My family and I went for a short getaway, just overnight. When we first got there, we were having a great time. A golf cart from the hotel came to the ferry and took our luggage(a large cooler and a large duffel bag) to the hotel so we didn’t have to carry it. That was great since we have 2 small children. We were early to check in but they held our luggage and took our number to call us when our room was ready. That was awesome. We were chilling on the beach when we got our call. So we were off to a good start. Then we got to the room and despite the $ 300/night price tag, the room was not very clean and pretty stuffy and tiny. Still, no big deal. You come to Fire Island for the beach, not the room. We had an awesome time in the pool. The ocean water was a little rough for our little ones so they much preferred the pool. We noted the opening time of the pool, which was 8 am, and said we would come back when it opened in the morning to get some time there before we left, trying to beat the tween crowd that was dominating the pool. Well, next morning, we headed down at 9, pool was closed. We asked when it would be open and they said 5 – 40 minutes. Ok, that’s a pretty big range, but we went to the beach. We came back at 10:30, still no pool. There were others waiting at this point. They said it would be open at 11, three hours past the posted opening time. They claimed the manager needed to come and check the water and wasn’t there yet. We waited patiently, kids growing hungry. 11 am came, still not open. Kids are getting restless now. People are jumping the fence into the pool area. We asked for an extension to 12 on check-out so we could get some pool time. They said they could give us until 11:30 only. We got our stuff and checked out then waited some more for the pool. The nonchalance of the staff as the waiting crowd grew was frustrating and insulting. We waited until 12 then they told us it would open at 1. Now 4 hours past the time it’s supposed to open, I approached the front desk manager and told her we were having a wonderful time but this pool situation was putting us off from returning. While typing on her computer, not looking at me, she says, «Uh huh. I’m upset too.» I turn, tell my husband to get our stuff and get out of there. Their lack of preparation and total nonchalance put a damper on my daughter’s birthday. She really had her heart set on getting in the pool and I mean for $ 300/night with a grimy room, the least they could do was open the damn pool.

Ugh, where should I start. Let me start with a positive. The staff seemed nice and the location was good. About 50 steps from the beach. The room itself? Yuck. It needed updating and a good cleaning. A glass table where I guess you could eat if you wanted to take the chance looked like it was wiped down with a dirty rag. Hello did you ever hear of glass cleaner and a paper towel? And the kitchenette had linoleum peeling up and also various rust stains on the appliances as well as no garbage. We made our own by hanging a plastic bag off the drawer handle. Second, the windows had no screens on them. It happened to be a nice night and I would have like to have kept them open but due to safety and bug reasons, we could not do this. Third, the toilet and shower had rust stains in them. We were only there one night but took only one shower because we would rather be unshowered then go into that stall again. Even my 7 year old said«Ewww what ‘s in the toilet?» Finally,(just because I don’t want to relive anymore) the«mattresses» were very poor quality and squeaked everytime you moved. The pillows were cheap and squishy(should have brought our own) and when the pull out bed was pulled out you had to walk over it to get to the bathroom. Look I know it’s Fire Island and not a five star resort but have some pride in your establishment and fix what needs to be fixed and do a thorough cleaning after each guest leaves and more arrive. I feel that this«room» which was called the«apartment» is for staff to use on a whim as it is connected to the lobby. We booked last minute so I guess that’s what we get! Never again.

Bare minimum is all that you will get with this place. My friend and I stayed 3 nights and we were surprised by what we found. The pictures on the website are fabulous but the rooms are not. Our room was so tiny, it was suppose to sleep 3 and we were so glad that our other friend didn’t come too. There is no way 3 grown women could have been comfortable. The room had horribly lumpy beds, cheap pillows, and no hair dryer or tissues or even a second bath bar for all the towels if there were 3 of us. The shower was very small and the air conditioner was a noisy old unit. The carpet in the room was old and worn as well. Despite all of this we are great friends and made the most of it. We ate all of our food off site as the food was bad too in fact we didn’t use the $ 50.00 dinner voucher that they gave us. The Scooner and Flynn’s offered better quality drinks and food albeit at a hefty price. Overall, they do have a pool, bar and short walk to the beach and nearby restaurants so if you are only interested in having a place to sleep then this is the place for you. The common area bathrooms near the bar were vile so we had to go back to our room every time we needed to use the facilities. Lastly, the proprietor was present but not warm and friendly however the staff were all amenable.

Great location. Clean rooms with just the basics but easy access to pool, restaurant and beach. Staff is very friendly. Would definitely come back again.

Location Location Location! If you’re looking for 3 minute commute to gorgeous beach this is for you! The hotel is very basic BUT it has a great pool and on-site eatery and bar. Fire Island is not about resorts — it’s about low-key enjoyment, the rooms here were clean and basic, all you want or need on Fire Island and the staff are just about the nicest people you could meet. The hotel also offers beach chairs, umbrella rentals and they will meet your ferry and return you to ferry at end of trip. If you are looking for luxury like The Ritz then Fire Island shouldn’t be your destination.(All in all, it’s little over an hour from mid-town Manhattan)

The location can’t be beat, and the fact that there’s the pool, a bar next to the pool and its steps from the Ocean really make this place what it is. Plus the staff is super nice and helpful and full of great information if you’re not familiar with fire island.

You gotta understand there just aren’t very many hotels on Fire Island to choose from. This one has a pool and a very short walk to the ocean. Prices are steep compared to the accommodations. We were in a «suite» with two full baths and three queens. There were seven of us and it was comfortable to sleep in but that is all we used it for because if you are on Fire Island you are there for the environment. This is definitely a «no frills» location. But yes I am a fan. The real way to go on Fire Island is to rent a house but we only stayed a couple nights and you really have to rent a house at least for a week out there.
