I ordered the Black Forest Burger and it was huge. I had to develop a plan on how to eat this montrosity. It had a 1⁄3 pound hamburger that I would swear was closer to a half pounder, several halved pieces of jalapeño cheddar sausage(other flavors were available), bacon, swiss cheese, an egg, lettuce, tomato, pickle, mustard, mayo and on a pretzel bun! This burger was one of the best burgers I had ever eaten and it came with authentic German potato salad and sauerkraut(I substituted fried mushrooms for the sauerkraut though). I was so stuffed from the sandwich I almost couldn’t eat the mushrooms. .almost lol. My wife had a party melt that she loved as well. I definitely recommend this restaurant. It is kind of hidden in Oak Shade park in Oregon Ohio but we’ll worth the trip!

Only diners here. Menu very limited especially at lunch. Cold day disappointed that there was not any soup or chili. Ruben was delicious.

Last Wednesday, 7/2, we were headed through Toledo on our way out of town. We had 2 hungry little girls in the car and decided to try something new and different instead of the same old stuff. Upon searching on Unilocal we found rave reviews of Black Forest Café. We felt hopeful for a pleasant time and good food with our adventurous little eaters. Just to make sure I checked their website for hours and it noted clearly on the About Us page they were open on Wednesday from 6 pm to 10 pm. We drove 30 minutes out of our way to get lost first since the sign is not separate from the park’s sign that the place is in. Then to arrive shortly after 8:30 pm to find the parking lot empty save for what looked like two male employees of the place yakking in the parking lot and the whole restaurant dark and locked up. What good is a website if the information is wrong!!! A website is only as good as its information. It’s a reflection of the business it represents and customer service you will receive if you go there. Needless to say we were miffed and in a panic with one little girl starting to get dizzy. My husband called and left a strongly worded yet polite message on their answering machine requesting a call back. We haven’t heard back. Seriously, when they won’t return phone calls and fail to update the absolute easiest and most accessible form of social communication they have it leaves a bad taste in my mouth before I’ve had a chance to even try the food.

This place has some really super good food, and you will NOT be unhappy with the prices. Reubens are good sized, the signature Black Forest burger is a beast, for $ 8 with 2 sides! Fries are tasty too.

GOODLORD! Friday night dinners at the Black Forest Café are worth the effort. It’s less than 10 miles from Toledo, though it does feel worlds apart. But GOODLORD… the food is really really good. God almighty! It’s also very very white. The Black Forest Café Burger is unreal. Seasoned 1⁄3 lb Hamburger(seems smaller) with your choice of sausage(I chose German Bratwurst) 2 pieces of bacon(good stuff) cheese(I rightly chose pepperjack) and 1 egg all awkwardly placed between a toasted lovely Pretzel Bun! Served with AMAZING German Potato Salad and Sauerkraut. Seriously. People… the potato salad alone is worth another visit. Warm… porky… perfectly soft and smooth. I want more. A lot more. The whole dish is perfect. No store bought anything. The kraut was insane. Home style… rough… perfect. The burger is nuts. Impossible to eat but the challenge is wonderful. My wife was hoping to order the Weiner Schnitzel. But we showed up late… and it was sold out. THAT’S A GOODTHING. They make a limited amount of food, and sell out. That’s awesome. It means it’s fresh. So instead, my wife orders the Vollgestopftes Eichelsquash AKA Stuffed Acorn Squash. Goodness gracious great balls of fire! It’s unbelieveable. A ½ a squash filled with a grapefruit sized sphere of sausage/beef/rice that is wonderfully seasoned and covered in a sweet glaze. It’s so so so good. Everything is expertly seasoned. The dinner portions are HUGE. The service is lovely. The atmosphere is killer, and the drinks are strong. We had two huge entrees, sauerkraut ball entrees and 5 drinks. Dinner with a ten dollar tip was just shy of $ 50. That’s an incredible deal for the quality of food. It’s wonderful and worth twice the price. BFC is absolutely one of the best restaurants in NW Ohio.
