Great shoes, excellent customer service, and good prices. My wife found two pairs of shoes for work, and I got some sweet sandals. Parking was free across the street. Will definitely return for more shoes. Good selection of Birkenstocks and other well-​made shoes.
Gus, the owner, was super helpful and patient, with good solid advice on shoes.

Love this Oakland shop! I needed some Birkenstocks and the owner helped me choose the perfect pair. I was impressed by the large selection of styles, sizes and colors. The shop is small, but don’t let that fool you! There are a lot of options here. They sell other brands as well, but I was specifically looking for Birkenstocks. Definitely a gem of a shop in the town, I’m glad they are here and will be back if I need anything else! A much better experience than a large messy, disorganized shoe chain store. Excellent experience. I was in and out in 15 minutes with my new fancy shoes!

I just heard about this spot which has been open for 18 years in an out-​of-​the-​way location. What a find! A steady stream of happy and loyal customers and now I join that group. Good shoes cost more but last many times longer… but ask if Gus is having a sale. You will save a lot.

Absolutely fantastic!
Just got some Birkenstocks two hours ago and they walked me through everything. They were super attentive and patient with my lack of any knowledge about Birkenstocks. Additionally they were quite friendly, but not pushy.
Very highly recommended if you are buying shoes in the East Bay.

I really enjoyed coming here! I have the worst feet ever, very small and wide — he measured me at a women’s size 4.5E, and he was able to find some shoes that were kind of cute. I’m not super enthused because the selection for me was extremely limited, but as the owner mentioned, most companies don’t make shoes in my size or really any wide sizes at all. I did walk away with a pair that are relatively comfortable and cute, but most importantly they’re amazing quality that will last me a long time.

will get here soon to get some great rockford shoes. many fab brands in house.
finally dropped into Shoe Spot to get some new shoes. store has less seating cuz they have more inventory.
missed the ’14 Sept. sale and the Lunar ’15 one, the latter cuz it’s not considered good luck to buy shoes during the Lunar New Year celebration.
Mr. Clean, as i characterize the proprietor, was more than willing to sell me rockports at the sale price (80) since i remember the dates.
i wish i could give him more biz but the shoes don’t wear out since Mr. Clean told me they would last longer if i rotated the shoes. True, none has (totally) worn out after years of use. (feels funny wearing the shoes though, heels lopsided).

I love this little shoe store. The owner Gus is super nice and very helpful (and not pushy) when you’re trying to pick out and try on shoes. All the shoes he carries are good for your feet, which is good for me because at 37 I have developed premature old lady feet and need orthopedics. Lots of his styles are so good looking that you’d never know the difference.

I came in looking for a pair of Birkenstocks for my small feet. Too small for 35, so Gus ordered me a pair of size 34 to try. He waited for me to come in and try them on, which took me a few days longer than I expected, but he was patient, and didn’t keep calling me or anything.
Turns out I am in between 34 and 35, which Birkenstock doesn’t make. Ugh.
But the service here was incredible. Great 1:1 attention that you will not get anywhere else!

After ordering some Birkenstocks from Amazon in the wrong size, I went to the Shoe Spot to get sized and buy a replacement pair. When I got there I was surprised that they not only had the style I wanted (Arizona Habana Oiled) but that they were also the same price as Amazon.
After finding the right size, I jokingly asked the owner Gus if he’d be interested in making a trade for the ill-​fitting pair in my car. To my surprise he was more than willing to help me out even though it meant losing a sale! I was completely blown away.
My girlfriend ended up buying a pair of sandals so that we didn’t leave without supporting his business some how, and at Amazon prices there was no reason not to.
I’m moving away from the Bay Area soon but whenever I come back to Oakland I plan to stop over and buy a pair of shoes from Gus.

My experience was similar to the last reviewer – got into a really good conversation with the owner about the shoe business, as well as a little history about Oakland’s downtown business district.
Owner is well informed about work boots (that’s what I came for) and very helpful. He gave me the good olé’ fashioned shoe horn treatment with each pair I tried on; haven’t seen one of those things in years! He’s also very fair – a solid, good guy with a good business for the community.
I’ll be getting my next pair of boots here, for sure!

Went in looking for dress boots, didn’t see what I was looking for, but got into such a good conversation with the owner that I ended up buying some work boots instead!
Guy was super nice and helpful, the real-​deal shoe store experience, even helped me out with a shoe horn when I was trying stuff on. Picked up some Georgia Boot workboots and mink oil to keep them waterproofed. Will be back again.

The pair of work shoes I bought more than three years ago lasted more than three years after I wore them every day for three years. I did my double shift waitress job, and did one burning man, and hundreds of events as a vendor. They are totally beat.
Today I bought another pair. The same size, same brand, same style. The same pair. Just new.

This time since you offered me such great prices on my shoes, I picked up an additional nice black Naturalizer which I am wearing right now. They are comfortable but they look very dressy too.
Again, affordable and a reliable buy.
