Fresh local everything. Don’t be in a hurry cause it is all cooked to order. Asian flair to fresh fish. Nope… Not much décor, but are you really that shallow?

Rocky Cola Seafood American, Seafood 2065 Nw 4th Ave, Ocala, FL34475 Totally blown away by the food. We had the fish and chips and the garlicky shrimp. The fish and chips was the best I have ever had, the fish was flaky, not mushy on the inside and the coating was very crispy but not at all greasy. The shrimp was also excellent and plentiful, served over rice with a side of chopped cucumber and pineapple salsa. All food is fresh, nothing from frozen. All vegetables and fruits are grown by the owner, completely organic. All seafood,(clam, shrimp, oyster, scallop, crab, fish) is caught fresh by the owners. All the condiments and dressings are homemade, except ketchup. All food is prepared to order so if it is busy expect to wait for your meal to be prepared, but the quality of the food and the friendly service are worth it all. If you want fresh seafood, and super fresh vegetables this is definitely the place for that. Very casual, not fancy, just friendly and good.

This place is a great place to eat seafood at. My daughter and I went for lunch & Rocky made our meals and served them too. We had blue crab chowder, scallops, & blue crabs. She came over to the table and spoke to us several times & we exchanged stories about families. She told us how she grows the vegetables in back of the restaurant in her garden & how they go out fishing on their boat on the weekends to have fresh seafood for the week. The food was beyond good, probably the best we have had being from the Midwest & not having access to all of the seafood there. She had a special named after her & when my daughter asked her about it, she said that it was shark, definitely not something that we had tried before. You will not be disappointed in your experience here, and don’t let the parking lot not being full fool you as this hole in the wall is a hole in 1 for sure!

Came here at the suggestion of another Unilocaler and man is this a local jewel! The moment you drive into Rocky’s Seafood you’ll possibly be wondering whether or not the restaurant is still open. When I arrived midday there was only one other car in the sizable driveway and I was the only customer in the restaurant that seats at least 50. Don’t be fooled though the food here is fantastic and the fact that you get it all to yourself is a God send. Normally I’m turned off by restaurants with little traffic because such places inevitably cut corners and send out food that’s been lying around rather than making things fresh to order. Not here! Everything is made to order and is made with the freshest ingredients, most of which Rocky grows or catches herself. That’s right folks Rocky is a women, but although she’s barely 5 feet tall and coming up on 73 years of age she is unbelievably spry and energetic. The moment you enter she treats you as family and attends to you very closely. As I was having my meal Rocky sat right across to me and she weaved unbelievable tales that kept me entertained and laughing. A good meal with a nice conversation, what more could I ask for? The menu is enormous. There is fried fish, steamed seafood, po boys, and huge entrees if you’re up for it. The New England clam chowder was some of the best I’ve had. It was chunky and had large chucks of fresh clam and wasn’t can-tasting like many of the other chowders I’ve had. The chicken and shrimp jambalaya has quite a bit of heat and is more tomato based then Cajun, however it’s fairly large, very fresh and could easily be shared between two people. All in all if you enjoy freshness, seafood, and the wisdom of a humorous petite Asian grandma who has seen the world, you have to stop by here!

It’s fact that they serve the freshest seafood around and IMO also the best! The name of the restaurant derives from the owners names and of course that they serve seafood. What it doesn’t say is that the meals are prepared with an Asian flair, the fish is actually caught by the owners in the Gulf weekly, all the fruit & veggies are grown on their property and the Asian spices used, that cannot be purchased in this country, are also grown at their home. Add all of that to the fact that Rocky has been cooking for over 20 years and you have yourself a true winner. When I eat here I feel as if I’m having a meal in Rocky’s home. She greets you, cooks your meal and then serves you on plates that look like they’re from her house. She gabs you up and even welcomes your opinion of her food. Rocky Cola’s is one of a kind and simply amazing! Make sure you take home a jar of their home made kimchi, mango chips or one of their other products.

Wanted something off the path for lunch with dad. He wasn’t real sure what I had brought him to when we pulled in. He had garlic shrimp and garlic crab. He said it was wonderful. I had bay scallops. Great food. Will tell you, this unassuming place can easily be missed, but shouldn’t be. If you don’t try this place you are missing out. Rocky is such a wonderful person. She payed a lot of attention to us and was great to talk to. She closes up Saturday night and heads to the gulf to catch shrimp. I dare you to find fresher shrimp. What a great find here in Ocala, the land of chain restaurants!

Found this place on Unilocal.Got good reviews. The directions from Unilocal put you in front of Ipanema on pine so don’t bother using those directions. The actual address is correct but when you click on directions there must be a glitch so it takes you to South pine instead of North pine avenue. Took both boys with me one had the fried shrimp platter, the other had fried calamari po-boy. I had a fried fish po-boy. Tasted all. Shrimp was excellent, calamari awesome not rubbery like most restaurants serve. Mine was okay should have done the shrimp. Might try the crabs next time. Cost is not cheap. They go out each weekend and catch their fish and they grow their own vegetables for sides. Pretty awesome.

One of the oddest establishments I’ve ever been to! But the seafood tasted very fresh. Went on a Tuesday night at 7:30 pm and there were NO cars in the parking lot. We were the only ones in the restaurant for the next 90 minutes. The New England Clam chowder was full of clams and was very well made. Boiled shrimp were excellent. Seafood platter was a Mountain of fried seafood — fish, scallops, shrimp, calamari. Just a tad greasy but still very good. Great homemade cole slaw, tartar sauce, etc…(Just about everything is homemade) Prices are appropriate for the quality of seafood. Atmosphere is bizarre. Absolutely no sound or music during our meal. Not fancy décor. The owner is Chinese. She said she and her husband go out on fishing boat on the Atlantic every Saturday night, and the restaurant is closed Sunday. She also grows her own organic vegetables, raises chickens and ducks, etc… many of the menu items are locally sourced. Everything cooked to order. Recommended for its fresh seafood and a unique dining experience way outside the chains.

All I can say is never judge a book by its cover. I have a food blog and I just ran across the holy grail of locally owned restaurants. The owner, Rocky, grows her own organic produce, raises her own chickens, grows her own herbs, etc. for the past 20 years she hasn’t gone to the market for those type of ingredients. And get this, after she and Cola close up on Saturday, they go overnight fishing to catch all their seafood on Sunday then back at the restaurant again on Monday. But I bet you want to know about the food? It was a slight longer wait after we ordered but in the end it was so worth it. The fish and chips platter was shared by my kidlets and they even let us have some. So good. Crispy breading and gorgeous flaky cod. Fresh fries piping hot. I ordered the«world famous» Garlic Shrimp. So fresh. No funky shrimp taste at all. And if I could please have a jar of that sauce?! So good. Just a little heat but very tolerable. My hubby ordered the Blue Crab Cake with a side of the famous fried rice and a freshly prepared salad that was delicious with a light dressing and diced oranges and sliced cucumbers. The crab is very interesting and has a unique flavor You need to eat here. Seriously don’t let looks fool you. If you get a chance to talk to Rocky you will be so impressed with this place. Highly recommend if you can’t tell.

Surprisingly good food, cooked fresh and to order, for such a casual environment. Not«interesting– casual», just cafeteria casual… But clean, friendly and delicious food!

Excellent food– the best seafood in the area without a doubt! The blue crab cake is simply amazing! I’ve also tried the pork with mushrooms and onions and it was outstanding! The quality of the ingredients and taste will have me coming back for more!

Rocky colas, walking in I noticed that it was very plain inside not much of a place to look at we were the only ones in there. Their menu offered many seafood items. I selected fish and chips my wife selected shrimp and chips. My fish look like eggrolls when it came out it tasted alright but nothing to write home about. My wife enjoyed her shrimp and fries along with some coleslaw that she said was quite good the waitress said they make everything there fresh not frozen fresh from the garden. To be honest I have had better fish and chips or should I say I enjoyed thembetter. The restaurant can use a little décor a few pictures on the wall something to take away from the one fish they have on each wall it reminded me of a low end Chinese restaurant. My wife did enjoy the fish that was left on my plate and I was more than glad to letter have it and we took it home in a box for later I’d only give 2 ½ stars. My wife enjoyed it and was more pleased then I. I would give it one thumbs-up from my wife and one thumb sideways from me. Rocky Cola.

As the other reviewers pointed out, dont be dissuaded by the appearance. I came at 7:30pm on a Monday night. I was the only person. The food was awesome and so was the service. Their vegetables are organic grown in their own garden. The tarter sauce was also home made. Give this place a try and you wont be disappointed. Yes, the prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for. The seafood platter was full of cod, shrimp, scallops and calamari. Not built up with 75% fries like some places.

Rocky Cola has the best seafood I have eaten in Marion County. I had the Blackened Tilapia with green beans. Absolutely fresh and delicious. The lady of the house is incredibly friendly and paid so much attention to my daughter. Unfortunately, the place was empty. The location is terrible, and the building, while tidy, is old and unfortunate inside. The price is consistent with the quality of food, but not consistent with the neighborhood, which has nothing but biker bars and fast food, or the atmosphere of the restaurant which looks more like somewhere you would get a cheap fish and chips than a $ 20+ garlic crab entrée. I will definitely return to Rocky Cola. The food is fantastic.

We have been there for dinner 3 times in the past month. The décor is very plain, but clean. The prices are a bit high, but you pay for quality, wild caught seafood. We had the same waitress who is very friendly. The clam chowder is the best I’ve ever had and we are Northerners who spend the winter in Ocala. We are seafood eaters, so we appreciate the menu selection. The sea scallops are HUGE. We tried the shrimp –steamed; with garlic sauce; and fried. All were excellent. The blue crab meat cakes had some pieces of shell in them. The salad was extremely fresh. We will continue to go there as it has the freshest seafood of any restaurant in the Ocala area.
