Athenian Gyros is part of a larger food court underground that connects with First National Bank. Daily specials are posted on the wall as well as the standard menu being posted over the grill. It was a line when I got there, but it moves pretty quickly. Got the Gyro Dinner for $ 6.25. Dinner consists of gyro meat and sauce along with THREE starches. Plate comes with pita bread, rice and potatoes. Personal view is that is a bit over the top. Meat was good, but just a bit salty, Potatoes were okay and I didn’t even touch the rice. Portion was very acceptable. Staff was friendly.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Located in a food court in the Brandeis building downtown, this place is open during the week for breakfast and lunch. Their menu is pretty varied, with Gyros, burgers, soups, pork sandwiches, etc. A decent variety and while this might not be health food, in my opinion it tastes more fresh than some of the other options in this food court. What rounds this place up to four stars in my opinion is the service. I have been working across the street for going on 13 years, and the same people have been serving and making the food the entire time. They have the lunch rush down to a science. Long line when you show up? No worries, this place is fast, efficient, and friendly while they are doing it.

Ordered the Gyros Sandwich and opted for Red Potatoes instead of fries. Gyro Sandwich was good and well-portioned. A little heavy on the tzatziki sauce, but order the tzatziki sauce on the side would solve that easily enough. Red potatoes were awesome. Located in the food court in the Brandeis Building. Dining area is shared with several other restaurants. Service was fast and very friendly and there was none of that«everyone in line should know how to order and have our menu memorized» mentality that you sometimes get at downtown eateries during weekday lunch rush. Definitely a solid lunch choice if you’re in the downtown area at lunchtime and craving gyros.

I live upstairs in the building and this place is great for a breakfast run before heading to the office or lunch when I’m working from home. They’re open around 7:30 but I’ve been down earlier and they’re happy to take my order and they make an excellent breakfast platter with fresh potato hashbrowns. She literally grates them fresh onto the grill. On Thursday and Friday they also have decent biscuits and gravy and they aren’t afraid to give you a lot of it. I will say that it does take a little bit of time(5 – 10 minutes if they’re busy) to get your order but when it’s made fresh and to order you really can’t complain too much. During lunch they have gyros, burgers, good fries and combo meals for a decent price. The people behind the counter are really nice and accommodating for special requests. There’s always a line during lunch so you know it’s good. I’d give them five stars if they were open later or on the weekends but it’s downtown Omaha, what are you going to do?

Best gyro I’ve ever had… anywhere… bar none. Al’s Mediterranean in Birmingham, AL is close, but this is better.
