I was thrilled by the positive signage, promising a safe space for everyone, and stating that harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Good coffee, decent vegetarian selection, and good environment.

Probably my favorite local bar/café/venue of all the local bar/café/venues. Haven’t been here for a show yet but you can see the room with the stage from the bar and it looks pretty solid. Also, they were cool about me breaking a vase last time I was here. I owe you a vase, Obsidian

A seriously cool bar/coffee/café. Fantastic coffee, great panini and waffles. Peanut butter coco bars awesome. Cocktails wonderful but pretty pricy especially after recent price hike.

This place was not what I expected! It was amazing, the food was so good! I had some like breakfast tacos, there were out of this world! The coffee is Stumptown so you can’t go wrong with that! I would absolutely recommend this place!

I’ve been here for drinks and music before but I’d never eaten the food before today. Excellent food. I mean, truly amazing. The flavors and textures of the waffles, the perfectly cooked eggs, and the high quality tea all made for a perfect Sunday breakfast. There was one problem, however. My fork. This was the single worst metal fork that I’ve ever used in a restaurant. It may just as well been a spork. I’ve seen better forks come with an easy bake oven set. Seriously… This fork was about three quarters the size of a normal fork and super thin so it was hard to hold and cut into your hand if you tried to hold it too firmly. Screw that fork. Food was great though.

Nice place, super clean, nice ambience. The bar was very well done. Honestly I wanted to leave a three star review, they advertise espresso and hype their coffee, they DONOT offer info online that they stop serving espresso drinks at a particular hour. Also the drip wasn’t fresh, had to wait for that. If you are driving a long distance and have your heart set on a mocha or whatever and they don’t have what attracted you there… Yeah. Now, the positive. The food is great. I ordered a bacon cheese panini. You can tell I’m not a foody, of course it was wonderful cheese. Served with salad greens and an amazing vinaigrette dressing. Served in a to go box as it would be plated. Nice and neat. The stump town coffee saved this reviews ass. Great drip coffee, flavorful and strong, should get me through a couple counties. They also serve kombucha, I believe the brand was Magic, I love kombucha and this one was very nice. The staff was ok. Helpful and fast as they could be. The lady at the counter wasn’t rude by any means but didn’t seem very sorry that I had gotten off the freeway for an Americano… But again, clean, nice, great food, good ambience with subtle music. Will stop again.

This place I believe is best known for it’s cocktails and coffee drinks but I had enough of both by the time I reached Obsidian. I was really needing just something to eat by the time I reached this place. What I got was kind of a Cajun dish made of spicy rice and beans along with a kale salad. The satisfying but overly huge proportioned dish was delicious, fresh and as it should be since the name implies-spicy! There were several other varieties of rice with a Cajun flair as well! In addition to that they also have panini sandwiches with ingredients and concepts to their sandwiches that look intriguing and delicious so that is motivation for a future stop to partake in those particular sandwiches.

We have been here a few times for cocktails, but only got around to trying the food after work last Friday. We shared the salami & pesto panini and the curried rice and both were magnificent! They each came with a different bed of mixed greens that complimented the dishes. Everything was flavorful, interesting, and cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back to try the waffles and the other paninis & dirty rices. We already knew the cocktails were fantastic, but the cocktails were fantastic again. I don’t have specific suggestions because I think we’ve tried most of them by now and we’ve always been happy. The bar situation reminds me fondly of Tacoma’s Hilltop Kitchen. Parking is easy and the space is designed creatively, making you feel less like you’re right across the street from the Artesian well and more like you’re somewhere very chic and exciting. There are booths to the left, a bar to the right, and another bar that faces the street. There are always people hanging out with laptops, which makes me want to find some reason to take a laptop there and hang out. Service is awesome. Give Obsidian a try. You will be glad you did! :D

Nice beers on tap, attentive staff, interesting things to eat — but mostly, there’s just a wonderful feeling in this place. Safe. Accepting. As though this place embodies everything good and open-minded about Olympia in the best possible way.

Total bummer of a bar. The drinks are expensive and don’t pack the punch for the price tag. I was looking forward to some new fine hand crafted cocktails in Olympia and I thought Obsidian would fit the bill. Sadly just wasn’t the case. Watered down gin for 13 $ just isn’t cool.

Great food and service. We love the waffles. We come here with our family on weekend mornings and it’s always friendly, clean and good. They used to have nitro coffee which was amazing. I sent several people here just for the nitro coffee. Bad news, the nitro coffee is gone! :(that’s going to have to effect our weekend routine unfortunately. Still an Oly favorite.

This is one of the weirdest places I’ve ever been to. We weren’t greeted upon entry and we weren’t sure what to do since it was our first time there. We could see signs that said to order at the front, so we headed that way. The only menu they have is the one that covers the top portion of the front wall. I have really bad eyes, making it hard to read some of the stuff so I ended up walking back and forth and asking a lot of questions, which made the server look very irritated. Apparently, you order and pay and tip before even being seated. Initially, I thought this place was a bar. We were hoping to get some happy hour drinks and food while enjoying an early Friday night. But they have a very goth/hipster/study buddy type of vibe going on here. The guy sitting at the table next to us was writing in his journal and got up to sit on the other side of room because… we were talking too loud? Not sure. But the table behind us was playing some beer game and laughing hysterically so not sure why’d he move. The girl to the side was studying and the table directly next to us had a college kid reading his paper to a guy that might have been a professor. Some people were on their laptops and others were exchanging conversations. It looks like they have a lot of regulars here as everyone else seemed to know what they were doing and how it was supposed to be done. Anyways, we ordered some drinks and some food. The bacon and chèvre waffle was amazing. AMAZING. I would eat that everyday for the rest of my life. Lol. My friend said their dirty rice was very different from what she was used to but for some reason, just could not stop eating it. At the end, normally, you leave a tip and leave but this place has bins set up where the customers are supposed to throw away and organize their own trash? We almost left it at the table but saw some people dropping off their dishes as they were heading out. You’d think some sanitizer or something would be available in that general area… Nope. The food was good, the customer service could use some work and the experience was very… different. Not sure if it was good or bad but I was not relaxed or comfortable here. I’ll give it another try though– maybe just on a different day.

I really love this place! Café by day, bar by night! They offer unique dishes at a fair price. They have local art on the walls. Very hip urban style and décor. Love there waffles! They offer a bunch of different waffles dishes. Their jam is so good! I had the rice bowl with chèvre, bacon, and kale also and it was great! Tons of flavor. I recommend adding a egg, it really tops it off(next time id do my egg over easy). I tried toddy for the first time and loved it! They had toddy in bottles or on tap!!! If you have never had toddy and like dark coffee, you’ll love it! I’d recommend this place to anyone! I’ll be back!

Recently stopped in for brunch with a friend and enjoyed some delicious regular and gluten free waffles. I love that Obsidian has gluten free offerings, especially with waffles, which are a RARE treat for me. I had the bacon & chèvre and my friend had the almond date waffle with Tenino yogurt. The house made jam was phenomenal! I could just eat the jam and be perfectly content! My friend thoroughly enjoyed their choice as well. We shared the Stumptown on nitro and Kombucha… Love. Love. Love. Really, who needs food when you have such divine beverage offerings??? So, so good!

Very annoyed with their customer service! I called 2 weeks ago to make reservations since from the pictures the place looks a little small. I was told they don’t do reservations by a guy, but he suggested that I call the day of. I called again today and the girl told me they don’t make reservations. So I asked her if it would be any problem to just fit in a group of 15. She«put me on hold» but instead I could hear her and her boss talking. It was very unprofessional. She then told me there are no events tonight so it probably wouldn’t be a problem. She then said they didn’t have a reservation system. Hopefully they can get me in tonight with my 14 friends, and the food is good. ** edit ** So… the place was pretty empty when I got there… Had to move our own tables together which I shouldn’t really be doing since I’m pregnant… I ordered the cheese & bacon waffle which was pretty good… Didn’t like the chai tea though. I think I would come back to try a couple other menu items, but the service is really not great at all.

With about a dozen beers on tap and a back room filled with cool local & regional bands, I give this joint a super hip rating for its contribution to Olympia’s night life.

I was meeting up with an ex. I live in Portland, he in Chicago. This placed looked perfect for coffee or a beer. We ordered a couple beers and sat at the«bar». When I went back to order a second round I was very rudely and wrongly told she couldn’t tell if I was drunk?? I said listen I’m sober as a bird, that was my first beer. She says yeah you are guys are acting rowdy so I’m not gonna serve you. My friend and I were astonished and offended. Thanks for totally coming off as judgy.

Offbeat décor, vegan options, and transgender affirmation bathroom — all very characteristic of Olympia. One difference: Obsidian is clean, spacious, and bright which is nice for a change. Until 9pm they welcome all ages, although I’m not sure if kids should be looking at some of the wall arts. The food is ok. The rice dishes have very little protein and not very filling. The waffles were not particularly crispy, or soft, or fluffy, but the flavors are fine. I prefer this over most Starbucks as a place to relax and stretch my legs. They nailed the feng shui here. Bring your laptop to surf or read a book over a cup of coffee or a soda. While the staff are not super friendly, they seem to mind their own and will leave you in peace.

This was a borderline 3 or four starts. Was not a fan of the cheap approach to service. The people working were very nice. The waffles were fine. We liked the almond and date waffles. We will try it one more time. The dirty rice looked good.

Good food, but I didn’t get that amazing good satisfied feelings when I left. Like I usually do when I find a place I love. The chai was a bit watered down… Maybe I’m not use to chai like that… A woman almost smacked her head on a table from tripping over. Crack in the floor that is raised The bathrooms are nice just need to be kept a bit cleaner, but overall a nice clean place to eat at. I did find it strange that with a waffle if you want syrup you have to pay a $ 1 for lol why not just include it and add to the price?
