I’ve never had a dining experience like this. We had a 7 pm seating and arrived at 6:30 to enjoy a cocktail. We walked in and felt like we were having dinner at a friends home. The small bar was located upstairs. There were three different areas to sit and wait before dinner. There was an outside patio where some people were smoking. There was an area by the bar that seated 4 – 5 couples. Then a separate room across the hall upstairs that seated a lot more. Dinner started and we were able to have our purses left on at our table as we walked to the wine cellar. Our glasses were filled with champagne as we walked in and enjoyed DELICIOUS appetizers. From caviar to pâté to a cheese dish and multiple spreads, we couldn’t get enough! We picked a Bordeaux for dinner and it was brought to our table. EAT as much of the appetizers as possible because they are delicious and disappear fast! We enjoyed every course. It was pricey but worth every penny! 3 cocktails a $ 123 bottle of wine and two dinners cost around $ 422 after a generous tip.

I have enjoyed The Hobbit on several occasions, and have never been disappointed. Now, I would like to respond to a past review by Melissa L. She had no complaints about the restaurant, food or service. Her complaint was about another customer ruining her evening. She got what she wanted, the restaurant invited her back to their restaurant, and yet she still bashed the restaurant with a 2 star, highly unprofessional of someone who claims to be in the hospitality industry.

Best birthday dinner EVER! I’ve been meaning to review this since November but even 6 months later I can vividly remember each amazing course. They start you off in the wine cellar with free flowing sparkling wine and classy appetizers. There was caviar, foie gras, cheeses, and many other delights. You’re seated at your table and then the experience really begins. Each course is enough to truly enjoy and savor the flavors, but they don’t let you fill up either. The timing is great, you don’t feel rushed but you don’t get restless between courses. They had a special dessert for me, and the after dinner drinks were delightful as well. I would definitely(and have) recommend this experience to everyone!

Let me start off by saying I have waited a week for a response for their management. Now they followed up once, but after the initial contact no reply. I came here with my husband for our One Year Anniversary dinner. The story behind that is that we went to New Zealand on our honeymoon and the Hobbit was filmed there so this was an homage to our honeymoon. I made reservations a month before our anniversary and informed them of our vegetarian dietary restriction. The chefs did a great job with that. The food was creative and delicious. The ambiance, unfortunately, was ruined by a couple having a flat out fight next to our table. The fight started off quite at first with the tone eventually leading to screaming and cursing and threats of calling the police. My husband and I noticed the tone of their conversation changing after the first course. It blew up right at the end of intermission! Now I understand a couple fighting is out of the manger’s control, however the management should have done something to make sure everyone else’s experience wasn’t effected. As soon as my husband and I were told about intermission we bolted out the room since we did not want to be witnesses to the couple’s fighting. We sat outside with a couple celebrating their 47th anniversary and then were told by staff that intermission was ending and to join them inside. Upon sitting down the women fighting with her spouse was cursing and screaming at him. This was followed by her storming upstairs like a pissed off teen as she demanded her spouse leave with her. He ran off after her and then they left. Now after calling the restaurant the next day to inform them what happened I let them know how disappointed I was with the lack of urgency they showed with intervening and salvaging everyone else night. I mean this was by far the most we have spent on a meal and this was a very special occasion we were celebrating. After explaining myself to the manager about what I wished would have happened, which would have been to have them talk to them when everyone was out during the intermission. He informed me that he did ask them to leave. However to my knowledge they were already leaving at the point he spoke with them. At this point I myself felt to much anxiety because of what went down. I could not truly enjoy the experience. Then he went on to tell me he was a VIP and spent $ 1,700 on a bottle of wine that night. I feel like he was justifying the fact that they did nothing because the guy clearly spent more money than me and my husband. I, myself work in the hospitality industry and I know how hard it is to speak with an upset guest, or at that an inebriated guest, but we in the hospitality industry have to bite the bullet and do it for the sake of everyone else. I know others felt uncomfortable too, I don’t know if any others voiced it, but I could see the side eye as they cursed and cause a commotion. The manager offered me a free meal if we come back. He said he’s add it to my profile and I told him thank you. After sleeping on it I called back to ask if I could get a gift certificate for the meal that was promised and never heard back. I personally don’t think we will come back due to the lack of response. I feel like if they offer the free meal I should be able to have proof of it in my hand or do what I want with it. They must not feel the same way and honestly they probably don’t give a sh*t. I mean I only spent $ 300 compared to their VIP who spent $ 2,000 to cause a scene and ruin everyone else’s special night.

This place is so unique and truly a wonderful experience. My hubby brought me here for a birthday surprise! What a treat. The house is adorable… Sitting outside in the sweet garden patio with a cocktail makes you feel like you’re on vacation! The appetizers in the cellar are delicious and in such a fun setting! The wines are lovely and the food delicious! It is pricy, but totally worth the experience!

Perhaps the best all-around dining experience I’ve ever had. From the setting to the service to the food … I have absolutely no complaints, quibbles, or minor annoyances to share. It was a perfect evening out The hors d’oeuvres and champagne that start the evening were plentiful and varied. Every one I tried was unique and delicious. I have no idea what some were – loved a filled date, a spicy onion jam(I think) on toast, a cucumber half-slice with caviar and cream cheese(my best guess). Some were sweet, most were savory, and all were delicious. The salmon with Israeli couscous with cioppino sauce was a favorite, but the next course, duck, was my favorite of the entire meal. A grand evening was enjoyed by the four in our party as well as everyone at the Hobbit that night, it seemed. Don’t miss this experience!

Fun experience! We attended on 5⁄20 and did the wine pairings with our food. The appetizers in the wine cellar prior to our meal were awesome. There was a private party in the wine cellar that night, however the host still took us down there during intermission so we could take a picture. Overall, the food was very good and it was a fun night!

Not a lot of restaurants that I have been to have set the bar high for me as The Hobbit has. Experience is definitely my favorite part but also the attention to detail on each plate. The cellar was definitely my favorite part and really enjoyed being able to walk into the kitchen to observe them making her food. I truly enjoy the atmosphere they have created at this place. How do you recommend bringing a date, family from out of town, or clients. This beautiful restaurant definitely gets five stars for me.

I wanted to badly come to The Hobbit and when I did with a friend and his girlfriend I found out that all the meals are FIXED. So if you have any allergies or… lets say you don’t eat pork or meat… you’re SOL. They charge $ 7 extra for fish… the plates are ultra-petite in my opinion and it’s really rather silly how there’s not enough variety for either vegetarians or people who don’t eat say pork. There’s not many real choices and to pay $ 86 per person knowing the lack of flexibility just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The entrée was OK when we went(beef wellington) but a lot of the times their main entrees are ridiculous for the price. A mushroom-stuffed filet mignon… that’s it? It’s not even like a 8 Oz filet… overall I would have much better elsewhere. Sorry not sorry but there needs to be a lot more flexibility than a fixed menu and just«take what we give you» attitude. Or at least something on the website needs to say«Need special accommodations?» Though I imagine they’d charge $ 80 extra just for that if they charge $ 8 extra for a simple fish dish sub!

My man and I came to The Hobbit last night for a special occasion. We had made reservations almost 2 months in advance and were excited when the day finally arrived. The Hobbit is a lovely, inviting, and classic house-turned-restaurant. Definitely show up ONTIME if not earlier. We came about 15 minutes before our dinner and were able to mingle with some of the other guests on the patio. TIP1: The Hobbit is a very social dining experience. Be prepared to get acquainted with the fellow guests, the staff, the chef. There are many opportunities and plenty of time set apart from the actual dinner to mingle and tour the house for yourself. On the same token, because you will be sharing space with the same people for 3 – 3.5 hours, let’s hope you’re not sitting next to some loud obnoxious guests who have had too much to drink…(yep, that was us. Not ‘us’ as in we were the drunk ones, but, yeah. Table across from us. It was a little annoying). At 7pm you are invited, along with everyone else, to come down to the basement for champagne and hors d’oeuvres. You walk down with your empty champagne glass and the staff at the bottom offers to pour you champagne left and right as you run out. It’s magical. I had read from other Unilocalers before coming that it’s a bad idea to fill up on the delicious hors d’oeuvres before your meal. I beg to differ! Honestly, I read reviews advising to starve yourself the entire day before your dinner at The Hobbit, and I don’t think that is ATALL necessary. While it is «a lot» of food, each plate is served in an extremely petite portion. You can do it. Trust me. TIP2: Go nuts wit the hors d’oeuvres! They are small and easy to pop in your mouth. Personal favorites were the beef tartare and cucumber with caviar. The basement-turned-wine cellar was one of the most impressive spectacles, in my opinion. From there you have the option to choose a bottle of wine with your meal; wines range from $ 50-$$$$ thousands per bottle. It’s all very exciting and bewildering, but the good news is the staff is more than happy to help you or answer any questions you may have. We ended up going with just a glass of their house Pinot Noir of the night(did NOT choose a bottle from the cellar). My man and I had 3 glasses between us 2. Later on our tab, we saw that the 3 glasses cost over $ 50. TIP3: If you’re deciding between ordering a glass of the house wine or a bottle to share, just go with the bottle. 3 individual glasses easily = 1 bottle. I’m not sure how much time passed, but it was the perfect amount of time before most of the hors d’oeuvres were cleared out and we were called up as a group to take our seats for dinner. The dining hall set up is very formal and elegant. Candles, flowers, silverware, furniture. Tables are separated by groups/couples, but set very close to one another. It truly feels as if you have been invited to someone’s home and they are hosting a lavish dinner party. To start we had a seared diver scallop over couscous and a sweet corn sauce. As expected, it was cooked to perfection and we devoured that dish in about 30 seconds. TIP4: We didn’t necessarily feel stuffed because it was an abnormal amount of food. Instead, it was the long wait time between each dish that caused us to feel full. The dinner at The Hobbit is a 3 hour dining experience because there is a 20+ minute wait time in between each dish. I would say the guests who enjoyed themselves the most were the ones who came in groups and were very very drunk. It makes the time pass faster. I could go on and on about the food, but here are the main points I want to communicate: 1. Each dish is served in a very very small portion. Sure, it was a «7» course meal; 2 of which consisted of one bite of sorbet and one diver scallop. 2. Each dish is cooked to perfection in terms of aromas, textures, flavors. You can count on that! 3. Favorite part was the almond cake dessert with candied apricots, housemade apricot ice cream, and Italian meringue. Least favorite was the green apple and fennel salad with the roquefort dressing. Not a huge fan of that dressing. Very blue-cheesy and yeasty. The bill was hefty but we were glad to have experienced dinner at The Hobbit. TIP5: We are in our early-mid twenties and were definitely the youngest people there.

One day while driving back from Orange I noticed this little restaurant tucked away called The Hobbit. I had remember seeing it on Unilocal and how amazing it was according to my fellow Unilocalers. So for Van D.‘s birthday dinner I made reservations here. There’s a 40 dollar deposit for the reservations but they will subtract it from the final bill at the end of the night. We arrived a bit early to catch the bar area. I followed Van’s lead and went with the old fashion which was a pretty good start. The bar area is located upstairs. There’s a bunch of couches to sit upstairs but we opted to sit outside at the patio area because it was such a lovely day. When 7pm hits is when they start guiding everyone down to the wine cellar for some wine/champagne and hors d’oeuvres. I love the set up a lot. A neat table stationed right at the middle with so many delicious hors d’oeuvres. From the tomato soup, to the pâté, to the meat skewers and the cucumbers too, everything was solid and amazing. We hung out at the cellar while they prepared the table and opted for the Sommelier Pairing. It pairs each course with a different glass of wine. When they table was ready we went upstairs to the dining hall. The scene was marvelous. I especially loved the rose shaped butter for the complimentary bread that they served to start. Then the courses began. We started with the Seared Diver Scallop with Sweet Corn Sauce and Israeli Couscous & Chive Oil. First bite and I knew this was gonna be a lovely dinner. The scallops were cooked beautifully. The corn sauce added great texture to the dish too. They paired this dish with the 2014 Joseph Swan. This was followed by the Smoked Maple Leaf Duck Breast with Tart Cherry, Port & Sage Reduction accompanied by Jasmine Rice. I was super excited to see this dish as I had tasted some good duck in so long. This was definitely one of my favorite dishes of the night but truthfully they were all amazing. The duck meat was so tender. The jasmine rice was cooked perfectly and the tart cherries were delicious too. This was paired with the 2013 Albert Bichot. The meal before Intermission was the Shaved Green Apple & Fennel Salad topped with Blistered Tear Drop Tomatoes and Roquefort Dressing. I actually like this dish simply for that bacon tasting thing on top. The apples were great and the dressing was quite the compliment to the salad. After this meal was intermission where you can lounge and hang out either upstairs, patio, or kitchen. We checked out the kitchen but it was just ok, since the chef wasn’t here on this particular day. Came back to the amazing palate cleansing sorbet that was simply marvelous. It was a mango sorbet, super simple yet super tasty. I was extremely refreshed for the entrée now. The Entrée Filet Mignon cooked medium rare. I’m stoked this was one heck of a piece of meat. The meat was so tender it just came right off the plate and into my taste buds. It was accompanied by carrots and radish? I believe. Nonetheless, it was a superb dish. You can’t really go wrong with a good piece of steak especially when its cooked to perfection here. They paired this dish was the 2010 Château Saint Ahon. Lastly, how can I forget dessert. They served an almond cake with housemade apricot ice cream and Italian meringue & Candied Apricots. So heavenly. The ice cream was… I’m running out of descriptions. Its out of this world delicious. The cake was so good too. This was paired with the 2012 Château Pineau du Rey. They also served my friend a complimentary dessert for her birthday which was a chocolate truffle whip cream dessert. The truffles were actually really delicious and I’m not usually big on truffles to begin with but I was quite impressed. Overall, I have to tip my hat to The Hobbit for putting on one stellar dining experience especially for my awesome friend’s birthday. From start to finish, they were on point from the get go. The service was outstanding, the ambiance and décor was lovely. The dishes were all incredible with everything tasting amazing. It exceeded my expectations for sure. 100⁄10 says I will return. Definitely worth the money! Make a reservation asap! PS Private Lot Parking, no valet necessary

The Hobbit is a quaint little gem that provides a fun intimate dining experience($ 86/person). With the menu changing on a weekly basis, each experience is unique and you will be pleasantly surprised with their culinary innovations. I actually never heard of the Hobbit before until my buddy Truong T. made reservations here for my birthday dinner. I recommend coming slightly before 7pm to enjoy their full bar located on the 2nd floor. It gives you a chance to enjoy the intimate setting before more people arrive. We started off with 2 Old Fashioned. The bartender adds your drink orders to the table so you don’t have to worry about paying until the end of the night. Just give them your last name. At 7pm they start letting you down the wine cellar. Each person gets a champagne flute and a list of the evening’s menu to help with your wine choosing. Everyone was really nice. Truong T. got convinced on getting the Sommelier Pairing(additional $ 45/person) which comes with 4 different glasses of wine that pairs perfectly with the courses throughout the night. Also in the cellar was a table of cute little Hors d’Oeuvres to enjoy with our champagne. My favorites were the pâté, stuffed dates and tomato soup. The little Hors d’Oeuvres were all so fun and delightful, it was a great start to the night. My champagne glass was refilled like 3 times so that was a definite plus. It was quite a smooth transition as they began to redirect us to our tables. The complimentary bread with the impressive rose shaped butter is not considered one of the courses so don’t fill yourself up with too much bread. For our seafood appetizer, we had the Seared Diver Scallops on a bed of Israeli Couscous in a sweet corn sauce. The scallop was cooked perfectly and it was so juicy and light. The pairing for this appetizer was the 2014 Joseph Swan which is a light white that was delicate enough not to overpower the scallop’s flavors. The next appetizer was a Smoked Maple Leaf Duck Breast over Jasmine Rice. The duck was so moist and not at all gamey. It was perfect. The maple flavors complimented the duck breast. This was paired with the 2013 Albert Bichot which is a dry medium bodied red that goes well with poultry. Then we had the loveliest salad, a Shaved Green Apple and Fennel Salad with Blistered Teardrop Tomatoes and topped with what looks like a fancy piece of bacon. The salad was light and refreshing. I really like the texture of the apples sliced up and the tomatoes were so savory and addicting! I can eat this everyday! Next was an intermission between the meal where everyone got up to use the restroom, visit the bar, hang out in the patio or speak with the chef. Sadly the chef and his wife were away on a fundraiser on the night we visited. We were still allowed to look at the kitchen, but it felt a bit anticlimactic. I would love to come back soon to speak with them about the food… and of course to eat more of this amazing food! When we returned to our seats, everything had been cleared and replaced by new dinnerware. We were given a palette cleansing mango sorbet. Considering I don’t even like mango, I really love this sorbet. I would have liked a bigger scoop, but I’m sure they didn’t want to spoil our appetite for the main course. The entrée of the night was a medium rare Filet Mignon with sauce solferino. It was a perfect medium rare with baby carrots and other veggies. The plate was so vibrant and so delicious. This came with the 2010 Château Saint Ahon which is a firm body red. It was a great pairing with the filet mignon. For dessert we had an Almond Cake topped with house made Apricot Ice Cream. The Almond Cake was slightly dry but it was easily remedied by the ice cream it came with. This came with the 2012 Château Pineau du Rey. This delicate white is good with sweet desserts so in that sense it was a good pairing, but I don’t like drinking whites after already drinking reds. In addition to the dessert from the meal, I also got a complimentary birthday dessert! It was a friendly crowd and many celebrations going on. The dessert was truffle balls on top of whip cream. The truffles were good. With lovely service, amazing food and fancy wine to pair, The Hobbit is now one of my favorite restaurants. I feel a bit bourgeoisie after such a lavishing experience. Although it may sound a bit excessive, the size of each course is reasonable so you don’t leave feeling uncomfortably stuffed. This place is perfect for birthdays, anniversaries or any celebrations. I wouldn’t mind coming back for no occasion at all. It is worth the splurge!

What an epic night! My hubs made dinner reservations to celebrate my birthday and we both had no idea what the night had in store for us. We arrived promptly at 7PM and were greeted at the door by some of the staff who welcomed us warmly. A server handed us each an empty champagne flute and guided us downstairs to the wine cellar for champagne and hors d’oeuvres. As we entered cellar, another server greeted us and filled our flutes with champagne. There were two stationed tables full of tasty appetizers. We lingered around the stations while looking around in awe at the ceiling to floor walls full of wine bottles. The head chef was also in sight greeting tonight’s diners and conversing with them. One of the servers offered to refill our glasses and informed us that if we’d like wine with our dinner that now was the time to inform them. We had a choice of selecting a bottle(s) from the cellar or the sommelier parings, which consisted of 4 wines paired with 4 of the 6 dinner courses. After some time, the servers informed all guests that dinner was ready to be served and up we went. It was a 6 course dinner including intermission. The dinner menu changes each evening, so returning for another enjoyable evening is always a possibility. The staff was amazing and super helpful. They were there to refill glasses before we even noticed it needed a refill. They were great at answering questions we had and very knowledgeable about the wine and dinner being served. The food was delicious and so satisfying. My steak was cooked to perfection. The fish melted in your mouth like butter. The wine pairings with each course was so fitting. The combination of quality food, wine, service and ambiance made the night epic!

This is an entire 3 to 3.5 hour dining experience, just as described. And it’s a really impressive 3 hours with great wine and food, which is reflected with the price. If I remember correctly, the entire experience was about $ 90 per person, not including drinks or wine. It’s a bit hard to find and you may easily pass this restaurant. Just turn where your navigation tells you to and the very large parking lots connect to the restaurant. You enter under an authentic looking rot iron«Hobbit» sign into a nice open patio. The restaurant is basically in an old, old house — almost entirely designed to be themed after the movie series. Arrive early so you can walk up to the second floor bar room(old bedroom) and grab a drink. I had the best mojito I’ve ever had in my life here. Expect $ 13 to $ 16 per drink. You then are called downstairs with your dining group — all the way down into the cellar, to enjoy an entire table of d’oeuvres to choose from. Enjoyable 20 minutes. Then you head back to the main floor for dinner. The bread was OK. The salad was a mix of spinach and fruit mix which was also ok. Next came quail stuffed with cous cous. This was an excellent dish as the two paired together with the sauce perfectly. Not sure I’ve ever had quail before but this made me a fan. The main was also incredible. We had Cote de Boeuf with charcoal roasted shallots. This was an extremely flavorful piece of beef and perfectly tender. The shallots couldn’t have been better, great texture and flavor. The dessert was a chocolate(mouse?) cake which was good, not excellent but moist and as expected. Overall this is a great experience and while it make a great date night for two, I think this experience is more enjoyed in groups or 4 or 6 since there are social pieces to the whole evening.

This establishment is the antithesis to the sterile chain restaurants that at their best can only offer pedestrian luxury without soul. I only wish there were more places like this in Orange County. The food and service were good all around. The experience was eclectic and the wine was serious. I recommend trying out the Hobbit, if you have never been to it, and live in the OC or anywhere in the general area.

Have you ever had dinner like a play in 3 acts? Well I have! And it was pretty great! The Hobbit is an experiential meal if you will that is offered Wednesdays through Sundays at what looks like someone’s huge house in Orange. For 82 dollars a person(plus 7.75 if you go with the fish entrée and whatever you’re going to pay for wine, gratuities etc) you are treated to a 7 course meal that is indeed experiential. Like a play, the evening is divided into Acts. Act 1 begins where you’re invited down to the cellar for champagne and appetizers. As you stroll around the Hobbit’s wine cellar, you can nibble their Famous French Sandwich(warm fillo dough sandwich available for purchase) or choose from a table full of different hors d’oeuvres. You can also pick out the wine that you want to drink that night. We chose to do the wine pairing for $ 45/person but they had a great selection of reasonably priced(and ridiculously priced) wine. Tip: if you’re not the greatest in heels maybe wear flats because if you trip and knock over that 1500 dollar bottle of wine on the rack… well, start licking the floor b/c you break it you bought it! Act 2 begins when you are brought to your table. We were served smoked wild prawns with onion glaces a brun, beluga lentils and petite croutons as a first course, grilled quail with Israeli couscous and Indian spiced apricot chutney as a second course followed by a salad of little gems lettuce with diced pancetta, spiced poached pears and a Roquefort dressing. This was accompanied by rolls and butter that was made into the shape of a rose(see picture). I found the prawns interesting and delicious as was the grilled quail(although difficult to eat due to the bone structure of a tiny quail). I really liked the salad especially with the perfectly poached pears. Act 2 ends with an Intermission where you can go visit the kitchen, go outside on the patio or wander around to any room in the house while your table is re-set for Act 3. Act 3 started with a Christmas sorbet that cleansed our pallets just in time for our main course. I had the Evening’s alternative because I don’t eat red meat which was a grilled grouper with ginger rice and baby bok choy put in a Chervil Beurre Blanc sauce. The fish was tender and a little rich for me but good overall. It paled in comparison to my husband’s filet mignon which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by vegetables and this sweet potato thingee that was pretty amazing. From there it was on to dessert which was a chocolate lava cake with torched Italian meringue and a salted grand marnier caramel sauce. We also got an extra dessert because it was my birthday! Just a few thoughts for any newbies considering going to the Hobbit for their first time: ***You can make a reservation on Open Table with a credit card and make sure to do that as far in advance as you can because they book out especially around the holidays ***If you come early to your reservation there is a bar upstairs that serves specialty cocktails but make sure that if you partake you have enough time to finish your drink. You are welcome to bring it downstairs for the first act but to get the most out of the experience, I think you want to have your glass of champagne right away and it’s awkward fumbling around with a big glass.(For me, next time I’ll skip the bar) ***The wine cellar can get a little crowded especially around the appetizers so you may have to be a bit more aggressive to try all the apps. We waited patiently for people to step away from the table and by the time we got in, some of the appetizer plates were empty(and those were the ones that other patrons told me were really good). ***If it’s winter, bring a jacket: It’s a little cold in the wine cellar and if you have one you can go out onto any of the patios prior to dinner or during intermission

What is not to love about this place? It’s called The Hobbit! I was lucky enough to have dined here twice… and on both occasions, the experience was nothing less than magnificent. From the entry way into the restaurant, you feel like you’re entering someone’s mansion… Before dinner begins, you are directed upstairs to the tiny bar area. Be warned, upstairs can get really cramped… best to grab a drink and head on downstairs into the patio area. Before dinner, you get to go down to the wine cellar to have hor d’oeuvres while you sip on a glass of champagne. Take a look at all the wines down there! There is quite a selection. Be careful not to stuff your face too much before dinner. Once dinner begins, you’re looking at about a 3 – 4 hour dining experience… with an intermission in the middle. You may be too stuffed already that you don’t even want to move. But get yourself up and head over to the kitchen and have a peek at where all the magic begins and also meet the chef. Needless to say, the food and wine pairings are amazing. They space each dish out just perfectly and before you know it, 3 hours have gone by! They will also do special accommodations to your dietary needs, just ask. And they will forever have that on file so next time you come, they will remember. This place is pricey, but it is well worth it.

Review over due, came here around my birthday week. I ate at so many places that month, but this is one of the locations that I really LOVED my experience at. It is a PREFIX Dinner with 7 – 10 courses(depending the the dinner event) Be prepared to be here for about 3 hours and come STARVING and eat patiently slow. The Chef here named his establishment the Hobbit, yes right off based on the Hobbits in the lord of the rings themselves. Reason? He told me it is because the hobbits loved to have dinner parties; to eat and drink all night long in shared company in their home. His restaraunt resembles a home in deed! At arrival you walk up to a door with a small window in it as they greet you and open the door, check you in for your reservations. The bar is upstairs and the patio to roam. ** Come on time! They start promptly at 7pm. My party and I went up stairs to grab a cocktail, and it is automatically put onto your bill. There is a tip jar, so tip please! So at that time, 7pm, you are then lead down to the wine cellar for champagne and hors d’oeuvres. At the wine cellar you can check out there wonderful collection of wine and you are welcomed to pick a bottle of your liking to be served at your dinner. The appetizers are exquisite, i mean they are very very delicious! Some of the appetizers that I can recall were the cucumber cheese with cavair. a few dips that were yummy, Liver pâté with an assorment of crackers, many cheeses. beef tar tar, and pâté cheese. After some time, you are then lead back up and guided to your dinner table. The dinner features a number of dishes in small portions. Halfway through the dishes, you are then given a break time which is about 30 minutes. Here you can roam the house again and the chef comes out to chat with guests. He took me and my friends through the kitchen and we chatted about his favorite dishes to make and his favorite events to host. He was a very entertaining guy. Their restrooms resemble a real bathroom, with a tub towls and cabinets! The whole restaurant is a home, guests are scattered throughout different rooms. Returning back to dinner we ordered a bottle of champagne that the Chef recommended. They own the vineyard that makes that champagne. The bottle is not cheap but VERY good and worth it! Every drop! Our main entrée was the Beef welling me, and i was nearly stuffed when I got it but it was a good portion size, small but really tasteful. I ended with coffee, and the dessert arrives around 10pm. We slowly finished our meals and paid our dues. Took us a while to get out because we had such happy food coma! I would definitely come back **tips ** Bring some cash to tip your waiters and and bartenders ** menu changes often, and make reservations weeks in advance — see their website** ** do no eat all day before coming. you must starve yourself.(haha…) ** Try not to take pictures because the place is a bit dim and it is a little inappropriate at theses kind of dinner parties ** cardio like crazy the next morning ** make another reservation :) TIPS *come on time

Évaluation du lieu : 4 Orange County, CA
We wanted to find a new restaurant to ring in the New Year, and boy, did we find it! We came here on 1−3−15 and were thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the overall price & value. We paid $ 247.00 total for 2 people, and that did not include the wine(we brought our own bottle) but it did include the corkage fee. The overall experience, however, was wonderful. You’ll need to allow for at least 3 – 4 hours, as this is a 7-course meal. Our experience began at the bar upstairs, as we waited for the other guests to arrive. This is an organized dinner and everyone eats at the same time. We had a drink upstairs while waiting, which was not included in the dinner price. There are 2 waiting rooms upstairs. I believe only 1 had a bar. As soon as everyone arrived, we were invited to our 1st course downstairs in their wine cellar for champagne & hors d’ oeuvres. This was perhaps the most impressive part of the evening! A nice variety of appetizers and the champagne glasses were never empty. The wine cellar itself was very impressive, and several couples selected a bottle to have with their meal. Once that was done, we went upstairs to the main dining area. I believe there were 2 sections. Each couple or party got their own reserved table. They brought out each dish in perfect timing. All of the food was spectacular(please see attached photos I posted)! We started with the complimentary bread that was served with butter that was shaped in the form of a rose. So fancy! Next up was the seared diver scallop, the duck confit & the endive baby lolla rosa. After those 3 courses, we had an «intermission» to cleanse our palate, and then we got our next course, a sorbet. The next 2 courses after that started with the main dish, the cote de boeuf, which was so tender & perfect. We then ended with dessert. The food was definitely outstanding. During intermission, we also got a tour of the kitchen and got to speak with the chef, which was very cool. This restaurant is located in an old, charming house. A word of caution, for some reason we initially drove right past this place! Not sure what I was expecting(perhaps a fancier setting outside) but it’s actually located in a very mainstream neighborhood surrounded by other restaurants & services. They do have complimentary parking available in their lot. You can dress business casual, but most were in a little more dressier attire. Definitely no jeans. I would certainly recommend this as a special occasion dinner. We would definitely come back again!
