The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville

I can’t get enough of this place! I’ve seen the Christmas show 4 or 5 times and I love it every time! I also finally made it to some non-​Christmas shows and they are very funny as well! I look forward to seeing The 39 Steps this month as soon as I can get there! This is a super fun thing to do and it’s very affordable!

Disclaimer: this place is crowded. After this, I can’t only say: you can’t miss it! It is really fun, actors are amazing and you will have a great time. Just saw The 39 Steps, but the best part comes at the end. Enjoy!

I have been to several shows, I recently took my daughter for her birthday along with some other family members. We had a great time, the actors were great, and I really like the vaudeville… too funny. We plan on getting the season subscriber package.

Great fun and tons of laughs for the whole family! My son (12 years old) laughed so hard his stomach hurt afterwards. This is a «must do» in Pismo Beach!!! The seats in the back are the best as the tables can be crowded!

I absolutely love this place. The atmosphere is just so happy and full of life. The actors are amazingly skilled and naturally funny without even trying.
I have seen quite a few plays at this small venue but what I can say is that every time is like going there for the first time and every time is better than the time before (or so it seems).
Each play is like a new journey into the unknown. Each new cast member provides the cast a gift they did not know they needed (which is pretty impressive since they didn’t need much). The cast not only displays an evening of entertainment but they also take care of your hunger pains for food at the bar line. The bar line is for food and alcohol such as beer, wine, soda, teas, coffee, hot cocoa or water, and foods such as chili, nachos, hot dogs, popcorn or even good old snacks such as chips or pretzels with cheese.
The place is amazing, the food is mediocre but the cast make everything worth the value of an amazing night filled with fantasy and warmth of a comedic persuasion.

Food, seating arrangements and customer service are absolutely terrible.
The actors are hit and miss – it really depends on the show.

Totally fun. The scrooge show was a little too serious (act 1 of 3), but the other 2 acts were great. Normally, all 3 shows are great.
I’d definitely recommend going! not too expensive and great fun.

I could not recommend going to see their shows enough! After hearing about the Bride of Frankenstein from a friend of mine I had to check it out! They warmly welcome you into the theater and set the tone for a great night.
The entire show was flawless and the satirical humor cannot be beat! Personally I enjoyed sitting along the side benches, seemed a bit more comfortable then the tables and slightly more spacious. Super friendly staff, it’s apparent that they are customer oriented and want to make sure you enjoy the show as much as they do putting it on.
PS the nachos were delicious!

You really just can’t go wrong with this place. I’ve been here several times, and it is a huge hit across the board — as much for adult birthday parties as a night out with my tween son. When it’s crowded, which is often, you are elbow to elbow and knee to knee with other patrons, and that is much of the charm. While the headliner is always great (expect to have a fun time booing and hissing), the Revue most often steals the show. The engaging and excellent cast also serves the food and the lively fun of being in the ordering line is a MUST! Be prepared to be greeted warmly and when you tip, they sing a jingle for you — so. fantastic. Did I mention that the food is not good? Eat beforehand, and join the line for snacks, beer and wine.

We loved the show. The cast makes sure the audience has a great time. However I would eat before arriving the food is horrible but if you just want popcorn and candy your fine, enjoy.

Really, really fun! My husband & I enjoyed a great night there. The ensemble is very professional & truly entertaining. Great for all ages. Nice venue & service is wonderful too.

We went to see one their productions while
Camping in the area and I loved every minute of it. It was hilarious and the popcorn was delicious. If you’re ever in the area you should definitely go check it out, especially if you love theatre. The actors were so nice and friendly and they were also
The ones working the snack bar, busing tables, and ushering before the show and during intermission. It was such a fun experience. I especially enjoyed the vaudeville bit they did at the end.

My eleven-​year-​old son and I went to see the La Rue’s Return tonight and had a wonderful time! This is a hardworking bunch of young actors and they were great! They not only performed the melodrama and a vaudeville show, they even fixed our surprisingly tasty dinner. It was almost 3 hours of non-​stop action without even counting the time they took to prepare and get into costume.
They were funny and hit their cues without fail but everything felt spontaneous. The actors and the pianist (don’t forget the piano is integral for a melodrama) worked well together to put on a terrific show. I found myself wishing I could haul a bunch of friends up to see it. Unfortunately, it’s over a hundred miles for us or I’d definitely be back for the next show. Hopefully, before too long…
The melodrama was fun but the vaudeville was even better. I especially liked the tale of the tone deaf and rhythmless. My son had every bit as much fun as I did and the 17 year-​old boy in front of me enjoyed it too. What better praise?

If you’d like to spend an evening laughing, this is a great place to do it.

The Great American Melodrama is a must see when in Pismo or Oceano. We have enjoyed a few of their shows but favor the Holiday Extravaganza! The vaudeville review at the end of the show is always hysterical. Usually 2 intermissions to grab food & drinks being served by the actors/​actresses! So much fun! Make reservations and the best seats are along the sides and in the back, the tables are very small.

Loved it! Haven’t been to a melodrama in years, and the players didn’t disappoint. The vaudeville at the end of the show was my favorite part.
At $ 25 a ticket, definitely worth a visit, and the consideration of a whole season.

What a hoot! I was visiting my sister, a Cal Poly student, and she wanted to come here. We saw a show called «Leading Ladies» that was absolutely hysterical! I laughed so hard the whole time. The plot twists were great. The cast was so energetic and talented. I don’t know how they have the energy to host the show, act in it AND do all the concessions at the bar themselves. WOW
And the vaudeville at the end was hilarious. The singing, the dancing, and the mash-​up of Peter Pan and Annie… Peter Pannie… oh my gosh… we were dying. What a great way to spend our Saturday night. And from the packed house, it looks like all the locals love it too. It’s great to see a small local theater thriving.

My wife and I visited the Melodrama last night for their Christmas Extravaganza and had a great time.
The show was in three acts: A Christmas Carol, Fractured fairy tale and finally a Vaudeville review.
It was a great show. The actors were talented and engaged. They seemed to be having as good a time as the audience.
The fractured fairy tale was hilarious. Little Red Riding hood and her blackberry stole the show. She has the teenage «eye rolls» down pat.
The Vaudeville review featured the company great voices and old stand-​bys from SNL.
When the ticket cost is considered ($ 24) this has to be the best price to value option around.

I came in last night with friends for a little Scary Poppins and we really enjoyed out night. Of the group, I was the only one who hadn’t been (being a recent transplant from SoCal). It immediately reminded me of Knott’s Berry Farm and the Hoop-​Dee-​Do Review at Frontier Landing at Disney World. It was so much fun!!!
The show itself was hilarious. The acting was top notch and everyone was the scene stealer whenever they spoke. Scary Poppins was downright hilarious. From her facial expressions to one-​liners, she couldn’t have been more perfectly cast. The children were hilarious with their constant bickering and tomboy/​feminine boy antics. Everyone was really great. The song parodies were so, so, so funny! My favorite was the Single Ladies parody. It had the audience laughing throughout.
Concessions were movie theater style (hot dogs, nachos, candy, popcorn, etc.) so you can eat at your seat or eat ahead of time and have a snack during the show. Pricing all around wasn’t back.
I’d prefer to sit in the «pews», as one of the cast members called it. The floor seats look crazy cramped for four-​to-​a-​table. Parking wasn’t an issue, but be prepared to park on the street if you find yourself getting to the Melodrama closer to curtain up.

We saw scary poppins tonight and it was very entertaining! Ive been coming to the melodrama since I was 5 years old, had many school trips to are shows, and have only missed a 2 christmas extravaganzas since I was introduced to this lovely place. Nice atmospherw and snacks :)

Around the world in 80 days was fantastic! My husband and I are very tall people and thankfully the person who helped us in the ticket office helped us choose seats with plenty of leg room. However with such a small theater, I’m sure no matter where you sit is fine. The vaudeville review at the end was hilarious! We brought in our own bottle of wine, paying a $ 10 corkage fee because I figured that the bottles they sold for $ 22 would be subpar, but was surprised to see some of my favorite local bottles featured! Definitely a great deal for snacks and drinks. We were probably about half the age of most of the patrons, but who cares, it was so much fun! Considering season tickets. All locals and tourists will surely be entertained.
