What a great find! We were in the neighborhood for work and this place had great reviews on Unilocal,so we decided to try it. The minute I walked in, I loved it! Nice décor, great ambiance, free wi-fi, and great customer service. I was extra excited because they serve highwire coffee and the barista did a great job with my cappuccino. I also ordered a fried egg and tomato pressed sandwich with cheese. So simple and so good! Also, when I was waiting for my sandwich, the barista asked if I wanted to taste the chai since he had some extra from one he just made. Yes please! Can’t wait to come back here!

Happy to find this gem. Ambiance is inviting, plus they serve yummy highwire coffee and and their preparation is spot on. Case in point, I found myself there 2 days in a row because the drip coffee is excellent and I was craving it the next day. The coffee is full of flavor, strong and nuanced. Tried their tasty biscuit with mushroom gravy. I’ve been missing biscuits and gravy from my meat eating days and this version was super satisfying. Also, my wife really enjoyed her latte.

Needed a quick bite to eat on Sunday and found this gem. Order the breakfast sandwich and add bacon — so good. The wifi password is posted on the blackboard so would be a good spot for some work as well. Not overcrowded though either and friendly staff!

Can you fall in love with a coffee shop? I think so. I am not going to write some essay describing the bits and details of the UMBEYONCE or the HIPPEST drank to get… But I’ll give you a short prose on what you’ll expect when you come into Hive. You’ll expect a pure, down to earth sense of community. I grew up in the dimond/fruitvale and I am damn proud of it. There are outdoor seatings/monkey bars for kids, pups to play on in the summer. There are porch/picnic tables for bigger groups to hangout. There are small individual tables for the ambitious bloggers, artists, creative minds to embrace imagination. There are couches and toy trucks for small families to enjoy a cup of coffee in the most diverse district in Oakland in my opinion. Baristas seem like to love making coffee and this spot is their home, and they love to share it to the community. Coffee is great. Americano $ 2.75, takes CC. Their treats look great, but I haven’t tried any because they sell out quick. I’ll definitely be coming here more often to get work done, and to just absorb Oakland as much as I can. I love this spot. Unilocalers, if you would like to get work done on a weekend, hit me up! Hive is definitely the place to bee!

Service is a bit off. They forgot to make me my drink and didn’t even acknowledge that I was standing there after waiting for a while. The food is still good, but the special drinks don’t taste the same

Visiting Oakland for work. Needed coffee and decided to walk here. Walked past this place due to their sign being hard to spot but it was great to find it! Tried their mocha and breakfast sandwich. Needless to say I left happy.

I decided to visit this place on a Wednesday around 12:30 p.m. I found metered parking on the street that was $ 2/hour for a max of two hours. Most people hanging out here seemed to be working and/or studying on their laptops. It was also noticeably a kid-friendly café and had a play area set aside with lots of toys. I didn’t see any kids around today though. They serve espresso made with Highwire Coffee and baked goods from Starter Bakery. I ordered a 12oz mocha for here, which tasted very good and came with latte art. They also had a lunch menu available which I’m guessing is ideal for the people who want to hang out here and study all day. I would come back again if I was already in the area and looking for a solid cup of coffee. I’ll also keep an eye out to see where else Highwire Coffee is sold.

I am SO happy I found Hive! I just spent the morning studying there and had a fantastic time. Comfortable tables, great coffee, fun people watching. It was great. And the staff seemed very fun and friendly. It’s hard to find a comfortable place to study but I felt right at home here. I had the rainbow salad and added goat cheese and it was great! Good sized portion and plenty of cheese! But, I LOVED the dressing. Tart with a hint of sweetness with a peppery finish. Not sure what they used but I will definitely be back for this salad.

«Taste the biscuit, taste the goodness of the biscuit, Taste the honey sauce, taste the goodness of the biscuit with the honey sauce. Get that honey sauce on me…» You ever heard that song by Toasters n Moose?(Here’s the link: ) The minute I heard it, I knew this is how I felt about Hive’s biscuit with brown butter and honey. It’s so good I would travel to the ends of the earth for it(which it’s very fortunate this place is only a 10 minute drive away!). Not in the mood for brown butter and honey? GRAVY. And if you’re not in a biscuit mood, they have some great salads as well — I’m a pretty big fan of their side salad, actually. Dressing is magnificent. They also have a really good iced chai(the husband goes gaga over it). So, swing by in the afternoon, lets say 2. Hang out on the couch. Get a snack. Meet a buddy you’ve known since 3rd grade or flip through the latest Food and Wine mag. Afterwards you can go around the corner and pick up a Swiss Twinkie from La Farine and then grab some ingredients from Farmer Joe’s for dinner.

Much better than starbucks and peets, and yes, compared to those two, Hive has AMPLE seating… and complaints about people sitting and talking for hours? Uh, it’s a coffee shop, people sit and talk at coffee shops. You think you’re entitled to sit and study for hours while others can’t sit and talk for hours? Contrary to some of these complaints from people with a sense of entitlement, Hive is a nice coffee shop for anyone who wants to study/work or hang out, and they are kid friendly, they have a kids area. Great coffee and good food, don’t expect getting restaurant grade service, it’s a coffee shop, not a restaurant.

They brew Highwire Coffee, slightly acidic which is great for cappuccinos, lattes and those of you who want room for cream. The tuna melt, prepared on the panini grill, is the cheapest sandwich on the menu and I kinda think it’s price should be raised on general principal because it’s the best tuna melt I’ve had. Don’t forget the kid’s area where you don’t have to worry too much about staining the couch.

Love this place. Great staff, great coffee. Also their playlist is really good — I know it’s a weird thing to point out — but I swear these guys have got a hold of my Pandora account. Another weird thing to point out(now that we’re at it): the volume is perfectly set, not blasting people halfway out the door like many other coffee shops. It’s quiet enough that you can think, concentrate and work. The decoration of place the place isn’t overwhelming: some black and white posters of beekeepers would give the place some more character. Anyhow, it’s a great place to sit and get some emails written, or just relax on a Sunday afternoon. For the power hungry: They have a couple of outlets. Was here almost every day while I was staying Fruitvale. Loved it.

I was probably served one of the best chai tea lattés that I’ve had. Spiced, but not overly so. Sweet and yet not overwhelmingly so. I was in heaven. And the food was pretty spot on as well! Boyfriend ordered the caprese panini with side salad and it was HUGE. Whatever dressing they put on the side salad is like crack — I couldn’t get enough of it(and I’m normally not a salad fan). I ordered their breakfast sandwich and added ham. That lemon-dill mayo was delicious. It’s such a cute and chill café in the Dimond district. There’s even a little play-space set aside for kids if you have little ones that need entertainment while you caffeinate! Parking is a little difficult since it’s all street parking, but not too bad so long as you’re okay with parking on hills. Love this place, will definitely be back for brunch sometime again soon!

Buzz, buzz. I was driving around, okay in reality I was lost and didn’t have my GPS so I stopped by this place. From the outside I thought this place was a bakeshop, but I wasn’t that disappointed since they sold coffee which I love. Great tasting coffee. Wish they served more honey products besides the honey sticks at the counter. How about a Honeybun? Or Honey Bunches Of Oats? LOL

I have to say I LOVE the Hive. It’s one of my favorite places to bee! I started working near The Hive last May and I had actually been going to Peet’s and Starbucks(unknowingly to my dismay). My co-workers frequently visited The Hive so I decided to give it a shot and I’ve been hooked ever since. I buy coffee almost every single day, it’s my life line — which I’m sure a lot of people can relate to. The Hive has quality coffee and really wonderful people that work there. Since I’ve been going, I have gotten to know almost everyone there and that makes my experience so much more enjoyable. I even go there to do my homework(on lunch breaks, days off) which I never did before with any coffee shop. This place feels like home, partly due to the atmosphere and of course the lovely people who work there. I recommend everyone to The Hive!

This was a great little spot. My husband and I went by for a nice breakfast and morning coffee. We love this area and the Hive has a great atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was really good! It was our first time there so we tried the breakfast sandwich with their dill mayo, egg, and cheese, the spinach/cheese crossiant, a chai latte, and a cup of Highwire coffee. We don’t have children yet, but it was cute to see a little kids play area in there being utilized. Great vibe and we will definitely be back!
