We were a film crew of about 18 people filming near Groton, CT for the past 6 weeks. We got take-out from here every week(sometimes more!) and I can’t say enough about this place. The sandwiches are to DIE for, the soup from the Mystic Soup Company is amazing, and no matter what — our food(which was always a massive order of individual sandwiches and pizzas) was always on time and perfect. I will definitely miss coming here — but will be sure to revisit any time I come back. Thank you Old Mystic General Store for taking such great care of us! :) :)

Ordered a large bacon, sausage and green pepper pizza and a panini. The panini was great as always, i’ve ordered a few others before, but the pizza was awesome! Finally somewhere that does New Haven style Pizza in Mystic! I would say you definitely have to try their pizza, and you will be ordering it every weekend. I think because they are so new a lot of people don’t realize what’s right at their doorstep, but the owners have won me over as a customer with the best thin crust pizza around. Try it, you can thank me later!

My first time here today, and I was very impressed. I give this place four stars for the exceptional customer service and the quality of the food. The supposed«small» sandwich we ordered was huge, it could easily feed 2 people. The food tasted great and they also offer gelato, freshly made baked goods and cannolis. The only negative and my reason for not giving it 5 stars is the décor and ambiance. Nothing special in that department, but with great food and great service who cares! I’ll visit this place again and I’ll be sure to bring my two growing hungry boys.

It’s too bad I live in Hollywood FL. But I am fortunate to have family who live in Old Mystic, CT. Whenever I visit there, I always make it a point to visit the General Store” for a Grinder. If you are part of anywhere in the world other than New England you are probably asking yourself«what is a grinder». Well, this is not easily explained. It depends where you live. To name just a few names, it’s also called: Submarine sandwich, Hero sandwich, Hoagie sandwich, Blimpie sandwich, and many more that I can’t think of. Most importantly, if you visit New England you have to try a grinder, and if you have the opportunity to visit Mystic, CT area, make sure you get to the General Store in Old Mystic. The grinders there are the best. They are made right in front of you and you choose the meats and veggies you wish on your grinder. I suggest getting finely shredded cabbage instead of boring Iceburg lettuce. Most importantly is the bread. It makes all the difference in the world. The bread there is baked fresh several times daily. Do not forget to have the bread rubbed with olive oil. You put all this together and you have the best grinder you’ll ever taste, and I promise, you’ll never forget ! Now I’m wishing I could be in Connecticut now. I just made myself hungry and longing for a General Store grinder.

Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, as most of the parking is is the middle of an intersection. But it is well worth it! Park over on Main Street and walk rather than parking on RT27. Onto the important part of the review. The grinders. I have yet to meet a grinder that is better than the ones made here. A great grinder is a certain flavor and crunch/chewiness combination. It’s really hard to describe, but when you taste it, you know! I used to come here at least once a week for years. When I founds out I was coming back to CT for a few weeks, I just had to make sure I made it out to Mystic to indulge. Just as wonderful as I remember. Even better, actually, since absence makes the heart grow fonder.
