JJ Burger was a good basic burger, I will likely go back.

So good. Love the tuna burger(never had anything like it) and the sides are key. Everything is top notch though and the family that runs it is really nice.

Incredibly sweet people with amazingly tasty burgers. I only had $ 8 cash as I forgot my wallet and I asked if I could have any sandwich for that price. They said pick anything and even offered me soda. The burger was great. Love all the condiment options. Can’t wait to go back and try the poke!

Great thin fries that are perfection with a dash of Frank’s Red Hot. Get the JJ Burger, and don’t add condiments. I mistakenly added mayo and mustard to a true work of art. Don’t make the mistake I did. LEAVEITWELLENOUGHALONE and enjoy the burger as they made it! The meat is good, and it’s cooked perfectly. You can TASTE the burger which is very rare these days as everyone goes nuts with increasingly silly aioli creations that overpower the flavor of the burger. The service was short, crisp, and sweet. Greeted immediately and provided quick, no-nonsense, yet friendly, service. The world needs more places like this. Especially in Oakland. It’s a craft burger place without the«tap room» snobbery. They make good burgers and they know it. Why mess with something that so clearly works well? They haven’t and they shouldn’t mess with a good formula.

I have always had a soft spot for small family owned burger joints and jj burger is no exception! Walking inside gives you a somewhat retro but very simple vibe with black and white checkered floors and an open kitchen behind the cashier. Service was friendly although prices were a bit expensive given the ambience. But what the place lacks in appearance it makes up for in quality of food which I guess is where the price comes in and I definitely don’t mind that! We ordered the ahi tuna sandwich and the jj burger. Loved the fluffiness of the brioche bun and the thickness of the burger meat. The jj burger also comes with onion rings and sauteed mushrooms inside too, which definitely added to the burger. My girlfriend seemed to enjoy the ahi sandwich seeing as I didn’t even get q chance to try it! We also had an order of garlic fries which were cooked well but my preference is just naturally for thicker cut fries. Overall a delicious little joint and I would come back. This restaurant is a prime example of a place keeping their food simple but doing it well and I am a big fan of that!

Phenomenal service! Really sweet family is that owns jj’s. Fish sandwich and angus burgers are out of this world!!! Fries are skinny but I like them that way… Have not found a burger place in Oakland that I love til now

Food was alright but the service was shit. The punk ass kid who works the register told me to get fucked. All i did was ask a question about the burger combo. Wtf never going here again.

Regular fast food place. Pretty decent burgers considering the price. JJ Burger Combo($ 10.50) — Good flavor, big patty, well-made. Fish Sandwich Combo with Fried Onion Tangler($ 11.25) — Fish sandwich did not have any flavor at all! I was more than disappointed after having read everyone’s stellar reviews about the burgers in this place. The bright spots about this place, though, are the French fries and onion rings. The fries and onion rings are fried and are cut extremely thinly. So hard to just stop at one, you’ve gotta keep eating them all! Although I most likely won’t be returning for the burgers, I just might return here to fix future onion ring cravings. JJ Burger cooks them just the way I like them!

This is the single best burger $ 10 will get you in the Bay. What a freaking gem this place is. The owners are so polite and welcoming, offering a stellar menu with classic, vegetarian, and gourmet options. I mean, you can get a poke burger here. How awesome is that? The brioche bun they use is the best burger bun maybe ever. It’s flaky and fresh and perfect — like a pastry. It’s like they picked it up straight from Arizmendi’s or something. So so good. It would be maybe the best thing about the burger, except the meat they use is really good. You can tell when a place uses quality angus hamburger meat and JJ’s totally does. The JJ combo includes fried onions, mushrooms, and your choice of cheese on your burger. Their fries are shoestring fries, which I’m not particularly fond of, so I’ll be getting a salad instead(your other choice) next time. You are king among burgers, JJ.

Friendly service. Food was good, not great. I’d go back if I want a burger and I’m feeling lazy about traveling too far.

First time, so delicious. Polite owners, clean front and kitchen, and simply delicious sandwiches. Flame cooked burgers so not greasy(my favorite type of burger). My man has a heart condition, and they have lots of healthy non red meat options. Best shoe string fries hands down. New favorite burger spot around the lake. 10⁄10 keep up the good work!

I don’t know what the fuss is all about! The burger is average and even a little below average. The patty needs a lot more seasoning and salt! Their shoe string garlic fries are deadly though. Other than that, it’s not mind-blowing or even good. It’s Meh! we should’ve known as it was empty at 1:00 pm on a sunny beautiful Saturday…

Sparkys, Habit, True, Barneys, Ahns, Flipside, Kroennen etc. Lots of good burger places this side of the bay, none to compare to Super Duper(on the other side) though imho… until now. Well until late last year anyway. JJ Burger is hidden amongst all the coming and going of store fronts on Grand Ave. Took us awhile to finally find it and are we glad we did! Great burgers, simple menu and contrary to other reviews, we love the skinny fries! Maybe because we were raised on Shoestring potatoes, remember those? Wifey had the Angus burger, I had the ahi poke sandwich. Angus burger cooked to perfection, poke sandwich came with a side of aioli(only bad, was there should have been more!). Best part of the whole experience, it’s in our hood! We’ll still hop on BART to get our Super Duper fix, but it’s great to know we have JJ Burger to fall back on!

Amazing burgers! The JJ burger was delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, and the bun crispy and wonderful. On a hunch, I also ordered the Ahi Tuna burger. I was not expecting much, but this too was just right in flavor and texture. The tuna and the seaweed salad, plus the wasabi sauce and the cripy brioche bun made this a fantastic burger. :)

Love this place! Excellent burgers, tasty fries, good salad, reasonable prices, and friendly service! Although Zuni Café in SF has our favorite burgers for $ 15+, JJ is a great alternative.

Great sandwiches: chicken and the ahi. The wasabi sauce was really delicious to go with the ahi. The shoestring fries were great. Wished they were bigger size but all good. Will come back!

Whatafind!!! Juicy, delicious 6 oz Angus beefburgers cooked to perfection, served on a brioche bun, with your choice of cheese. The combo also includes the best shoestring potato fries this side of Christopher’s Burgers on College Ave… they’re just a smidgen below those miraculous Chrsitopher’s taters. A bit hard-to-find, this lil’ gem is located two full blocks up from the Grand Theaters, between a laundromat and a sushi restaurant in a spot formerly occupied by a late, great steakhouse. Street parking isn’t quite as tough this far up on Grand … it’s definitely worth seeking out for a great burger and fries, and to support the very friendly people working here.

Fresh stuff new ideas and overall nice. The burgers come open faced with nothing on then and you have to walk over to the condiments. Once it’s all dressed how I like it, it was great! Awesome bun and tasty patty. I’ll be back, not to spendy and well worth it!

Love JJ’s! The lady who works here is suuuuper sweet; Even when I was one of those customers who ordered hella shit just as they were closing(my mistake) she still served my boyfriend and I with a smile. The poke sandwhich is BOMB. The fish is fresh and I absolutely love their wasabi sauce. It opens up the nostrils a bit but not that spicy(to me), I always ask for extra :3 I also love that they put seaweed salad on it. Burgers are pretty juicy for well done. Their jalapeño burger(with jalapeño’s actually in the patty) is really good but just a special so it may not always be available. Another thing I love is that they serve all their sandwhiches on melt in your mouth brioche! I wish more places offered brioche buns, it makes everything taste so much better. The only thing I don’t care much for is the fact that their fries are skinny. The flavor on the garlic fries were there, just don’t care much for skinnny fries. I personally preffered the sweet potatoe fries(fries also thin), they go really well with sriracha/mayo mix. They have mayo, sriracha, dijon, pickles and lemons along with traditional ketchup and yellow mustard set up on the counter to help you furthur customize your personal meal! They offer organic fried egg for a dollar extra. I feel the prices are fair for quality. Decent shakes, nothing special but they are super thick so you get your money’s worth. I rounded up for the service. This place is awesome though if you’re in the grand lake area and craving a burger… or you’re a poke fan and looking for something a little different!

Another gem of Lakeshore! I came here with my friend on a quiet Sunday night and took the order to go. We got the combo on the JJ Burger. SERVICE: This place has impeccable service even though it isn’t a sit down/waiter restaurant. I believe the owners, wife and husband duo, run the establishment well and keep it clean. The woman cleaned the tables as we waited to ensure cleanliness of all the tables. She also was very polite when we ordered, which was very pleasant. FOOD: I will say the food is 3.5 stars, but service is what pushed me to a 4 star rating. Maybe I should try the poke next time as I’ve read previously on Unilocal, but I liked the burger but didn’t love it. I will say that it is different from Trueburger, but is it better? Hard to say. The brioche bread bun adds an interesting touch of sweetness, and the angus beef is very juicy. I also did like the fried mushroom bits too, which added a good dimension to the burger. They don’t dress the burger, you do it, so you can control the amount of condiments, which is always appreciated. The fries though were a bit of a let down. I wish they were a bit more substantial, but that should not detract from the quality of the burger. I would come back and recommend others to give this mom and pop burger joint a try!
