I shopped around for months trying to find the perfect pair of glasses and kept finding myself back at Black Optical. They had several fantastic frames but it was a bit more than I was looking to spend. I finally bit the bullet and got my glasses and I have zero regrets. Best pair of glasses I’ve ever owned. Ryan was super helpful and seems to have a magic memory– each time I came in he knew my name and remembered which frames I was interested in and had them pulled from the shelf and ready for me to try on again. Worth the extra money.

I read great reviews about the store and went and visited while in town(live in Dallas). Sure enough Ryan asked a lot of questions, and listened to me explain my ideal situation: no Chinese made frames(turns out they don’t carry any), I was a value buyer(I know this is a high end store) but said my budget was in the $ 3xx range, explained the look I thought I wanted. Within minutes he had 6 great frames for me to try on and explained why he choose them. He suggested taking photos of me with them on and then we would sort out the winners. He did such a great job and with his deep inventory I bought two frames one for regular and one for sunglasses. I have no regrets for stopping in!

If stellar service and unique selection is your goal, Black Optical is your destination. They don’t stock the typical Chanel and D&G glasses; this is high-end hipster. «Sticker-shock» isn’t an option, as there are no price tags :) So why would a person be willing to pay, $ 400-$ 500 for a pair of glasses? Because they fit, feel great, and look even better. Let me tell you, as an Asian, I’d been on a quest for a pair of sunglasses that would actually fit my face(i.e. stay up on my non-existent nose bridge and not sit on my cheeks(other Asians will know exactly what I’m talking about)) for YEARS. I looked into Asian-fit sunglasses(only a few brands actually have a line specific to the Asian makeup), but no stores in OKC carried them, and I got tired of ordering online, only to have to deal with returns. I visited practically every sunglass-specialty, low-end, and high-end optical store in the city, but nobody carried anything that actually«fit» me. «Fit» — as in, you know — Being able to enjoy a neighborhood jog or a round of golf without my sunglasses continually running down my face like water on a windshield? Remembering this place mentioned from a friend who knew the owner, I decided to try one more time… The décor and set up is definitely upscale, but still maintains a welcoming feeling. Ryan greeted me and the hubby — I hurried into my: «wide face, no bridge — Please don’t make me try on something that will just bend the frames outwards and make me feel like a freak» spiel and Ryan just smiled and told me no problem. Ryan had me try on several styles(none of which were ill-suited for my facial structure) and through trial-and-error and personal feedback, we hit gold — A pair of pilot-style Salt glasses. He fit the glasses brilliantly — Who knew it was possible to jump about, while whipping your head around like a head-banger and STILL have your sunglasses stay in place? This was joy to the extreme. And the cherry-on-top: sunglasses is not all that Black Optical carries — so when I mentioned I was also in the market for a pair of regular glasses and explained how Lens Crafters(I know — opposite end of the spectrum) had let me down when the one pair of frames that semi-fit we’re «too small» for my prescription, Ryan looked at my script, chuckled and told me no problem. My biggest complaint about glasses was that they pinched behind my ears(causing extremely unpleasant headaches) and always slid down my face. Ryan found a darling pair of Mykita frames(you seriously would not believe how lightweight they are), and was able to order me up a pair of crazy-cute, Crizal-lens, glasses. That was a year ago. I went in today to get my Salt glasses readjusted(no expiration on adjustments), and because I now know the enjoyment of a «good» pair of sunglasses, I just had to get another set — Variety is the spice of life, right? ;) If you’ve EVER had trouble finding the«right» pair of glasses, are looking for top-notch service, and have either money to burn, or good saving-up habits, Black Optical is the store for you.

I love this place! My husband and I updated our frames recently and ever since have felt heaps cool. You don’t realize how much potential some unique specs have to freshen up your look until you go! Pros: personalized service, stellar selection, just plain FUN Cons: pricey(but worth the splurge if you wear specs often)
