I love sushi and this place is the top of my list in Utah county. We go here for our anniversary dinners and almost anything else we can find to celebrate. The food is fresh and the service is great. They are a little spendy, but hey, it is sushi. That is why we go for special occasions or make up special occasions so that we have an excuse

Amazing sushi, Great service and also a very quiet and calm environment! I was very satisfied. Loving the playboy and Vegas rolls. Definitely coming back soon!

I’ve been here a few times and in my opinion it’s the picture of average sushi. I suspect the 4.5-star rating it currently garners is due more to its location than actual quality of the sushi; if this place were in downtown SLC stacked up against Naked Fish and Takashi, it wouldn’t have the same rating as those places. Don’t get me wrong — it’s perfectly decent when you’ve got the craving for sushi, but that’s all it is. People schedule their flights around meals at the best sushi restaurants in the city; this isn’t a «go out of your way» place, at least for the sushi.

Hands down one of the best sushi places that we have ate at in Utah. This was the first time that we have ate here but we plan on coming back many times over. Staff was very friendly, the setting is really nice, it’s quiet, and the fish was amazingly fresh. It was a little slow getting everything but it also seemed really busy for a week night. We had the poki tuna for an appetizer and it was amazing! The sashimi was amazing as well and we left feeling like we had been very well taken care of. If you are looking for a great place to try out for sushi, this is it.

The best sushi in Utah county. Love the sashimi plate! Fresh fish. If you like saki the raspberry saki was fantastic! Would recommend to anyone!

Came in for lunch from out of town, found on Unilocal and decided to treat myself today. Had s coke, gyoza, vegas roll, and Katsudon. What can I say it was all so. so. .. Delicious, PRAISETHEGODSDID I FEASTSO. Gyoza;: wasn’t bad but wasn’t to par with the rest of the meal. its not a loss but I think I’ll try the mussels I saw a Unilocaler raving about next time. Vegas Roll: delicious I dont know what else to say it was fantastic and filling could have ended my lunch full at this bad boy and been more than satisfied. Katsudon: Decided to give this a try after reading the description, fried pork and onions over a bed of rice and at only $ 7. boy was it good delicious has kind of like a sweet sauce on top was delicious and so much food. I’d like to add all the food came out super fresh and hot not inedibly so but close lol. I give it two thumbs way up go try it out!

I must say thank you Unilocal and fellow Unilocalers. You helped us find a fabulous sushi place in the Provo area. My brother was stuck on going into downtown Provo for sushi but it appeared on Unilocal that the best sushi reviews were in Oren Utah. And thanks to Unilocal we found Asahi sushi. The sushi was very fresh. Presentation was fabulous. The salmon, escolar, and sashimi was delectable. You’ve got to try the baked mussels — a great surprise and the summer roll with salmon, escolar, mango and kiwi is not to be missed. Must try sweet Jesus roll too. Sushi chefs and service was great. Sit at bar for a great show. If you want the freshest sushi a great selection and nice atmosphere you will be happy you chose Ashai.

*Rating is 3.5÷5 I like the ambiance. Yes it’s dark and intimate, so if you don’t like that then don’t go here. I went during lunch and they have a pretty decent lunch special, but the sushi to me was just ok. Definitely not bad and I would go back here again probably. I got 4 different sushi rolls: Spider, Vegetable Tempura, Funky, and Sweet Jesus(sorry for the blurry picture of them). Out of all 4 rolls, only the Sweet Jesus was amazing, all good, but like other reviews have said you really want to get the Sweet Jesus roll if you come here. My husband got chicken teriyaki which was pretty good. We also got gyoza, which was decent and a molten chocolate cake for dessert, which was very yummy. Service was good, although the waitress wasn’t overly friendly.

So I’m here at lunch with my wife this is the third time I’ve been here and its very fresh sushi it’s a little pricey but the freshest kind of off sets that. It has a bar you can sit out if you want sushi quicker or you set a table it’s very nice kind a green decker Tim

So I akin myself to a sushi hunter in this great state of Utah. I have tried many many sushi joints and have found some winners and some not so much. To have an idea of how my sushi scale stacks up. I rank Takashi as one of my tops for Utah, so I will compare Asahi to that. Asahi may be my favorite sushi restaurant in the state. Their prices are reasonable and the fish is delicious and fresh. They have good variety with their rolls and the flavors are great. They have some great nigiri as well. Last time I was there I got some Uni nigiri and it was delicious. Their tempura vegetables and other appetizers are great as well. If you want to get your chopsticks on some amazingly delicious and reasonably priced sushi, then this is the place for you!

Food is 6.5 out of 10 Service is 6 out of 10 Atmosphere is 5 out of 10 Overall the sushi is good. Not amazing. Not bad. It’s not a destination sushi joint but if you’re close by it’s a good lunch. Two points of feedback for the restaurant are you need more than one sushi preparer at lunch time. Sometimes it can take 15 mins to get a roll out since they always have only one person working. Also it’s really dark in the restaurant. I always notice when a restaurant seems to be in a cave. And this is one of them.

This place always has great sushi. It usually isn’t too crowded. Also, their appetizers are great. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly.

Asahi just may be my new favorite sushi bar in Utah County. A few reasons why I love Asahi: The atmosphere and ambiance of the restaurant contributes to a relaxing, almost romantic dining experience. It is clean, smaller setting, and all around really put together well. You don’t really expect it to be as nice as it really is seeing as it is located in a small strip mall neighboring a sketchy Chinese restaurant and some other businesses. The service was perfect. Our server was so kind and facilitating. She was super friendly and gladly answered all of our questions about the menu. She kept our water glasses full which a prereq for perfect service in my opinion(especially when eating sushi). We ordered about 6 rolls for the two of us: 4 special rolls and 2 comfort rolls. Everything was delicious and unique in flavor. I guess, what I really loved and was appreciative of was that the fish was fresh and not«fishy.» I seem to be running into that problem a lot lately with sushi bars around Utah and it is a bit of a let down. The price was just right in my opinion. We came during happy when all rolls are BOGO50% off. I will be most likely only returning to Asahi to fulfill my sushi cravings from now on.

Excellent fresh and delicious sushi. We will be back! We had the Vegas, playboy and sweet Jesus rolls and they were all to die for. Usually I stay away from rolls with salmon because they can be fishy. But their salmon was very fresh and tasted great! It’s a bit of a drive for us but very much worth it!

I really loved the summer fling roll. Very delicious Amazu sauce on escolar and salmon avocado roll. I also tried Philly and geisha. For my sister they were willing to swap in raw sake for the philly(smoked is more of an Alaska roll). I then ordered to go, requesting a mango and avocado«comfort roll» style, along with philly and Cali, but ended up with a Honeymoom but without mango and just salmon and avocado. Our waitress seemed to be struggling and didn’t seem confident about the gluten free options. Big plus for open on Sunday evening in Utah county– I got the happy hour deal buy one get lesser priced at half off. $ 38 for three special rolls and two comfort rolls. It was just kinda weird to request mango and avocado and then get something totally without mango. Made me a sad customer when I gave these rolls to my friend that stayed home. I think this place has great quality food but I want better service in order to feel that I receive exceptional value for the moderate cost.

I have visited this sushi establishment a few different times around lunch, dinner, midweek and weekends. Each time I visit the service is very laid back but prompt and professional. It’s a very chill place, we like to sit at the bar, and converse with the gentleman named«tigi» he’s great. The sushi is always made with fresh ingredients, and their selection is pretty decent. Their sake isn’t as good as their sushi, but not awful. Love to take friends and family here when they visit from out of town.

I’ve now eaten here probably 12+ times and figure I’ll write a review for the non-sushi eaters since I’m the guy that goes with the sushi eater and orders something else. I lived in Japan for a couple of years and think I have a pretty good feel for Japanese food. The kitchen food is hit and miss. The food usually looks good but in general it is «just ok». — The teriyaki chicken and beef does not taste like teriyaki — it’s some other sauce that isn’t teriyaki. It is drizzled over the sliced chicken. The teriyaki beef was really a steak sliced in thin-ish pieces and then drizzled with sauce. It’s really a sliced steak and not what you think when you hear teriyaki beef(it’s not a teriyaki steak either). — Miso is good. Dinner salad is good and pretty big. — Tonkatsu(Pork cutlet) is hit and miss on the tenderness. I’ve had it taste really good and other times be too tough to eat. — Portion sizes are decent. — Curry is a Japanese curry with mushrooms — good flavor. It doesn’t have other veggies that is common to Japanese curry(no potatoes, no carrots, etc). Generally speaking, I would rate their curry as «good» to «I’m happy I ordered that» depending on the day. Curry with tonkatsu isn’t on the menu but they will make it(see comments about the tonkatsu). — Asahi doesn’t really have any sushi choices without raw fish — I say that because some sushi places have rolls with steak or shrimp or crab or something to give us non-fish eaters an option. — My sushi eater friend says the sushi is quite good and quality is consistently good. — I haven’t had the slowness issues other reviewers have mentioned and I’ve eaten here quite a bit but mostly at lunch. Service has been good and food comes out at a reasonable speed. — Ambiance is nice — the outside of the building is deceiving. — They are open late and on Sundays. If you need a Sushi fix late in the evening, you can get it here. I suspect this is because they sell Japanese beer and are serving that late evening, out for a drink crowd. I haven’t been there late to see if that is true or not. Overall, I’ll probably keep going back with my sushi eating friend. Hopefully the kitchen food takes a step up.

Probably my favorite sushi place in Utah Co. Since I’ve started eating more and more sushi(and more, and more, and yet even more), I’ve found it harder to hit up my favorite SLC joints, meaning I’ve had to «settle» for some lower-quality fish, some overly sweet rolls, and some less-than-sanitary digs. One place I went to drenched their stuff in mayo. Another tasted like cat food. It was so bad, I figured I would never eat Utah Co. sushi again. So I was glad to find Asahi, which has been good both times I’ve tried it. I wouldn’t say it was melt-in-your-mouth, blow-your-mind umami, but I was satisfied with their traditional maki rolls, their hamachi and tuna, their bento box, and their service(and ambiance). The fish seems good enough. The menu is large enough. The portions are generous and their tempura is fantastic. If I’m craving sushi and need a place down the street, I’ll definitely come back.

This place was a big disappointment. I was in town visiting a friend and we wanted sushi. We saw this place had great reviews. After eating there I have no idea why. I’m guessing there’s not many sushi options around that area. First I ordered the calamari. Bad choice. It was greasy and totally frozen from a bag. Not that I expect fresh in the middle of Utah but it was bland and rubbery. We couldn’t even finish it and I’ve never done that before. Then we had miso soup and ordered the caterpillar roll. The soup was ok but the caterpillar roll was also bland and tasted warm. Like it had been sitting out for awhile. We couldn’t even finish that either. Overall I felt guilty I had suggested the place but I was surprised by the high rating. Never again. Locals might want to travel a little further and get some good sushi. You’ll be amazed.
