My family of 3 children & myself and husband went on a Saturday night. kind of early like 5:30.we were seated fairly quickly, the salad bar was good but after that it was downhill. It took quite awhile for our orders to come out. My daughter ordered the Chicken Marsala, she didn;t want steak because she had her braces just adjusted a few days earlier and wanted a softer meat. It was not like any Chicken Marsala I have ever seen. She did not care for it very much, my husband and I tried it to see if she was just being picky, no it tasted weird? Just not what I have tasted before, I guess this is CB’s recipe. It was bad. My order of prime rib and mashed potatoes came out cold. not even warm. My husband told them to take it back and get me a new plate hot. the other meals were ok. my one son said his steak was not really hot either but it was cooked ok. My plate did come back hot, but not really alot of prime rib or potatoes. I also had to ask for horseradish sauce which I love with prime rib. That took a little bit to get also. We used to go here long ago and haven’t been for quite awhile, but I remember the portions being much bigger. It took awhile to get our waitress to refill our drinks. All in all it was just not that good. We were all really disappointed and not empressed with our food,.If you are going to spend over $ 100.00 you kind of want better. The vegetables were even bad. Overall just really bad food and service. We all agreed we do not have to ever come back again. Save your money and go elsewhere! I really don;t see how this place has high ratings on this site. I just know we are not going back.

I work close and with so few choices in Old Tappan you are bound to stop in. Always consistent and the bar staff is friendly. Nice outside area when weather permits. They have a great salad bar.

We’ve been coming here for a while. I should have reviewed it sooner. Sorry! Good food, good service, reasonable prices, and drinks from the bar. What more do you want? The prime rib and the baby back ribs are usually pretty good, but what surprised me was the hamburgers. They were juicy and really tasty. Not sure why I was surprised. I guess I figured a steakhouse wouldn’t put much effort into a simple hamburger. I was happy to be proven wrong. This is a casual family restaurant with a salad bar in the middle of the dining area. Nothing fancy here, but it’s been a rare occasion when the food and/or service wasn’t good.

I have been coming to this place for years! The food is pretty much on point all the time! My favorite thing at this place is always the salad bar! Always fresh and you can eat as much as you want! And the price for the salad bar is pretty reasonable!

Came here last night for a quick bite. A storm had just passed through and the computers were down. As soon as we walked in, I knew there would be problems. It took a good 5 minutes for someone to seat us, but the waitress/hostess was really nice and it wasn’t her fault that everyone working there was freaking out over the lost wifi… I’ll cut to the chase-I love the salad bar and like I said, the waitress was sweet and she explained that we needed to pay cash because of the computers being down. However, the bartender really ruined things. We ate at a booth in the bar,(when I asked if we could sit there she literally rolled her eyes and walked away). Since we were the only ones in the bar area for a while, I had to listen to her complain about how tired she was and how the computers weren’t working and how she wasn’t going to help out in any way shape or form. Everytime a waitress would ask her for a drink, she had a major tude. She was huffing and puffing and stomping around like a child having a tantrum… Then her«usuals» shuffled in and she ran out from behind the bar to give hugs and kisses and act all nicey nice. Even my 12 year old son was like, «What is wrong with her?» I really wanted to say something like why are you working at a job that deals with the public when you clearly hate people. And your job. I was very disappointed that the nice manager wasn’t there, which is obviously why this woman was carrying on like she had the worst job ever. BTW, the food was pretty good and the salad bar is a no brainer.

We had not been to Charlie Brown’s in a long time but a friend was visiting last night and wanted to eat there so we thought we would give it another try. I must say even though we had to wait 20 min for a table(we were a large party). Our server Chris was very tentative and professional with dealing with a table of woman. We all had a variety of dishes that were done to our liking. Loved the prime rib. So, we asked Chris to see the manager to express our dining experience and we were pleasantly surprised it was a woman! Kudos to Charlie Browns … We will be back again more often now.

Great Salad Bar where everything is fresh and chilled. Waiter brought our Dinner just as we started to eat our salad so we sent it back and told him we were eating our salad and asked him to bring our dinner when we finished our salads, that was a mistake, needless to say, our dinner came out dried up from obviously sitting under some heat lamp the whole time. I blame this on the waiter.

Haven’t been to a Charlie Browns in years drove past it looks really nice from the outside was surprised decided to take a chance it and eat there. Me and my friends got the chili appetizer and the chicken quesadilla. Chili was very bland would not recommend but the problem is that was the best thing I had. Chicken quesadilla had in it some kind of meat might have been squirrel. We All were spitting it out. I ordered the pot roast it was hard to find a piece that wasn’t a chunk of fat. My friend got the chop steak. Tasted like a chunk of frozen salted horse meat. The soda was the worst soda I ever had. Never clean there taps i guess. About 40 minutes after the meal we went to the mall where my friends have to find the nearest bathroom to vomit in lucky one because I didn’t vomit and I have this feeling inside me like an alien about to pop out.

Good Salad bar. Subpar service. Food is good I especially like there salad bar. However, service is not good I waited for ever to get my soda refilled and for the check, If you decide to sit outside be warned you will be totally forgotton. It’s a shame because the food is good, owner,/ manager is nice but needs to be more on top of staff.

Food is okay for the most part. The salad bar is fresh and the best part of this place. A good choice overall if in OT.

I always loved this place ever since I was little. The prime rib is fantastic as well as the fish entrees. As for appetizers, I always look forward to the french onion soup and the salad bar, which has quite a large variety of toppings, dressings, and breads. Over the years I have seen CB’s change its interior décor a few times. I prefer the way it looked about 12 years ago. It was a much warmer, cozier environment. The way it looks now is too bare. There are weird pictures on the wall of NY/NJ landmarks. It looks really out of place and more like a café than a steakhouse. The cheesiness of the décor on the walls cheapens this restaurant. Nevertheless, the food is fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes are definitely different than they were in the past, however, they still taste good. I overheard a server talking about renovations that will soon start in this specific restaurant. I am not sure if other CB’s in the area are following suite, but I think it is a good idea to fix it up. More booths are needed and less tables. Tables make the restaurant look too open… it’s not as private. The renovation will probably attract more patrons as well. Hopefully they will make it the cozy CB’s I grew up with.

Came here the other day for lunch, with recommendations to try the prime rib. For the appetizer, I had the garlic shrimp which was pretty good. Opted for the duchess cut which was 8 oz., I’m tiny so that was a perfect portion for me. The prime rib was cooked well and the au jus was great! Service was slow, which I can see why the place receives such low ratings. I waited 20 minutes for a refill of water, even though my waiter was polite. He was also the only waiter for the entire dining area at the time.

I wasn’t impressed with this place at all. Service was very slow and kind of all over the place(waited a good 10 minutes for a water). I ordered the mozzarella sticks, the stuffed shrimp and a Maestro’s margarita. Food was okay, but nothing I’d rave about. The margarita was pretty awful though. It tasted VERY salty, as it looked like most of the salt that was supposed to be on the rim ended up in the drink. I probably won’t be returning here.

Generally, i like Charlie Brown’s restaurants. I find the few around my area to be about the same, its good, reasonably priced food. And the salad bar is very nice, well stocked and clean with a lot of options. the last time I went to this location was with my mom, we wanted to try a special we had heard about, Barramundi fish. It was good, nothing wrong with it, but nothing special. What made this experience negative was that we were seated at a table, and when a nearby booth opened up, we asked if we could switch to it. the server said he would ask the host, and then returned to tell us she said it was reserved. fair enough, i guess, but shortly after other booths began to open up and we were not offered to switch. Thats poor customer service for sure! There were several booths we could have switched to if our server had been more attentive.

Wasted lunch hour… Decided to go to CB’s because it was raining and didn’t feel like traveling far to get lunch. I sat in the bar to grab a quick lunch, I was wrong all around… Nothing quick and no lunch. Bartender was pre occupied with another waitress talking about some none sense. Ordered a coke and spicy Thai shrimp, 20 minutes later my coke appeared and the shrimp closely followed. Ordered a burger, and waited an amazing 45 minutes until the waitress came back and said… «Oh I forgot to put your food in, forgot about you over here. I’ll put it in now» «Don’t bother» Paid for my coke and shrimp lunch, .33 cent tip. Endless apologies, thanks but no thanks. Smells like a leaky basement, all the charm of a busy morgue. Another Old Tappan strikeout… One decent restaurant on Old Tappan road would put a lot of lousy restaurants out of their misery. Charlie Browns is not worth your time.

There used to be a Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse in Yonkers, but used-to-be’s don’t count anymore. They just lay on the floor, till we sweep them away. This place is far from fancy and attracts an old crowd. At least it does during the daytime. The steaks are reliably OK and the salad bar is really decent. It’s good because there are a lot of options, everything seems really fresh and is always stocked. There’s also a killer raisin nut bread. There’s also something comforting and reassuring about watching old people eat steaks. I’m a huge fan, and each time I go here I’m getting closer. They also have a frequent visitor card and send you a birthday coupon worth $ 10 each year. Service can be spotty, but I don’t care. The staff has always been really nice.

CB is always a good stand-by when you want a reliable, standard meal. The salad bar is… well, standard, but quite decent. Good selections on the menu, prepared unimaginatively, but fine for a quick standby dinner. Service has been hit-or-miss here, where one time, I felt rushed, and another time, we were completely forgotten. Overall it’s OK& not bad, but I give it two stars, since yes, I’ve certainly had better.

When I was younger, we used to come here a lot as they really are family friendly and I always remember ordering a Shirley temple and a scoop of cookies & crème for dessert. I saw on Unilocal that they were offering a check-in deal(free firecracker shrimp appetizer) and decided that it was time to come back and see how our old favorite place was doing. The interior is completely different, and everything seems a bit dark and gloomy. Nevertheless, the staff is extremely friendly and the salad bar is always fresh and quickly attended to. The free appetizer was delicious and after eating that and visiting the salad bar, I was already stuffed. But the adventure wasn’t over. I ordered a cheeseburger as my main dish and struggled to make a dent in it. I left feeling satisfied, but the rest of my party, who had ordered steak and fish dishes felt a bit iffy about the experience. Take-away note: The salad bar is a must and make sure to check-in in order to take advantage of the firecracker shrimp appetizer. As for the main dishes, it seems to be a hit or a miss, but my cheeseburger was delicious.

I used to only come here when I don’t have enough time to go into the city for a good steak. My family has been a regular here for a while, but recently the service and food has been deteriorating. I have always loved how the entrees come with the salad bar, and their appetizers are always tasty. A couple of months ago we came here and both mine and my brother’s medium rare rib eye were completely black and burnt on one side, literally inedible. I told the waitress, and she tried convincing me that the black crust was the new«seasoning» they used on the grill. Like are you serious? She then came over with the manager and he told me the same thing, but ended up serving me and my brother perfectly cooked ones(I guess it wasn’t the seasoning). The next time after that was my last. The same thing happened, although this time a little less burnt. How do you even burn a medium rare rib eye? Anyway, my brother and I cut out the burnt parts and managed to eat what was left because I didn’t feel like arguing with anyone. Also they forgot to mention at the door that all their restrooms were out of order. Would have been nice to know. Will not be returning and am desperately hoping a decent steakhouse opens up in the area.

I thought all of the CB’s got bankrupt. Thank Goodness it didn’t. I only come here for the raisin bread and liver paste. AKA mashed meat to my gf. She doesn’t know what she is missing. More for me. I forget what we ordered. But, we went in about closing time and they staff seemed pissed. But, I had my fix of liver and left very happy. It’s sad that i write about the salad bar more than the steak I ordered just to get the salad bar. I feel bad if I just bought the salad bar. I go up there at ;east 4 times. The least I can do is order the steak, gorge on the mashed meat and bread, and take the steak home.
