Helen was gentle, careful and precisely artistic with her work. I’m extremely picky about my eyebrow shape and have seen a lot of different people over the years.
For the last 8 years, I’ve been seeing the same person for my eyebrows in SF. I recently moved to Montclair and had been out of town for the last few weeks. Instead of making the trek to SF (just for my eyebrows), I decided to Unilocal someone local to Montclair and nearby. I was shocked to find someone who did eyebrow threading walking distance from my home and had all 5 star reviews. I gave her a call immediately and she scheduled me the same day.
Helen was careful and made the experience delightful. Since it was my first time visiting her, I think she noticed I was a little nervous. She drew the shape and outline first via powder pen before plucking away. I felt much more at ease that she was thoughtful to make sure it would turn out the way I want them.
Helen was fantastic and her prices are reasonable, especially given the time and detail she puts in to make her work looking the best. I will definitely be visiting Helen again soon.

I am SO glad I found Helen when I moved to Montclair. Not only is she a threading genius, but she is also one of the most kind people I’ve met since moving here. I have been threading my eyebrows for 18 years now. and back in Jakarta, after getting my eyebrows done by close to a dozen people, there was only one person who I felt did a consistently good job. She’s still on my WhatsApp and I STILL see her every single time I go home.
Well. when I moved to the East Bay, I wasn’t sure if I was going to find someone I really trusted to do my eyebrows. See, in the past 3 years or so upon becoming a Mom, I’ve stopped going as regularly. This only makes it harder for whomever I thread with to do a consistent job at styling my eyebrows because every visit means another reshaping as opposed to a touch-​up/​cleaning.
Eyebrows aren’t all alike. Some like it thin, others thick. Some like a distinct arch, while others like a barely noticeable arch. And regardless of your personal preference, your natural eyebrows will determine if its even realistic.
Well, I’ve visited Helen a few times over the past 2 years (look up Montclair Threading Lounge for her previous location) and she has ALWAYS done a great job. My eyebrows aren’t naturally symmetrical and my left eyebrow even has a bald spot. Yet Helen always does a good job making both appear identical. She usually uses a chalk-​like pen to draw the final shape over your eyebrows to check if it meets your personal style preference and ensure accuracy, which I appreciate. While my previous threadists have taken 5 – 10 minutes to get the job done, with Helen it usually takes 20 – 30 minutes… and it SHOWS.
Somehow, she manages to turn something that’s akin to Medieval torture into a short visit to the spa. She’s sweet, gentle, thoughtful, and sensitive to your twitches and tears (literally, because if you’ve never tried it before, it is ALWAYS some degree of painful), and she gives your a very short but sweet rub of a cooling and gentle lotion at the end of it all.

I recently went to see Helen for the first time for eyebrow threading. She is located inside the Phoenix Rising salon in Montclair Village. She was wonderful — very patient, thorough, and did a fantastic job on my brows. I think it was the best they had ever looked. She is gentle and has a really wonderful manner with clients. I would highly recommend her, you will be very glad you went to her!

I moved from San Francisco to Montclair two years ago — and I was so happy to find Helen to do my threading — actually I was somewhat Shocked to find this wonderful woman in Montclair, as I didn’t yet know the many wonderful people and businesses here at that time.
So I have been seeing Helen about once a month for threading for two years, and she is the best I have worked with, hands down! Threading is far superior to waxing, especially for women as we get older — it’s just more gentle on the skin.
Helen is lovely, patient, sweet, and very skillful. I feel so lucky to have found her! One other nice thing about Helen is that she uses text messaging to book appointments — easy. But she also takes phone calls too.
Helen is now located at the salon called Phoenix Rising. .. a full service salon in Montclair Village located on Moraga at the Madeau intersection. Parking on the street.
