If you know anything about real BBQ than I cannot imagine that you will like this place. First off I’m a big fried okra fan. What they brought to the table was frozen and then fried okra out of some bulk shopping bag. It was Denny’s quality at best. Next came our meals. The brisket was fatty and low on the flavor scale. My wife’s pulled chicken sandwich had no flavor. The coleslaw was soft and warm(cold and crisp is how you are supposed to serve it). Finally the baked potato looked like it was cooked yesterday and quickly re-heated in the microwave. It might be one of the worst dining options I have seen in Utah. If they tried to serve this stuff in Texas they would be ran out of town. I would give them zero stars if I could. They get one star because our server was prompt and courteous. She did a good job.

This place is a must try for anybody that truly loves a good BBQ joint. I had my doubts but after trying the brisket and ribs, I will be back! The sides were good too! The waitress was great and kept checking on us throughout our meal. I’m telling you, if you want some good eats with big portions, come to this spot.

Because of the location of this place, it would have been incredibly convenient for me it was any good and with any look, at a high enough standard to add to my lunch list. Alas, this was not to be here. Things went downhill pretty much from the get-go. Parking again in a nearly empty lot(this has been a common theme every time I think of going here), we wander in and there’s no front of the house. At all. Figuring it was seat yourself, we started wandering around and eventually someone came out and seated us. If this had been a lunch client I was trying to impressed, I would have been irritated at the embarrassment. As it was, it was just weird and kind of unnerving. So, the tone is set poorly and we quickly ordered while we still had someone there. As is my wont, I had the biggest sampler plate I could find, which I believe was a pork plate. The sides were atrocious, rubbery and chewy corn, toast that very clear had some sort of oil spread drenched all over it(this same stuff was on the corn and is obviously synthetic and not very pleasant-tasting) and the beans were swimming in a sauce that was borderline nauseating. All of this I can forgive if the BBQ is any good. Long story short: it isn’t here. This BBQ is mediocre at best. I hesitate to call this BBQ at all, as that name means, at least to me, a smoky flavor or at least a pretense of it at the bare minimum. It was present on the pulled pork(best of the lot, though it looked almost pre-chewed), but none of the other items. The sausage, though pedestrian, was next best, then the ribs and the fatty slices of pork were dead last. In fact, if I ever eat there again, those are right out. The ribs are barely flavored as the place, correctly I’m sure, figures that everyone is going to drown it in sauce. Speaking of sauces, the Carolina vinegar works well with the pulled pork, the mustard is useless and the sweet and spicy sauces are not so wonderful solo, but bordering on decent mixed together, especially in conjunction with the vinegar. There is also a tea, but you can frankly get a better instant mix at Smith’s. I had my reservations about this place, which is one of the reasons I took so long to actually go in, but convenience dictated choice today. It is better than Big Al’s, but if I’m going to beat on that place for substandard food, then this one has to take a licking too. It is better here, but not by a lot, but less expensive. Service was not great at either place. I will not return by choice, which they both have in common. Utah BBQ can and is much better than this elsewhere.

I’ve been back to Woody’s a few times for lunch and dinner. It’s close to home and convenient for lunch /dinner /take out. I’ve liked most everything I’ve ordered on the menu with very few exceptions. There are still several items that«stand out» that will become regulars on my core list of orders: 1.) Corn Fritters. Fried pieces of gooey corn goodness. Veggies and fried food. Is there anything better? 2.) The prime rib. It’s not like what you would expect. Where it is smoked it has a distinct flavor that isn’t like the fatty, inside-of-your-cheek textured prime rib you get at the other restaurants. 3.) The beans. Pork and beans are a simple dish but easy to mess up. These guys have it dialed down. I’m not a coleslaw fan so the beans are my side of choice. I hope you give this place a try. It is nice to have options in the neighborhood and some of the reviews on here seem a little sketchy(one restaurant review total and references to some competition.) I am confident that the food will win you over and the restaurant experience will only get better as time passes and the«newness» of the staff wears off.

I went here and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The meat has an amazing smokey flavor and they make their own sauces which are all pretty decent. The wait staff was awesome and the owner, Mike, even came out to greet us. It was a ton of food that they brought out too! We got the feast for 2 and it was an awesome combo of everything bar-b-q. I will and plan to return here as much as I can and I am glad that Harrison Blvd finally has a worth while restaurant to eat at. We WILL be back.
