Food: Overall, the food here is pretty good and at a fair price. Portion sizes are decent. –Vegetable samosa $ 3.49: It was a bit spicy, but yummy none the less. –Garlic naan $ 2.99 and cheese naan $ 4.49: They look like giant pizzas bigger than your hand! The garlic naan was delicious, but the cheese naan was a bit disappointing. The cheese naan is stuffed with a very thin layer of mozarella cheese and could not compare in flavor to the garlic naan. –Chicken vindaloo $ 9.99: The chicken was a bit dry, but the sauce helped. You can choose your spice level for all the dishes. –Chicken tikka masala $ 8.49: This was my favorite sauce to dip the naan in. The chicken in this dish was juicy and moist. –Fish tandoori $ 11.99: This was my favorite dish. The restaurant ran out of salmon and replaced with tilapia. The fish was tender and delicious and comes out in a hot sizzling plate. Bonus: the restaurant offers free hot chai tea to customers. Parking: The neighborhood is quite crowded because there are many restaurants and businesses around the area. It might take a while to find parking on a weekend, but we did not have trouble on a weekday. It is very spacious inside and the tables were well spaced apart. Service was good, especially because there were not too many people dining in the restaurant. This was on a Monday night around 6PM. After dinner, you can take a stroll around Lake Merritt, which is right around the corner.

I really enjoy this place, the food is good and they have very generous portions! I have never had a bad experience ordering from them.

I really wanted to like this place but… everything about it seems«not clean»…so when it was closed down by not passing the health department inspections that made perfect sense to me. They had tacky signs taped in the windows and on the walls, the furniture and carpet seemed dingy and sticky. The people at the desk were always cheerful and friendly, but I just kept thinking that since they are never all that busy, might they be able to take enough time off from being«cheerful» and just clean up a little? There were even empty boxes and cans kind of piled up near the front entrance right on Grand Avenue which doesn’t do anything for the neighborhood. I saw today that it was re-opened after months of closure… so hopefully it will be better now.

Chinese Indian food equals nasty! Under new management that’s for sure! Won’t be going back

So on the occasion of my 70th check-in here, they have finally reopened after months of being closed. Since they have just passed all their inspections I figure they’re the cleanest spot in the area right now! The food was fast and delicious as always with good-sized portions and reasonable prices. As I said in my original review, you won’t find classy 5-star dining here. But you will find good food prepared by friendly, nice people. I’m very glad to see my «old standby» is back again!

I would like to give it about 4 to 4 ½ stars reason being is that my curry that came in the lunch combo was slightly on the colder side. This restaurant has very accurate representation of mild food, which is hard to get right at other Indian or Pakistani restaurants. My friend and I went in when it was quiet on a Wednesday afternoon the owner or the server was very attentive. It was my first time coming to this restaurant and it won’t be my last. They’re very reasonably priced compared to other overpriced Indian and Pakistani restaurants, very good food, kebabs were excellent, lunch combo is priced reasonably, the Naan size is sufficient for two people depending on how hungry you are. I could be mistaken but I don’t think they charge for tea if you buy a meal there which is very nice of them. They could easily charge a dollar 50 like other restaurants do for chai. If I lived closer I would probably visit this restaurant few times a week. The other reviews you read maybe because of the experience they, had not necessarily because of the taste or the quality of the food. Go here andyou will not be disappointed.

Came here was hungry the service was fast which was nice. But then we got the food the naan was tasty but the rest was bland! The microwavable options from trader joes have more seasonings than what we had. Won’t be coming back here even if I’m hungry.

This place has had a closed sign on the door for over two months now. I guess that it’s out of business. The food wasn’t all that good in my opinion anyway. I hope that we get a new restaurant in the location soon.

I recently purchase food from House of curries it was chicken masala and Rice. I drove inside to Lake Merritt sat down on a bench to eat my lunch and poured the chicken masala over my rice and to my surprise was a sauteed roach! Immediately I was sick to my stomach after returning the food to the restaurant the employees were very rude and even suggested that I planted the roach into their food. They refuse to give me information in regards to the owner nor was my money refunded so I contacted The Alameda County Environmental Health Department three days later an inspection was done on the restaurant. The restaurant was immediately closed for health code violations! It was not my first time eating at that restaurant but it will definitely be my last and perhaps you may be able to experience their food once they bring the restaurant up to code!

The food was really good! Ordered lamb curry and garlic nam. Could not go wrong. The place has an awkward atmosphere, huge room with only a few tables scattered around, was pretty empty when we went in. Went the Friday before they closed for«construction’».

I highly recommend this restaurant! The staff is so friendly and the food is very tasty!!! The waiter was sure to ask about spice level, which I totally appreciated having had food that was spicy to the point of being inedible at other establishments. The garlic cheese naan is wonderful &HUGE!!! Don’t order more than one unless you plan on taking it home!!! An added bonus is the complimentary chai. They were thoughtful enough to let my son take some to go. Everything we ordered was great. We will certainly be back!

Awesome food. And the people here are super nice. Try the tea, it’s some sort of chai tea that’s heavenly. I had the chicken tandoori which was outrageous, my buddy had the lamb tikka masala which was also really good. The naan was super delicious. I’d certainly go back! I couldn’t believe how inexpensive the meal was — under $ 50 for four people!

Ghee, chopped onion, garlic, cumin, salt and pepper, ginger, cinnamon, tumeric, tomato sauce, cream, paprika, pinch of sugar, oil curry. That something like a Tika Masala recipe. I don’t know what you guys made but hope this helps. It asked for spicy. All I tasted was the yogurt. Blahhhh. The mango Lassi was pretty good though.

Always on point with the vegetarian dishes. Also the curries are gluten free, which is good because I’m gluten intolerant! Been here a thousand times and its never let me down. 5 stars over all

Maybe the worst indian food I’ve had. Ordered original naan and garlic naan, size are huge compare to other places. Only ate garlic one, lack of flavor… Lam chop, too much seasoning instead of marinating… Spinach paneer was not creamy at all … Waiters were nice, very thoughtful — brought bill over without asking. Self service Indian tea and rice were the best part of our dinner.

Great indian food coming from a guy who has only eaten Indian food less than a handful of times in his life. I’ll definitely be going back.

House of Curries came recommended by a friend, so I decided to give it a go. Interior is different, but spacious, and the service was good. Food was good, but I feel it just lacked a little bit of that oomph the spice delivers. Ordered the chicken vindaloo, garlic and original naan and samosas, in addition to the dishes my friends got. Everything was cooked perfectly and came out right away. You even get complimentary chai tea, which was a nice, though that too could’ve used a little more chai spice. Id come back to give it a second try.

Delivery took 2.5 hours, and when i called to ask about the order they alternated between lying about it’s status and getting an attitude about me calling in. do not get delivery from here.

Drove up from LA and stopped by Oakland to have dinner– we were craving curry. This place did not disappoint, the curry, garlic bread and eggplant was so delicious, and the complimentary masala chai was absolutely fantastic! Such kind people, serving us… we had a fantastic time! Their tea is the best !

I was stuck — I wanted to go somewhere else, but I had a time constraint, and I was on foot, so I stopped in here for lunch on Saturday. It was very quiet, amid a busy nice Saturday noon, which should have been a sign. The service was fast(well, there was virtually no one else there,) but sullen. The food… meh. I got«medium spicy» chicken tika masala, one of my favorite dishes, and it had no spice. None. It was bland. The rice was dry and uninteresting. The atmosphere was not very inviting, either. I’ll not bother going again.
