Hon’s waited over 45min for our food. When we would ask how much longer they would look at us deer in headlights. REALLY what can be so hard to server our order. Then they come with a different food that’s not our. I tell we are leaving and now she know English. What a frecken joke.

This was one of the wrist experiences that I have had in a sushi joint, they OVERCHARGED us for a mistake made by the waiter.

Service was weak. Asked for a table with chairs. Girl tried to argue the booth was better. I know what I want. I needed a chair. I have problems with booths. First thing I noticed was how dark the place was. The floor was in definate disrepair at the entrance. Décor was nice. Areas with vases and plants had spot lights on them. My daughter recommended the«All You Can Eat». I’m not a big eater, so the most we accomplished between us was 4 sushi rolls. At an average price of $ 9 each, we had about $ 36 of food. Instead of doing the ethical thing and adjusting the bill according to what we really ate, we were charged $ 25 each. That’s $ 50 for roughly $ 36 of food. I already told you the service was weak. We were hardly attended to until they came with the bill. The girls can hardly be understood, much less heard. I know very well the trick to give change in a manner to maximize your tip. I refused to leave a tip. I already paid $ 15 too much and the service was lacking. Food was okay, only. The seaweed was like chewing rubber. The roll was thick, but because it had a really thick layer of rice. Flavor was more to the bland side. I’ve definitely had better at other places. I do not recommend this place. It was my first and last visit.

Maybe under staffed, but customer service was horrible. Took awhile to seat us,(only 3 tables were occupied) took awhile to get our order, took awhile to get our check. Spent more time in here than we should of.

I’m new to area — from San Fran area — and I’ve tried many sushi places nearby in O’side as well as Carlsbad — and I keep coming back to Hon Sushi! They deserve more than 3 stars! People are always nice& accommodating! Fish is always fresh — and rolls have lots of seafood unlike some other places I’ve been too — in both towns!!! I had several but one of my favorites is the Cucumber Paradise!!! And their wasabi is a great texture — and heat! I like to sit at the Bar where the Sushi is being made — the guys are great and can clearly see them as they make it! There are tvs showing sports and Sapporo on Tap or pitcher! Their glasses are ice cold and made of nice thick glass. Best place around!!!

Food was okay but the service was HORRIBLE. So dissapointed with the service at this place. My boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner on Tuesday, May 10th and we will NOT be coming back. The rolls were good but the service was terrible. As soon as a large party came in we were ignored and forgotten. The waitress did not even come back to check on us or give us our check after we had asked for it. The restaurant was not even busy! In addition to the terrible service we received our edamame had a bug in it! When we told the waitress all she did was say«I’m sorry, that’s so scary» and took our plate away. They did not even bother to comp our meal after that incident. Diners beware.

Cleanliness is good. Food is decent. We come here out of sheer convenience. I like the all you can eat option but the kids meals are over priced. Also, their soy sauce is pretty odd… I don’t know what it is. too sour? maybe watered down? Ill come back… but I can’t say its my favorite.

Worst ever. Please don’t do it. Hair in Sushi. Deep fried sushi rolls came out not fried taste like better. Salmon was probably a week old and starting to go bad. Do not recommend this place ever.

I’m super late in reviewing this place. First off, the sushi here isn’t out-of-this-world, but it does its job and it does it damn well. I am never disappointed, and — if you’re nice –they might even make you a roll off the menu. I’ve gone to Hon Sushi way more times than I can count. The staff is always super chill and the food is always satisfying. Definitely recommend.

Don’t eat here. We have been twice. The first time we ordered the all you can eat. We sent the crab meat back because it was fake crab. They would only bring out one item at a time, and when we were finished with it, then would bring out the next item. We weren’t able to have a palette of flavors on the table. The service was slow and awful. Last night, 4 of us went and decided not to get the all you can eat, but picked our own sushi. $ 228.00 later, we were stunned by what that $ got us. We had to ask for refills on drinks, we were never checked on during the meal unless we waved the waitress down. It wasn’t a busy night, only 1 other customer, or I would have understood the horrible service. When we ordered the sushi, the waitress kept asking us if we knew how much food we were ordering. She kept making it sound like it was a feast for a king and his members. It wasn’t. When she brought the food out, she just plopped it on the table and didn’t take time to rearrange it so it would all fit. The boards the food is brought on, are big giving the illusion of small food. When she brought our bill, the waitress said«you should have ordered the all you can eat.» I asked her if she could change our bill to reflect that, she stated, «No, because the portions are different.» I took her statement to mean, the all you can eat is the fake crab and the paper thin food. We won’t be going back or recommending his place to our friends and guests. I felt like our bill made up for their few customer night.

Food is good but the service is awful. First, it took 45 min to get our food. Then when we finally received our food, they didn’t give us chopsticks… Sushi and no chopsticks. It’s hard to get ahold of your waiter. Sushi is priced well.

This sushi place is the place to go if you want endless sushi! Although you get two times to order and must eat everything or else they will charge you. They have great appetizers as well that is included with the all you can eat sushi option! The seating was also so cute, I forgot to take a picture of it! It was a friday night when I went and I thought they took very long to bring out the sushi. Other than that it was a great place to eat!

All you can eat menu doesn’t provide variety and the quality of fish is not fresh… on top of that they put too much rice in sushi and roll…:( The plates and soy sauce bowls are so old… and the cushions for seats are so dirty… Hope that they clean the cushions and change the serving plates and increase the quality of food. Only thing I enjoyed from the place was nice waitresses.

I am writing this Unilocal review just as I am leaving this restaurant. Where should I start? Pros: –Beautiful traditional Japanese interior Cons: –minimal communication among workers and customers –The rice made for the sushi taste like traditionally cooked jasmine rice(Rice is the main ingredient in sushi and this made every fish taste terrible) — low quality fish(would expect more from a restaurant right next to the ocean) — certain fish tasted really fishy(yellowtail and surfclam) I am only giving this one star because of their excellent tasting mochi ice cream. They have green tea, mango, and strawberry. Unfortuantely they didn’t have any green tea when I really wanted some. Etc(i tipped them $ 13 out of pittiness. Otherwise I would have just payed and left)

We went for the all-you can eat, as others have done. And, unlike others, I don’t have any issues with the rules(2 passes, as much as you want each time, and anything left over you pay for separately). The issue I have is that the rolls weren’t really great. They were OK(hence the three stars), but not great. There’s about 3 times as much rice as there should be on each roll… the rolls are really thick, and if you were to look at the slices you’d see that on each slice more than 2⁄3 of the slice is rice… that’s a way to cut down on price for an all you can eat, but it’s not a way to make good sushi. As an aside, the rice itself was a bit overdone for me. The sashimi we had was good, the miso soup was also very good, the egg rolls were just OK though as well. All in all, I probably won’t go back.

Hon’s Sushi is definitely the place to go for all you can eat. When my wife and I are craving some sushi and just want to shove our faces with raw fish… we come here. The quality of their fish is not bad. The selection of fish and rolls are decent. The only reason they don’t get a 5 stars is because they only allow you 2 rounds. Meaning, you are only allowed to order 2 times during your all you can eat so, make your choices wisely. My tip is to order a lot on your first round so that way, on your second round you will pretty much know how much more you can eat or which one’s you really enjoyed. Because if you don’t finish what you ordered they will charge you.

Très bon restaurant japonais. Des très bons sashimis et de délicieux spicy tuna tempura rolls(riz crispy et légèrement piquant). Nous y sommes allés 6 fois en 1 mois. C’est pour dire !

haven’t been to this location since it was JAPANUS so it’s been a while. surprisingly good experience for an AYCE place. definitely a star for the niche. everything came out quickly. everything looked good. fish was fresh. i was actually pleasantly surprised. went with a friend of mine(and he’s six five and three hundred plus pounds and gotta scare the BEJESUS out of AYCE folks when they see him coming) and a couple of our kids — his fifteen year old daughter and my ten year old daughter and eight year old son. we were under a time crunch(headed for a soccer game in DELMAR) and couldn’t stay long enough to seriously hurt HON but we did manage a pretty fair dent in what little time we had. service was prompt. food was(duh !!!) plentiful and, as you can probably tell by the photo(we got four trays that size before the clock ran down and we had to dash) we ordered a lot. not a huge fan of AYCE places but would put this place toward the top of the list.

I was very torn when writing this review as this was a longtime family favorite sushi spot in O’side. However, I’m sad to say that it has seemed to go drastically downhill over the past few years. I literally had to pull apart my Caterpillar Roll to find any eel and even though I finally glimpsed the little fishy, it was almost nonexistent. Being someone who cannot eat more than one roll at a time I truly appreciate that one roll to be nothing short of delicious. Barely there eel and not super fresh avocado bummed me out. Sadly, this has been the norm the last few times I’ve gone, and I have been let down. Our 5 person table was fairly simple with 2 All you can eats and 3 on the regular menu items. However, all but the AYCE items were incorrect. The positives are that the servers are super friendly and accommodating especially with said mistakes and hustle with a quickness to try and make up for it. Sadly, with so many other awesome places to choose from, I doubt I will be coming back.
