I used to LOVE this place. We would stop off here every time we made the trip out to nearby East Marion from up-island, a few times a year. But unfortunately a rather unkind waitress has turned us off from ever patronizing this establishment again. Which is a shame, because the food was truly excellent. During the last oyster ponds assn. holiday house tour, my wife, son and 8 or so more family members all filtered in to order some food. Unfortunately my 18 month old son had an accident, and my wife and I ran back to the car to change him. Not wanting to bring the shopping bag containing the unmentionable mess into the place, I went to throw it out in the garbage bin on the side of the restaurant, while the rest of our family was still inside eating. A less than pleasant woman proceeded to lace into me about how this is not a public garbage, and didn’t want to hear anything about how we had just been inside with the rest of our group ordering food. Now I’m a pretty substantial guy, and I’m not particularly thin-skinned, but this woman really make me feel like a criminal, as if I was doing something inexcusably wrong. Taken off guard, I walked off, diaper still in hand, and stomach rumbling. Better to starve to death, I thought, than to spend one more penny in this establishment. What a shame, because if I didn’t happen to run into this horrific person, I would have continued looking forward to visiting every time we were in town. Sorry to ding the whole establishment with a 1 star rating due to one person. I really hope shes moved on by now, but the whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I doubt I’ll be back.

This is a place I look forward to visiting each year on my trip to NYC by way of Orient Point(ferry). Its a quaint little village. The people who work in this store are very friendly. There is always an amazing surprise in the back of baked goods. Many locals«hang» out — it just makes you want to stay!

The perfect country store in beautiful little village. The owner greets you in the friendliest way. She takes your order and asks your name so she can bring your order to you as you sit outside and enjoy the sun. The food is fantastic(I had the egg, cheese and bacon sandwich). She remembers the names of returning customers and genuinely enjoys being your host. The vibe is indeed special putting a smile on everyone when they enter and an even bigger smile as they leave. This is one of those places where time seems to slow to a crawl. There is a common table in the store where you can sit inside. It was full when we entered and I felt like had walked into a town hall meeting of locals 200 years ago! :) There are also tables and chairs on the deck and also picnic tables on the lawn. Make the trip to Orient NY and visit this market — you will not regret it!

The Orient Country Store is an enchanting step back in time. The glory that is Orient is done justice by having this place. Freshly baked goods, old-school memorabilia, sufficient stock of the basics you need, locals sipping coffee on the sunny front porch… perfection. And the owners! Miriam and Grayson(and often Miriam’s delightful parents) welcome you with open arms and remind you why people escape city life for this slice of paradise.

This place is delightful. I’m not a resident of Orient, and was just in town visiting a friend. She took me to the Country Store, which is perhaps the loveliest place I have ever been. Fresh sandwiches, cold drinks, homemade baked goods, North Fork postcards, and tons of memorabilia hung up all over the place. Everyone who comes in here walks out with a smile on their face, and the owners really seem to love what they do. I had a Nutella cookie and a Salted Oatmeal cookie and they were both fantastic. Still thinking about the oatmeal cookie a couple of weeks later. Can’t believe that no one has reviewed this place yet! Please, someone with more knowledge do it justice! If you’re out in Orient, this place must be on your list. You can’t find old-town charm like this anywhere else.

Best bacon egg and cheese ! Franziskanner Weissbier also, along with other genioulsy picked snacks and nicknacks. Every town with a sense of decency needs this store.
