I used to really like this place, but after the last few times I’m really disappointed. They are extremely stingy with the meat/protein. $ 8 for a carnitas burrito that was almost entirely beans and rice. Four bites in and I’m still looking for some meat!!!

Just went from bad to worse. In my previous review, I mentioned the new owner’s drastic reduction of protein in their burritos and salads and making you buy a whole bottle of ghost pepper sauce if you want it spicy. We were hopeful that the review might spur some change and decided to go back and check. Nope — now it’s even worse. So now, if you want rice and beans(50⁄50) with your salad, you have to pay EXTRA for the rice. Seriously??? On the night we went, there was only one person behind the counter handling food and money. Totally slowed things down, not to mention how unsanitary. Yuck.

Just finished eating at this location for the first time. Nothing spectacular about the service but what’s worse was the quality /flavor of the food. I ordered a chicken burrito and couldn’t even finish half of it due to the lack of flavor and dryness of the ingredients. I thought they would have at least been fresh given it was lunch time. Who knows, maybe it was fresh… Yikes. Drove straight to John’s Place down the street in hopes of getting the nasty taste out of my mouth.

This is possibly the worst Chronic Tacos in OC, place is not very clean and the customer service consistently sucks. This is the last time I spend money at this Chronic Tacos

I have been a regular(2 – 3 times a month) here since they opened. Until recently the food has been very good, along with even better service. However, recently I have noticed a great decline in the quality, and availability, of their food. The service continues to be great. My last two visits found them out of carne asada, so I went with my other choice, al pastor. The al pastor here used to be very good, but I don’t know if they changed meat suppliers again, or what, but today’s AP was one of the worst I’ve had(very bland, no other items but the meat). To make things worse, there was a large, eraser head sized, piece of bone that I fortunately did not bite into hard enough to damage or break a tooth. After countless meals here, I am sadly debating if I ever want to return. Update: the quality of the meat has improved! The staff are all excellent as always; however, as a ‘regular’ customer, I have noticed that the size of your serving varies depending on who is helping you. The slightly ‘older’, very friendly and hard working Hispanic gentlemen serves the(by far) smallest portions of meat. I wish someone would tell him he doesn’t have to pay the supplier for the meat.

I came here after school since it was right across the street and I was hungry. I ordered a shrimp burrito, which was a complete disappointment. I asked for grilled shrimp. When the employee brought back the burrito with the shrimp on it i come to find out it only comes with 4 medium sized shrimp. thats right, 4! Shrimp burritos cost a dollar more than regular burritos, when i saw that i didn’t mind because I was under the impression it would have at least a decent amount of shrimp. When i saw it was only 4 it came with it made me double think their reasoning for charging a dollar extra for shrimp, I highly doubt its fresh caught shrimp, or organic or anything else besides frozen shrimp that the keep in the back only to thaw when ordered. Makes me wonder how much fish they use since its a dollar extra for a fish burrito or taco too. I wont be coming back here again, and unless you’re in the mood to get ripped off, I’d suggest you dont either.

Don’t think I’ll be coming back here after poor service! The al pastor meat was good and that’s about it. If you like to create your own plate, you’re better off going to Chipotle. The service here was horrible. Lady behind counter was rude.

The guy who made our order barely gave us any of any item we wanted. It is smallest burrito i have ever gotten from a Chronic tacos. Also, he took the order of some guy who just walked in while talking to us because apparently that guy was a regular. He gave me a whopping 6 jalepeños on my burrito and didn’t even give us our salsa when we made it a combo. Will not be back to this location. I’d give his name, but he had no nametag and he rang us up without logging the other worker off the register.

This place totally went downhill. Super DRY and they really skimp on toppings. The last time I was there, the girl charged me over $ 5 extra and couldn’t explain why.

No Bueno. Meat is dry and has no flavor. Well, beyond dry — some was burned dry. Some of the meat was literally inedible. The sauce on the wet burrito — also not good. Taco shells from a container. Taquitos fried so hard you might break a tooth. Don’t bother. I wonder if the entire franchise is like this. There are MANY better places for awesome authentic Mexican food within a couple miles.

Idk why I keep getting big orders. Well it’s only been twice since I’ve been here now so I’ll try something smaller next time. The staff is nice, especially that one guy. Didn’t seemed annoyed with my incompetence and had a pleasant demeanor. The price of my orders I’ve had were unexpected with the amount you get. That being said, let’s just say I was gawking. It’s my fault for ordering the big portions and not knowing that guacamole costs extra when it said on the board obviously stated with those big letters, but I was too busy in cloud 9. –I’d definitely come back, but for basic stuff that aren’t costly. Just a quick snack before going back to class

Got a chicken taco salad and, maybe I ordered the wrong thing but it was very very meh. Not bad, but chipotle tastes better in my opinion

Just got back from getting takeout and unfortunately got fish instead of the shrimp I requested. Order details: –Burrito meal with extra carne asada, guacamole, all the salsas, rice, and beans. –2 beer battered shrimp tacos Baja style(Baja sauce on the side) –Extra Side of beans Hubby said the Burrito was delicious, and he’s pretty particular about burritos. I love the shrimp tacos at chronic, but upon getting home, opening the tacos(which I had been craving all day, but as a teacher I don’t have time to drive to Chronic for lunch) I realized they were FISH tacos, not shrimp. Not a great surprise for someone who doesn’t like fish. Sadly, I was disappointed that I didn’t get the shrimp I’d been craving. Hubby asked why I didn’t notice when I was there, but you see, they make the beer battered food in the back and when you put it on the tortilla and add cabbage etc on top, it’s hard to notice. Next time I will look at the food as it comes out of the kitchen before I let them dress it with the other items. Not a deal breaker for Chronic. I have been many times and they are always super helpful and accommodating. This was a simple order so. I’m surprised it was hard for them to distinguish between shrimp and fish.

#100Reviews2015 — Review No. 40 Yes, we’re nearly in October, and I’m only at review 40 of 100. Hey — life happens, right? Anywho, back to this review. 5 stars for a taco joint? A chain taco joint? Well hell yes, 5 stars. 5 stars for good food, but more than anything, stellar service. The roomies and I stopped in, noticed that they were kind of closed looking, but I pulled on the door and asked if they were still open. The nice guy behind the counter said they were closing, but he’d be happy to help us out. Went in, placed our order, and the guy more than delivered, giving us the fat tacos we so clearly needed. I introduced myself and met Todd, the assistant manager, who was helping us out. Like I said, nice guy, amazing customer service skills. Thanks so much for staying open for us and delivering on some great food, with a smile. Pro tip: ask for your tacos baja style, and request no sauces except the pico de gallo and a squeeze of lime — delicious, and vegan if you do the tacos with beans, either black or pinto.

My impression is that it’s a mix of chipotle and wahoo’s fish tacos. The staff was friendly and helpful since it was my first time here. The ambience is very relaxed and chill. The décor is that of wahoo’s and has tons of surfing images. Also very clean. I got a carne asada and pollo asado burrito. The tortilla was heated up and I told them load it up how they thought it would be good. The meat was moist and flavorful, as good if not better than chipotle. The rice and beans were tasty. The lettuce was fresh. I loved the cheese, salsa and guac. The baja sauce was awesome. The chips were fresh, thin, crispy, perfectly salted, and not at all greasy. The staff recommended their medium salsa. It was green and had a nice roasted flavor. Not your average green salsa. Definitely coming back as it wasn’t crazy busy, was reasonably priced and very tasty. Also they play great alternative rock. I heard Cold War Kids and Young the Giant, both from Orange County: Fullerton and Irvine, respectively.

I understand why this place is rated as so but honestly I love it for exactly what it is… Americanized Mexican Food with cool, trendy marketing & employees who seem to love their job. It caters to those who have a big appetite, love big portions & have a need to customize it exactly as desired. Depending on what you order, you may or may not get the best flavor but if you make it just right… it’s always muy bueno. On top of that, all the people at this location seem to be extremely friendly(not all locations… never felt the same vibe from the location in Irvine). First couple times it was an older guy, I was asking about their new ghost pepper hot sauce & he just gave me a bottle… I was stoked…& it is good. Last time I went, Taha was the dude helpin me out, reminded me of Cody from ‘Step By Step,’ awesome guy & actually helped my breakfast bowl even more by suggesting a crispy shell. If you want a large amount of good food for a decent price, go here. I will be back…

I had 30 mins before my next class started so I went across the street so I can grab a quick bite. This was my 1st time here and I’m so glad I came, the staff was very friendly and the food was so yummy! There and back from school took a total of 10 mins, there was no line so it was fast. Kind of set up like chipotle so don’t wait in front of the register. I got the handheld burrito half asada and al pastor for $ 5.11 with my student discount. I will def be back next time I’m hungry before class!(:

For what you want out of order at counter, make in front of you type Mexican food, this place is top notch. Even better than other locations. Friendly guys, nice and cool inside. They have Monster drinks or those spanish ones too. Just no beer/wine. yet. They have California burrito with fries option now and a hand held burrito that’s you’ll be able to finish in one sitting.

This was the latest experiment in my never-ending quest for a great breakfast burrito. I must say, I was very pleased. Flavors were on point. There are two sizes, handheld and regular. The handheld was enough for me, and the bigger one would be good to share. I’ve also gone for taco Tuesday, which is fabulous and a lot of food for very little money. The service is very friendly and fast. The place is clean. The décor is such that you feel like you’re an extra in a ‘90s era Sublime music video, bro. It’s fun.
