Excellent BBQ, and the cost is reasonable. I have had the brisk it, ribs, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. They were all great. The sides are homemade and delicious, but real treat is the cornbread.

If you are looking for a legit locally owned restaurant stop here! Hand cut fries, BBQ that rivals the best in Omaha, and corn bread that was so good! If Leah is working she will steer you right. Between the three of us we ordered ribs, burnt ends, Mac ‘n Cheese, potato salad, coleslaw and fries. Everyone wished they had ordered their own order of fries! The meats were perfectly done and you add your own sauce. I am already plotting how this can be a stop on my next visit to Omaha…

Best brisket we’ve had since we lived in Texas! Super nice people and the food is awesome. Smoky flavor all the way through the meat, not just on the outside. Delicious and moist! We picked up 5 lbs of brisket and pulled pork to go and both were delicious! Will be back again soon!

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. Go early or the line will be out the door. We tried the Brisket Philly and the Smokin Gun Sandwich(brisket and sausage on a big bun) comes with freshly made potato chips. The food was outstanding. Rate it 4 stars easy. Service was more along the lines of two stars. Got there at about 11:15 and we did not receive our three sandwiches until almost 12 noon. I understand everything is prepared fresh, but this is really too much. Had the fried cherry pie for dessert. Freshly made and comes out hot with icing melting over the entire top. Really delicious. This is not on the posted menu so you have to ask for it. Takes about 8 minutes to cook. Well worth the wait.

Had take out from Fat Shack on Friday night. I definitely over ordered, as I got some brisket, some pulled pork, some rib tips, and some burnt ends. Oh, and there was only two of us eating. The best of the lot were the burnt ends. They were most flavorful of the group. The only downside was that there was a mixture of beautifully marbled succulent ones, and then some dry as a bone. This may be the luck with traditional burnt ends, as all were good. Second on the list were the rib tips. Again, very flavorful. Reason not ops, is only cause a little fattier than the burnt ends. Third, the brisket. Moist and good. I found the brisket, and the pulled pork lacked in seasoning and smoke. I wished there was more flavor. Fourth was the pulled pork. A little dry(since I had take out and it was an hour to pick up and return before eating definitely may have impacted this). But more so, I found the pulled pork the most bland of them all. Finally, the sauce. I only tasted the mild sauce. It was definitely mild. In fact, probably the most mild bbq sauce I have had at an establishment. It was even a little too mild for me. The next time, I will try the hot to see how hot it is. Overall, while not the greatest bbq ever, it is quite good for Omaha, and I will return.

Stopped by with a friend, for lunch, the other day. Brisket sandwich & brisket chili special. The bottom line is that it was fantastic! I had been to Fat Shack one other time, and it took a long long time to get my food. This time was fast. Whatever was wrong before has been fixed. Thanks — I’ll be back! :-)

All I can say is Shack Attack with bbq brisket(add sausage if you’re feeling saucy) and what more can you ask for?!!

My brother-in-law and my dad went to Fat Shack BBQ a couple weeks ago and I hate to say it, but it was a little underwhelming. Coming from those two, there was a lot of hype built-up so I really wanted this place to be great. The service was friendly and pretty quick for homemade BBQ. The sauces that they provided at every table were pretty dang good as well. I had the two-meat sandwich combo,(I didn’t want a sandwich, just a platter of meat, but I didn’t see any lunch platters, which was odd), and I picked the brisket, burnt ends, and fries as my side. The Brisket was nice and tender and had just the perfect amount of ‘glisten’. It had decent smoke flavor but there’s room for improvement. The burnt ends saved the day. They were extremely flavorful and tender. The fries were limp and didn’t have a lot of crunch. Overall, the food was okay, nothing about it blew me away but it was still good. The prices were pretty on par with what I got.

Me and a buddy from work made our way to Fat Shack this afternoon. I had eaten here before, back when it was a truck outside the Salvation Army next door and was impressed. Today I am elated! And mainly because last time I didn’t have the brisket and this time I did! $$$$$$ Best in the city of Omaha and not close. Place is nice too. Much better than sitting and waiting on the picnic tables outside the Salvation Army.(although I do love stuff like that when it comes to bbq) Very clean… great music. super nice people behind the counter. Only problem I had was that I got the 2 meat combo and got the ribs and brisket. Like I said, the brisket is worth every penny and the 30 minute round trip from work. The ribs though… overdone and they choose not to take the silver skin off. That’s a turnoff for a bbq snob like myself. The flavor was there but they were just a little overdone. Sides: Delicious. Fries and some dynamite macaroni and cheese.(a little paprika in the mac and cheese gave it a real nice subtle smokey flavor) (oh yeah. partner had the sausage and it was delicious too!) Get there. Get the brisket. Shut your mouth.

I really wanted this place to be great… it was just average. The staff is super friendly and almost lead me to giving them 4 stars. But this is about the food. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but knew it needed to have brisket involved since a story I read said this is the best brisket around. I ended up with brisket, pulled pork, brisket chili and okra. I was a little concerned about the okra as I hadn’t tried it before… but the staff directed me to it and it was good. It’s fried, so it’s not like it was going to be horrible or anything. Plus it was lunch and I knew I’d have more food than I bargained for when I order a dinner plate. The brisket and pork were both a bit bland and boring. I wish they had put some pepper or something on it to give it a bit of additional flavor. The pork didn’t have enough smoke, where as the brisket tasted a bit more smokey but lacked the extra smoke, flavor and deepness to make it better. The brisket chili was really good. A nice combo or chili saltiness and good flavor.

I heard about Fat Shack BBQ since they were a plain white truck. I walked into their place, across the street from where they parked their truck before, amazed of how nicely decorated it was. The menu was large with many choices and options. We ordered a pound of briskets with fresh cut fries and a brisket sandwich with homemade potato chips. Both meals came with a pickle, nicely presented in a basket with classic check paper and foil. Fresh cut fries: large cut fries with skin on. The fries tasted fresh, soft and fluffy inside. However, I wish it has a little crunch, just because I prefer my fries crispy. Potato chips: my favorite part of the meal. Very thinly(freshly too!) cut, fried until golden brown, and very crunchy. They tasted fresh and stayed crunchy until my last bite. Delicious! Brisket: The brisket has a nice layer of fat to it, nice and juicy. You can taste the smoke and the rub in every bite. However, this might be the smokiest brisket I have ever tasted and to me it was a little overdone. The smoke overpower the aroma that I expect in slow-smoked brisket. If you like very strong smoke flavor, you would enjoy this brisket. Overall, we were happy with our experience and will definitely come back to try other kinds of meat. Fat Shack is an enjoyable place for any casual meal.

Sped out here a few weekends ago after reading the glowing review in the World-Herald. Happy to say this BBQ joint lived up to the hype. There was a line at the door before noon on a Saturday, and when the doors finally opened I ordered up a brisket sandwich and proceeded to DEVOUR it. Only gripe was that it took a long time for it to be ready, and a bunch of people who ordered after us got their food before us. BUT… I’m a forgiving person, and I know that opening your first brick and mortar can lead to a few kinks that need to be worked out. The owners and staff were super friendly and thankful for our patronage, and they even brought out menus while we waited for the doors to open. I think prices are right on par for what they should be – not nearly as inexpensive as Mark’s Smok’n BBQ in Council Bluffs, but definitely worth a trip. French fries, by the way? Excellent. Fresh cut potato deep fried to a golden brown — legit, ya’ll. And piping hot. Can’t wait to go back to sample the pulled pork and the ribs. Here’s a pro-tip: for some reason I couldn’t find burnt ends anywhere on the menu board or the paper menu. Maybe I missed them. I had read about them in previous reviews for the food truck, but because I didn’t see them on the menu I didn’t order them. Then people after us were ordering them, so I double-checked with the cashier and, sure enough, they still make burnt ends. I’m getting those next time FORSURE. Can’t wait!

The bbq was awesome and authentic! Great smoke flavor and all the meat was tender I had the brisket-very good, ribs-awesome and the spicy sausage-also awesome in the 3 meat combo. Sides: Mac and cheese was creamy yet light and the beans were okay. Overall, being an Omaha native I was impressed the other bbq spots better watch out! Lol I do wish their spicy bbq sauce was actually spicy but it was still tasty!

This little eatery is a hidden gem in North Omaha! It is located in the same strip mall as the DMV and Little Caesar’s on North 30th. We got take out of their Shack Attack nachos, which are like heaven in a styrofoam container! Shredded pork, cheese, BBQ sauce, green onions, and sour cream on top of fries instead of chips. One of the best dishes I’ve tried in a long time. I also ordered the brisket meal, which came with two sides. I chose Mac n cheese and the beans. You know the beans are authentic when they are served from a large kettle! Perfect combination of sweet brown sugar and smoky BBQ flavor. My only minor criticism is the brisket was a bit fatty. My dining companions said the ribs and coleslaw were also very tasty. I’m excited to return for the shrimp. The owner was training new employees and was very in tune with quality control.

Stopped by with a friend to try the burnt ends and fries on a recommendation from a friend. As we exited the car, we could smell the smoke. This is always a good sign of good BBQ ahead. We shared an order of each just in case we were disappointed. We were not! The ends were both moist and crispy at the same time. There was a bit of sauce on them but not enough to detract from the rib flavor. The fries were hand cut and very crispy. The order was a generous portion and easily served both of us. There is a mild and a hot BBQ sauce on the table. We tasted it just to see how it was. The sauces were thin but nice flavor. The hot tasted much like the mild. In fact, we ordered a pound of burnt ends to take home. They warmed up well in the oven on low heat. You order at the counter and pay. They call your number on the receipt when your order is up. The counter person was friendly and the restaurant clean.

I saw that my review was only on the ribs, so since I have been back a number of times, a quick update. I have since tried out the brisket, beans, and Mac N Cheese(and of course more ribs!!). The brisket is as good as the ribs are. A good bit of smoke(a little too much for my wife), and tender as can be! Along with their spicier sauce, I was in heaven! Beans are really good, with big chunks of meat and full of flavor. The Mac N Cheese is equally good. Some of the best I’ve had. Still need to try some more of what they have to offer, but it will be tough, as the ribs and brisket are really difficult not to order…

First off — they have renamed this place«Fat Shack BBQ»(our Moderator has now updated this name change) they said to make it easier to remember than«The BBQ Catfish & Wing Shack» and before that«Swine Dining». I have driven past this place several times this summer and looked it up on Unilocal, but never found any ratings under this name, so I just drove past it. Big mistake. At first I was stunned by the depth of the menu, but once you get a handle on it, it makes sense. They are the home of the famous«Shack Attack» which I looked at in disbelief. Fries smothered with nacho cheese choice of brisket, pulled pork, chicken, spicy sausage or Turkey, topped with sour cream, BBQ sauce and much more. I passed and went for their second most famous, the«Smokin Gun» Brisket and Sausage sandwich, which was perfect. Brisket was moist and tender, smoked sausage was flavorful, hot BBQ sauce just made it better. They have benches under umbrellas, but that really is for your wait, which they give you one of those coaster beepers, the noise from N 30th street sort of takes away(or adds to) the dive ambience, I was 5 deep after my order, but it was well worth the wait. I see several other items I will try in the next few weeks, it is well worth the stop!

Plus: BBQ sauce tasted homemade and was quite tasty. Beef brisket sandwich was on par and delish, served on a toasted bun, which was a nice touch. Minus: Only cash folks, not cool… this is 2014 and it’s kinda inconvenient to run to an ATM to buy lunch. This means two stops for lunch. I mean, I went out of my way to go the R BBQ Shack to be treated differently when I came to payment. Four non-brown customers got to pay when they picked up their completed order. This brown girl had to pay at the time her order was placed. Wow. I’m seriously disappointed to be writing this now after I’ve told anyone who asks for my recommendation for a good BBQ place to go here. I should have guessed I’d be disappointed when I walked up to the window and said in a very friendly, warm tone, «hi how are you?» to the woman in the food truck, only to be greeted back with a monotone response of fine… I got the feeling that she didn’t really want my business. I eaten my last time here, given my last referral to this place; I’ll take mediocre BBQ with good service anytime over apparently deliberate different rules for payment.
