A friend was recently telling me about how good Vietnamese coffee is & that I’d likely enjoy it, so I figured I’d give this place a shot and see how I felt about trying some. The Di Vang(I believe that’s the actual name; two words) Coffee Shop is located in a recess of a small strip of Asian shops/businesses right near where Colonial Dr. and Mills Ave. intersect. It’s difficult to spot while driving on Colonial since it’s, as I stated, nestled in a recess or atrium further back from the stores accessible from the sidewalk. It’s right near the Golden Harvest restaurant, though further back from the sidewalk/Colonial Dr. I walked into the shop, not even knowing if it was open(the listing on Unilocal doesn’t indicate any hours of operation, and I didn’t see any posted on the door/window/etc.). A man, woman and young boy(perhaps a husband and wife and their son) were sitting inside, and a TV showing a what I’m presuming was Vietnamese cartoon or children’s show was on just inside the front door. Its volume was a little loud(plus my hearing’s not that good), so I couldn’t make out too much of what the man who helped me said, but he did speak English(as did the woman and another older woman who made my coffee) and asked if I just wanted an iced coffee. I said that was okay, seeing as how I had never had Vietnamese coffee before and didn’t know what to get. My coffee was ready in a few minutes and cost $ 3. It was presented in a medium-sized Styrofoam cup and was about half-full with coffee. It was very good and rich, though not as sweet as I was thinking it would be. Still, I enjoyed it. The younger of the two women in the shop was very polite and spoke English well. I was worried that I would have trouble ordering here since I didn’t know how well the staff would speak English, but that wasn’t a problem at all. There are several tables inside, though the shop was very dark.(As I mentioned, I’m not even sure if they technically were open, though the door was unlocked as I tried to enter.) This might be a good place for anyone to check out Vietnamese coffee, and perhaps there’s much more available here than what I got. If I make it back in, I’ll see if anything different from what I had today is offered. Since I don’t know anything about Vietnamese coffee other than what I tried today, I’m not the best source of information about it … but maybe some of you out there will enjoy this, whether you’re new to this type of coffee or have had it before and at numerous other places. As far as I can tell, the shop accepts cash only. I’m not sure if food is available here. Might just be a coffee shop. Give this a look if you’re feeling adventurous and curious. Parking looks like it can be a little tricky, though you can maybe park in the lot behind the shopping center, and you definitely can in the spaces out in front(on Colonial). If you can’t find a spot there, you may have to park a short distance away and walk on over.
