St Leo’s School

I have graduated here in 2015, And there is nothing I regret, and anywhere else I would go, for education to 8^th Grade.
The teachers here are very skilled and helpful, and they want to help students thrive, and be successful throughout their high school years, college years and life. The principal, Sonya Simril, devotes her time and effort to the education of these kids. She sees them as her own, she is very loving, and works hard for the kids at her school
My intention was to put 4 ½ stars, but I am unable to do so. Prices are high here. Monthly Payment is not bad, costing $ 795/​mo. But they often (very often) ask you for extra money and participation in events and other costly activities. Sometimes mandatory. So prices could be better.
This is a great educational facility in which employees are determined to make these kids prepare for there future years. Great school

My son just started his fourth year at St. Leo’s. I am very satisfied with the education he is receiving at this school. The classes are small this year and that has it’s benefits. Academically, he is more advanced than most 7 year olds. His math, reading and writing proficiency amazes me. He is even been introduced to algebra and he is only in the second grade. He loves his school and that says a lot since most kids hate school. The principal, teachers, staff, parents and students is what makes St. Leo’s a special place. Invest in your child’s future and you can’t go wrong as a parent.

I attended this school as a student from fifth through eighth grades, so I have a firsthand view on this school from a student’s perspective. I’m here to tell you that I do not feel as if I received the best education at this school, at least in the «non-​core» areas, which if you ask me are just as important as the core subjects (Math, Reading, Science, etc.)
I’ll start with the so-​called music/​drama program at this school. It may have changed for the better by now, but back when I was a student, it was not as comprehensive as it’s claimed to be. Music was and I believe still is only taught once a week for an hour when the music teacher comes to classrooms, and often when she did, she tended to go off into conversations completely unrelated to music or drama. As a result, hardly anything related to music ever actually happened. One example of this is that we were required to purchase Shakespearean plays every year, however I only remember reading said plays on one, two, or maybe three occasions. Additionally, like with most elementary schools, we were required to learn to play a recorder, however this was rarely done as well.
Visual Art was, at least in my time there, almost nonexistent for the last two years of my time as a student. There was no specified Visual Art teacher, and looking at their website right now, it still looks like they’re without one. I think that’s enough said right there.
I’m not much of an athlete, but even I can say that the sports are limited at this school, the only sports offered are Basketball and Track/​Field. If you ask me, I wouldn’t consider this a fully well-​rounded sports program.
Now I’m about to venture into a topic that some could consider controversial: Sex Education. At this school, it’s not taught until eighth grade, and even then it doesn’t really seem to educate students about sex, it more seems to shy towards the, «IT’S BAD, DON’T DO IT!» side, something which could actually have a negative effect on students in the long run. The program that they have in an in-​comprehensive and outdated program that does not meet today’s requirements. Introducing Sex Ed in 8^th grade is already far too late.
For the well-​being of your children, I would highly recommend that you don’t send them to this school.
