Oh I am so sad to knock this down a notch. I so wanted this place to always be my fav. However, I think with the popularity has come many changes of beloved dishes to meet the more«American» tastebuds. This place a couple years back use to be our favorite so much that were were there 2 to 3 times a week. We already knew we would have to wait for Ms Pat to come up and cancel out all the credit card receipts so ours could be scanned again. To say the least we loved the food here. Now skipping to today. I decided to try and old goodie that i use to love, fundido(cheese dip w/chorizo). It had slightly gone south last time I ordered it(something with the chorizo). This time it was all wrong. It was yellow cheese glop. Then we asked more chips for the dip. We ate all the chips with the salsa. We were charged $ 2 for extra chips. We asked chips don’t come with the dip? No! Huh? Oh and Roomie was upset that she no longer gets her radishes with her tacos and she said they did not taste as good as before either. I thought they were the same. I wish I could turn back the clock on this place.

What Rob and Tresha said. I’ve seen this little whole in the wall and its next-door Mexican convenience store for about the last three years. I didn’t venture in until earlier this year, and boy am I glad I did. I’ll tell you how authentic it is. The initial waitress I had could not submit my order, apparently because her English was not good enough. The owner had to come out of the back to take my order. I hadn’t read any reviews of this place, so I didn’t know what to expect, but the green and red sauces and chips were both fantastic. Like Tresha, I suspect there is crack in them. Still, I wasn’t quite adventurous enough to order anything with seafood, in Olathe KS, on a Monday, so I went with the tacos. The menu descriptions looked like authentic Mexican street fare that I saw on Bordain’s show. They have 5 different varieties, including carne azada, carnitas, al pastor, cabeza and I forget the other one, but know it was not something I normally eat(tongue, maybe), so I went with what I knew: cartnitas, carne azada and al pastor. They come out on two flat corn tortillas, with a heaping load of filling topped with cilantro and onion. At $ 1.50 per taco, they were a bargain. They were fresh, flavorful and very delicious! I wanted to try their other other fare, but I now suspect the tacos have crack in them too. I’ve been back three times since the initial visit(including the next day after my initial visit) and ordered the same thing all three times. It was that good! I just wish I got to spend more time at the courthouse so I could eat here more often. Give this place a try. It isn’t much for décor, and the service isn’t all that whippy, but they offer great eats at a very, very reasonable price. I think you will love it like I do.

OMG! Finally, some real«auténtica comida Mexicana» in Johnson County. Mariscos Veracruz in downtown Olathe is a plain, homey restaurant with a somewhat limited menu specializing in Mexican seafood. The chips were hot and crispy, and they bring you small dishes of very good red and green sauce, both fairly spicy and possibly addicting! I had the«camarones al mojo de ajo»(shrimp in garlic sauce) and it was excellent — plenty of juicy shrimp in a nicely garlicky sauce, served with rice and beans that were also very good. And they ask for(and bring you) your choice of flour or corn tortillas, at no extra cost. They also refilled my big glass of agua de jamaica at no extra charge! It all tasted the way I expected — I’ve long been searching for a place that serves food that tastes like the kind I grew up with in central Mexico. Mariscos Veracruz really delivered! Run, do not walk, to this friendly gem of a place! We need to keep it busy and open, serving its authentic Mexican cooking!
