Tonight an old friend and I met a the Redfish Grille in Orange. We sat at the bar. They have happy hour drink and appetizer specials from 4 to 7. Some of the wines and apps. are $ 5. We ordered the calamari and it was cooked just right and was plenty for 2 people as an app. They served us a loaf of fresh baked bread with oil(butter is available). For dinner we both had the seafood chiop… over pasta which was on the specials list. It was large and had plenty of lobster; scallops; shrimp and mussels in it and the sauce was wonderful. Neither one of us could finish more than half and took the rest home. We will be returning again as everything was great. The bartender Jessica was very attentive and accomadating. My only complaint is that the drink prices are higher than other places on the Post Rd. The owner as it turns out was the original owner of the Red River Grille, which was the original restaurant that was there.

I have been here several times and it never disappoints. Good service and the atmosphere is relaxing. Prices are also very reasonable.

Lobser roll was over cooked. Bun was very good. Burger was over cooked and under seasoned. Salmon over cooked and under seasoned. Jasmine rice was just rice. Décor was felt like a diner.

My first Connecticut lobster roll! The bun was lightly toasted, the lobster was great, and it came with a side of warm butter, coleslaw and I chose salad instead of fries. They carry foxon park sodas. I recommend the white birch. The atmosphere is very relaxed with chill music ranging from oldies like Elton john to more modern but laid back tunes. Server was very friendly. Some people may want to bring a light sweatshirt with them as the ceiling fans can make it a little chilly at times.

Nice, comfortable environment where the waiters were friendly and the food was on point. The drinks were very satisfying… For the amount or food the prices are good … This was my first time here but was very pleased with the service.

this was my first visit to redfish but definitely wont be my last! this place is the go to for seafood in the new haven/orange area. i left this place fully satisfied! having a craving for shrimp redfish quickly satisfied that. i also had sides of grilled asparagus nd coleslaw. the asparagus was AMAZING. to quench our thirst my boyfriend and I had the flirtini nd white sangria, the bartender did a great job on those. how often does one leave a restaurant with no complaints abt the food or service? job well done redfish! our server was also very nice nd checked in on frequently… until we meet again redfish

Second visit to the restaurant… after a very good first visit. This time we brought special friends who had never been there, are mostly fish eaters and live locally. I hate recommending places to dine but we had had such a good experience the first time. This time proved to be truly horrific. We came in at 6 pm on Friday night and were seated immediately. A very very nice young, well trained waiter attended to us quickly. We were delighted to find one of the specials was stuffed lobster tail and both my husband and I ordered it. Our guests ordered tilapia and salmon. When the food arrived my husband commented that the potatoes were dry, as they had been the last time we were there. The roasted asparagus were thinner than a shoelace(an au courant food pretension), but tasty. If you saw them in the market you wouldn’t buy them. But none of this was so bad that we wouldn’t come back again. When we began to address the lobster we realized it had not been cooked… at all. We hailed our waiter, who immediately returned it to the kitchen. And then came back to apologize saying that the chef said we were absolutely correct… they had not been cooked! But… they would cook two more and it would only be a short time. My husband had ordered soup so he was less hungry than I. We told our guests to eat or their fish would get cold. About 20 minutes later, after the couple we were with had finished eating, our waiter, who had been over to apologize several times,(who was genuinely concerned but should not have been placed in the position to have to deal with this issue all by himself… where was the host/hostess, chef, owner?) approached the table to offer us free dessert(we had not gotten our entrees back yet. this was not a reasonable make-up offer). Who had told him to do this… and why didn’t they come over to speak with us instead of putting that young man in such an awkward position? Since nothing else seemed to be forthcoming as an apology, I immediately offered it to the other couple who were long finished with their meal. When the wait began to seem more than unreasonable I asked my husband if he wanted to leave as we were all going to an outdoor event and wanted to get there before the light faded… it was now nearly 8 pm! Just then the lobsters came out. We bolted them down, paid the $ 55, left the waiter a decent tip(not his fault) and departed. No one said anything to us when we exited the restaurant. Nothing was taken off the bill, no appetizers were offered while we waited, no manager came over to speak with us. I had ordered a coke and even that was put on the bill… all around bad form. And a foolish way to run a restaurant. A relaxing dining experience ruined, not by bad food… but by bad management. The mistake was in the way we were treated. We won’t be going back. And I’ll bet the other couple won’t go again either… and they have many local friends whom they will likely tell about this first experience. A big and costly mistake for Red Fish. If the owner wasn’t there on a Friday night he should have had someone with authority and grace to represent him.

Ate here for the first time this evening with my husband and we liked it very much. The clam chowder wasn’t as temperature hot as he likes it and they quickly remedied the situation. I had the beet and goat cheese salad and a seared tuna over Asian slaw appetizer with a side of grilled asparagus and it was delicious and I was full. People who are used to Maryland crab cakes should never order crab cakes out of state. I’m not sure what possessed my husband to order them tonight. So while he said he’d definitely return here, he won’t be ordering the crab cakes next time! This is not a chain but a family owned business.

Had a great meal here. I got the crab stuffed sole and my wife got the seafood combo. Both were excellent and cooked very well. Also had the calamari which comes with an excellent chipotle aioli dipping sauce. Also the bread is amazing. Id go back here just for that! Service was also very good.

My parents and I came here on a Saturday night around 8pm; we had no trouble grabbing a table! The hostess was pleasant however our waitress was pretty rude– she continuously hurried us, didn’t completely answer my questions and overall seemed like she just didn’t care. It honestly didn’t bother me too much once the food came! My parents both had fresh fish, and I had the corn chowder soup. I was surprised at the amount of spice in the soup but it was enjoyable and my parents loved their fish and chips! Overall, I would come back again.

Second visit to this restaurant. Was pleased once again. This could be a regular stop for reasonably priced and appropriately portioned dinners. I had Beet and Goat cheese salad with grilled salmon. Fish was done perfectly, as was the amount of dressing which I usually request on the side. Very filling and pleasing. My husband had a special… surf and turf. Perfectly grilled shrimp and scallops on a skewer, and nice size fillet. He said the beef was very tender and good quality and fish was excellent. Two sides were freshly prepared veggie medly(broccoli, carrots, squash), and side of grilled asparagus. Forgot to mention the freshly baked bread before our meals, with garlic and olive oil for dipping. Dessert was a huge apple cobbler with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce. Delicious! Waitress was very attentive, and the restaurant had a decent crowd for anew restaurant. Anxious to see if word gets around. If you are looking for a casual night out for dinner at a place that you will receive good food at a decent price, this is it. Has been consistent so far… two for two. Highly recommend.

I had dinner at the bar while on a business trip. Randy the bartender was very friendly as were the servers who came by to chat. They have a creative drink menu that caters to women. The parrot was tasty and refreshing. I ordered the sea bass with a lemon garlic sauce. It was light, fresh and delicious. The Mac-n-cheese was the best I have ever eaten. I am on the road traveling a lot. A restaurant is typically average but this one wowed me. I will be back and I highly recommend!

I went here with a friend as we were driving around endlessly trying to fin a restaurant that served something we could agree on. That being said, we ended up here. It is a nice sized place and the staff are were very friendly. We ordered salad and a bunch of appetizers. The food was all very fresh and tasty. I was happy to see that they also had a full bar, which we took advantage of. The prices are reasonable and they are in a high traffic neighborhood. Certianly I would come back here if I was in the neighborhood.

First off, Jessica is an awesome server! I had just arrived in town and stopped to eat before checking into the hotel. She was pleasant and welcoming. I ordered full belly clams which I had not had since I last lived in New England over 50 years ago. For some reason they don’t seem to be served outside of New England. They were delicious and much as I remember them. The fries were not as good as the«pub style» fries that I had with them those years ago. Since I’ll be here for about 2 weeks and the restaurant is about 2 – 3 minutes away from the hotel, I’ll likely stop in and try some of their other seafood options. I’ll look for Jessica again.

Stopped in for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. This is a great seafood restaurant. I had the Scotland Salmon in lemon caper sauce with mushroom ravioli and spinach. Service was casual which was fine with me since I wasn’t in a hurry and wanted a leisurely lunch. Orange finally hit the nail on the head with this restaurant. The past diners cannot compete with Chips which is very close by. Will try it again for dinner. The menu is pretty much the same but adds more fish entrees.

We went for dinner during the week, around 7pm. There was only one occupied table in the dining room. There’s a choice of sitting in the main dining area or bar area. We opted for a high top table at the bar, we were the only ones there. The bartender was doubling as the waiter and was extremely friendly. The service was prompt(again, we were the only ones there) and our food arrived relatively fast(again skewed as we were the only ones there). We started with the crab cakes were very delicious– perfect flavoring and the right amount of crisp on the outside which left me very hopeful for my entrée. The only down side was the crab cakes come with salad which was drenching in dressing. Entrée was lobster roll for me, pan seared ahi tuna salad for him. My lobster was extremely over cooked and the bread was stale and too hard to be edible. There were a lot of crumbled pieces of lobster and a few meaty pieces. His salad was over dressed and the ahi tuna was COLD. You could tell this tuna was just sitting in a fridge, it was not pan seared. It was ice cold and had ZERO flavor. Orange is in need of a good and casual seafood place. I would say this would be a better option for appetizers and a few drinks, but I can’t even recommend that as they had only 4 beers on tap. There’s a lot of good restaurants in the Orange area that provide good seafood options(Ola, Puerto) but we don’t have a good place for a lobster roll, you have to travel to West Haven or Milford for that. My quest for good seafood in Orange continues as the lack of flavor and stale/old quality of food has left me looking elsewhere.

Great seafood selection and portions, but somewhat pricy compared to the well-established restaurants. Note that their website shows a lunch menu, but they give us the dinner menu at noon, so heads up. Prices range from a $ 7 scrod sandwich to a $ 27 Chilean Sea Bass, but average around $ 17. For lunch, I ate a very tasty wild-caught Scottish Salmon with lemon olive oil, rice, and veggies. Go figure the fish was cooked perfectly, but the broccoli was undercooked. No big deal. I also tried my the Jambalaya which was very good and just spicy enough; the lobster roll is perfect; the claim chowder was pretty thick, but tasty; and the corn & crab chowder was thinner and had an off-flavor like lemon. For a two-month-old restaurant I was impressed. I hope they incorporate the lunch menu because not many people want to pay dinner prices for lunch.

After seeing restaurant after restaurant in the space now occupied by Redfish Grill, I couldn’t help but be less than enthused when I saw a new one opening/The few reviews I did see piqued my interests, so tonight, we tried it and were all thrilled at the results. Redfish Grill is a treasure! The food is fresh and plentiful! The service terrific. Grilled scallops and shrimp on skewers with a mango salsa, one of several sauce choices, was cooked to perfection and the grilled asparagus side was superb. The $ 6 kids meal of fried cod and veggies was enormous and wonderful. Fresh cod, not frozen, flaky and delicious. The seafood casserole was so full of fresh seafood, it was impossible to order dessert, which we’ll be sure to try next time in. I hope Redfish stays around and the people of Orange flock to this new treasure.
