Sketchy neighborhood, average pupusas. Don’t leave anything in your car, you will risk it being broken into.

These pupusas better be amazing because I feel like I’m risking my life to eat here. There is a pigeon in the corner shitting next to the drink cooler. Which also has a bag of trash just tied on the side of it. You should know a little Spanish before ordering. It will help but not much. The place otherwise appeared clean. They were pounding the masa right on the other side of the gated counter. Yes, it is a hole in the wall and they take your order behind an iron gate. Hopefully, I don’t die from whatever you die from when eating bird shit. UPDATE: The pupusas were f-ing awesome. Incredibly fresh is all I can say. They gave a bag(no literally a ziplock freezer bag) of salas and another bag of fresh slaw of some sort. The cream cheese was thick and fresh. All in all worth the bird-poo risk. p. s. it’s been two weeks and I’m still alive ;-)

Ive been to this place before, I can say I’ve gave them the benefit of the doubt but to be honest, you’d be better off going a little further and go to the La perla taco truck on the other side of bart. At least you would get better food and better service.

I am a firm believer in restaurants with people who only speak their native language being the best of its kind. THIS is that place! Comalapa is a restaurant with delicious pupusas and Salvadorean cuisine. Having been to El Salvador and tasted the culture on my tongue, this restaurant is the next best thing to being in Chalate. I would suggest brushing up on your Spanish if you do not speak the language. This is not to say that you cannot order if you do not speak Spanish, it would just be a bit easier. The food is inexpensive and delicious. My only draw back would be the service and décor which totally say straight outta El Salvador. All in all, the ladies behind the counter are great cooks(of both Mexican and Salvi foods) with pretty smiles and just want to see you fed and leave happy. Oblige them and come on in!

This place is a hole in the wall. the décor is crazy off. Mitch Mac chairs and tables old blue paint. But they have changed their wall paintings and added an iron Gate… Prices have gone up. 2.50 for a pupusa. Ierrrrreeeeeee. But the main thing is that the food is still good. I just won’t be getting as full as I’m used to getting. So if your reading this and wondering whether or not you should visit, I recommend that you go. Oh and by the way, the customer service is a mirror. If you treat them bad, they will throw you attitude. And I ain’t mad at that!

I love this little place so much! The pupusas are delicious, the tacos are amazing. You have to wait a little while(20 minutes tops) but besides that it is worth it. :)

I went to Comalapa with no expectations except for a 20 minute wait for pupusas. That was fine by me. I had time. The lady at the country and I didn’t quote understand each other, but I still. managed to get my much wanted chicken and cheese pupusa and two super tacos. I really only needed one taco, but that was part of my communication issues. A super taco includes rice, beans, meat, cabbage, sour cream, guacamole, and shredded cheese. It’s more like a mini burrito than anything I ended up eating about half the filling before attempting to pick it up. That was a wise move. The pupusa was crispy, hot, and delicious. The taco was seasoned well. They have a small selection of sodas and take cards($ 10 minimum). There is some seating, but this is strictly a no frills place, apart from cheerful blue walls. I will probably go back. Very convenient to BART.

Really loved the Puposas! The bean and cheese was my favorite! I want to go back for a burrito next time and possibly eat in I took it to go I bet it would have been even better if I ate there

Do not judge this place by the outside. The inside is clean and that’s all that matters. The pupusas are made to order and I must say they are some of the better pupusas I’ve had in a while. I had the bean and cheese pupusa as well as the pork and cheese and both were delicious. They’re ridiculously cheap too, $ 2 a pupusa. I would definitely order more pupusas should the craving arise.

The foods generally awesome, the service is friendly, and its dirt cheap. Longer hours would be nice, but that’s not enough to take a way a star from this gem.

Friendly service/fresh food. A hidden pupuseria gem. I recommend the bean and cheese pupusa or the cheese and zucchini.

I had to update this because i really love this place. I came in today to get a burrito and the guy outside was asking for food so i added a taco to my order. I was short $.61 and they let me slide. I keep finding reasons to love this place.

The pupusas here are delish! A touch heavy so don’t over do it. I’d go for the pupusa before the burritos as they felt greasier than most places. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not short for taste. Just be sure you’re prepped with an antacid.

Since I was in West Oakland and was looking to get some cheap food, I decided to come here. It had been a long time since I had an Salvadorian food. I ended up ordering 3 pupusas and a super quesadilla(they have Mexican too) since they didn’t have nachos for whatever reason. Ordered a lot of food because I only had a credit card on me and they have a $ 10 minimum on cards. This only means that I know have lunch for tomorrow. Winning. The food was pretty good. This isn’t the place to go to if you want something healthy. The super quesadilla was a bit greasy, but I think it may have been because I had ordered a pork one. I would recommend taking your food to go. The place is small and the dining area doesn’t seem entirely clean. The lady that also took my order and made my order was pretty nice.

Discovered this Pupuseria via Unilocal.Such a whole in the wall, but their pupusas were made fresh and were delicious. I ordered 2 pupusas: cheese and loroco, and cheese and zucchini– I haven’t had either flavor ever so it was a first. I really enjoyed the zucchini one. I knew what to expect with the loroco one but it really didn’t have much flavor. My sister got the chicken and cheese pupusas and really enjoyed them. Salsa was good. Curtido was okay– I’ve had better tasting curtido. Will most likely come back again.

100% Authentic Pupusas. If you want the real deal when it comes to Salvadorean pupusas, this place delivers. The establishment is as authentic as the food. A few plastic chairs and tables, two ladies behind a counter, and food wrapped in plastic bags is exactly what you would experience in El Salvador. STAYCLEAR of stuff like burritos, as they are most certainly not authentic. I grew up in Central America, so I definitely know a thing or two about pupusas. The quesillo cheese pupusa is superb. Definitely a contender for the best I have tried. The pork rind chicharron pupusas(which are usually my favorite) were a bit disappointing compared to stuff from back in CA, but definitely worth trying. I will have to try the loroco and frijoles ones some other day. Unlike other Central American restaurants I have tried in the US, the cooks in Comalapa are not afraid to be authentically greasy, Pupusas need to be greasy, simple as that. Just layer some pickled cabbage & sauce, and clumsily take a big bite. Remember: food that is not good for the heart is good for the soul. The place is small so you might be tempted to order take-out, but you better have a place to eat in mind. Trust me, it will get messy.

A little«hole in the wall» spot but don’t let looks fool you. Parking can be a bit confusing, but once you step into the place the smell of fresh handmade food will really grab your attention. I tried the Papusas. At $ 2 a piece I figured, what the hell. Turns out, it was a good decision. A bit cheesy but overall pretty damn delicious. Ballin’ on a budget… Oh yea.

5 table hole in the wall with open counter /window to kitchen area. Order at the counter and pay after getting your food. Be sure to specifiy if you’re planning to eat in. The lady didn’t ask and I got my food packed up to go. Both Salvadoran and Mexican sections in the menu, but when at a pupusaria stick to the Salvadoran side! I got two papusas($ 2 each. min order of 2) one Revuelta(pork, bean, cheese) and one Queso y Loroco(cheese & green unopened C. American flower bud( )) and a Salvadoran Tamale de Puerco(pork tamale $ 2.50). As mentioned earlier, I got my food bagged up. The curtido(cabbage slaw) and salsa were in zip-lock sandwich bags( ) and the the two papusas were fused together from oozing cheese from the loroco papusa( ). The papusas were tasty though I prefered the Revuelta over the Loroco one where the bud flavor didn’t really shine through. The curtido didn’t seem super fresh and didn’t have much kick and the salsa was pretty mild as well. The tamale was pretty big and very soggy. There was a nice chunk of tender pork and a wedge of potato along with a few peppers. The masa was the consistency of a thick corn pudding. Wasn’t a fan. If you’re dining in, this may not be the best time to try them for lunch. There’s a lot of construction going on 7th Street and it was pretty noisy inside.

The pupusas here are delicious. Freshly made by hand, ham and cheese is my favorite. The tacos are also huge… with al pastor I can usually make one taco into two. The burritos are good, though they use white rice in them which I found to be a little odd. Prices are fine, service is good. I would definitely come here mainly for the pupusas though the other items are delicious as well.
