The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad

Universal should be embarrassed by this show. The stunts were good but the storyline and acting were awful. For a company that makes great television shows and movies, certainly Universal can produce something better than this.
Skip this show.

Other Unilocalers have pretty much covered it. There is no plot whatsoever. The stunts also only marginally seem to serve a purpose and the loud noises are unnecessarily jarring. The splash zone is pointless. It is indeed a shame because the actors seem talented and underutilized. Do not, under any circumstances, try to compare this with the Indiana Jones Disney show. It’s just not there.
And one last thing that other Unilocalers haven’t yet covered: I’m really over the casual misogyny of this production. Our leading lady is frustrated that Sinbad wasn’t watching when she took down one of the bad guys. Her outfit is completely midriff bearing (though I guess having no middle section/​no pants/​a skintight outfit must really enhance combat, considering how many female heroines are dressed that way). In another fight scene she frets over breaking a nail. She exaggerates the swivel of her hips. The female antagonist gets called a cougar. The females engage in a catfight over Sinbad who has no apparent talents other than arrogance and an obsession with his own hair. Apparently the 90s wasn’t a good time for live action script writing. Or gender equality.
So yes – come here if you need a break. Do not attempt to watch this show for entertainment. In fact, do not attempt to watch this show for anything beyond frustration. The only thing that got me through was spectating the children’s reactions. One kid folded into the fetal position holding his hands to his ears every time fire went off. A little girl grabbed her mom’s hair because she could not «TAKE IT ANYMORE!» Don’t kids just say the darndest things?

A stunt show that is themed for the Lost Continent, but kind of aimless. The show is in a massive amphitheater, and I’ve never seen it totally full, so plenty of seats for everyone. Sitting in the front can be kinda cool as you’ll be in a splash zone, and when the fire starts you can feel the heat. If you do sit in the front, be prepared to look up because a lot goes on at the top of the stage.
The show is comedic, and kid friendly, but the pyrotechnics and loud sounds can scare them. Most of it is stunt; people jumping off sets, fighting with swords, and swinging on ropes. The show didn’t make much sense story wise, but I’m not sure how much that mattered. The very end of the show has some great pyrotechnics, which make the show well worth it. I’m not exactly how long the show is, maybe 20 minutes or so, but it’s a nice relaxing break to relax and cool down from the hot Florida days. I’d do a show in the middle of the day when it is the hottest and the lines at all the other rides are the longest. My only suggestion to improve the show would be to have a story that makes sense, but I fear with the Lost Continent area being slowly eaten away, I don’t think The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad will be around much longer.
Don’t Wait Longer Than 10 Minutes: It’s in a huge amphitheater, so plenty of room for anyone who wants to watch. Just time it out so you should up as the show starts.

There seems to be a lot of flak for this show, but I thought it offered just my type of cheese. Call me a cheesy, 90s-​loving lass, who also happens to like fireworks, water, and guys with abs. Because that’s me, in a really watered down type of way. I’m highly aware I’m the only one who gave this 4 stars, and over the course of visiting Universal Several times, I gave many rides 3 stars that had a 5 star majority. Just take what I have to say on an individual basis, because I am definitely not comparing one with the other.
This is a stunt show that can be found in the Greek part of the park. It has varied show times, but they usher you in about 15 minutes before the show starts. It’s in a huge, atrium-​like area, complete with stadium-​style seating and complete shade for the whole atrium. The set itself is very Goonies to me. There’s huge stalagmites and stalactites, water pools, ropes dangling from the ceiling, and a general caveness going on.
Depending on where you sit, yes, you may be blasted with curtains of water. If that’s a concern, ask one of the ushers.
SPOILERS:
They started the show off with the «Omg, the actors aren’t here and I need some volunteers!» spiel. Naturally parents and their kids are picked, because kids get all the best things, despite the fact that their brains are small and they won’t remember what happened later in life. The emcee was a delight. Funny, sarcastic, witty, with a few pointed 90’s references and jokes, and so much energy. She had us laughing at everything and in a good mood before the show even started.
As far as acting, it was just fine. The acrobatics themselves were pretty impressive, though. We had no trouble listening to anything that was said, which was someone else’s complaint about the show. They did a bunch of really cool things. Flying through the air on ropes while holding onto another person, fighting with swords hard enough to make a clinking sound when they impacted, climbing up the face of 20 foot walls without support, spinning and somersaulting and a whole bunch of other acrobatics. There were explosions, sparks, fireworks, and at the end the show turned pointedly dark when Sinbad ended up setting the evil sorceress of fire. REAL FIRE, PEOPLE. Her (though I suspect it was a stunt double) entire body was encased in flames, and she wobbled around, until falling off a huge drop into a pool of water.
I liked that the princess in the story wasn’t afraid to kick butt, and she didn’t have to wait around for Sinbad to save her. The girl could take care of herself, for the most part. I think that added a complex note to the whole story. That, and the fact that Sinbad actually «killed» someone. I mean, neither of those things happens with any real frequency in children’s stories.

PROS:
–The set was really awesome, and reminded of the Goonies.
–The acrobatics were cool!
–They utilized a bunch of different techniques: fire, water, fireworks, sparklers, etc. to make the show an interesting one to watch.
–Some 90’s references and slightly adult humor (the kind that goes over kid’s heads) was used, for those of us who aren’t children.
–It seems obvious to me that the people who do this must enjoy it to a certain degree (or maybe they’re good at pretending?). At any rate, it translates well.
–Just my brand of cheesiness, with a dash of darkness and a princess who can actually take care of herself.
CONS:
–Before the show, you have to wait outside the gates and there is absolutely NO respite from then sun there.
–If you don’t know you’re getting wet, you will probably be unhappy. We sat where the water doesn’t go, which is exactly what we were aiming for.
THE VERDICT:
So yes, I enjoyed the show for what it was. It got me out of the sun, sitting on a seat, seeing some awesome acrobatics and pyrotechnics. I would see it again, if it was a particularly hot day and we wanted to watch some entertainment while resting our legs up. Yes, this show is mostly for kids, but if you truly enjoy cheesy, you may actually enjoy this show.

Sindbad should have just stopped after his seventh voyage. What the heck was this?
This show was totally unbearable in pretty much every way. Normally I’m a sucker for cheesy attractions but this was BAD.
First off, something needs to be done about the audio in there. The actors were totally inaudible, making it impossible to follow any bit of what was going on. Characters just kept popping out of nowhere, fighting each other, and we had no idea what was happening.
Also, many of the special effects and stunts served no purpose. At one point, Sindbad kept swinging on a rope between platforms for pretty much no reason. Or who knows, maybe there was dialogue to make this make sense, but no one heard it? And there were a lot of random explosions and loud music for no reason, too.
I genuinely felt bad for the performers, because it’s clear that they have excellent stunt and combat skills, and most of them are probably very good actors. Unfortunately this crappy venue and production didn’t do them any favors.
There’s also really no point of having that «splash zone» unless it’s over 90 degrees outside and you’re looking for a spot to zone out for 15 minutes and get a little wet. You’re better off going to the talking fountain right outside and asking it to spray you.
We were not happy that we chose to sit up front, because we couldn’t just leave unnoticed.
This production needs a HUGE facelift.

I’m sorry, but I most definitely did not enjoy this live action stunt show. If you want me to see it again, it better come with at least a $ 100 bill in the invite.
Like a previous reviewer said — yes, I give props to the actors — but the show was mainly for kids. It’s nothing like the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, and I guess it’s not cool to compare… but yeah. No.
If the show came with a free alcoholic drink, I think I would give it two stars.

This show is not that great, the storyline is not great but it’s a nice break from walking around all day. If you have little kids, they might enjoy this more than grade school kids. There are some explosions, fires, sword fighting and acrobatics. I was happy to be able to sit down for half hour.

Quick!, the world is ending and you have just one chance left to be entertained… Do you:

Wow, it’s a tough choice but I’m going with B. I would rather laugh at a lump of coal or some granite than be forced to attend this show ever again. I love cheesy entertainment. I love stunt shows so we thought this would be great. No. No. No. I would rather walk through a desert with no shoes, no shirt and an empty water bottle.
The stunts are predictable, the gags are old, the script never was funny — even back in 1990 when it was written, the sound is muffled, the set needs to be updated. On the positive side, it’s largely empty, the performers don’t seem to mind if you are doing crossword puzzles and the show is only about 30 minutes.
Seriously, this show needs a major overhaul or a complete replacement.

Pro: rain cover, good place to nap, great background architecture, fun moments and nice use of special effects
Con: no plot or storyline, forced jokes and terrible acting in which they just shouted their lines, fight scenes were amazingly boring and bland, made amateur mistakes like rushing through dialogue thus making everything incoherent, the stunts were amazingly bland and costuming was pretty boring, the audio system was absolutely terrible to the point where it largely ruined the show. Overall the show was sloppy and unprofessional to the point where it was very hard to enjoy the show.
This show is an outdated second rate has-​been which has lots of potential without any real delivery. IOA, please put in something new or seriously reboot this archaic mess.
But for visitors to IOA, I would watch it once just for the experience, just don’t have high expectations

I have to give props to the actors for their performance, enthusiasm and energy throughout this over the top cheesy plot! The pyrotechnics, and light effects were entertaining which is great for anyone who likes them.
I really recommend this show for those who need shelter from the rain and those who have no expectation of a coherent story! It’s free with the cost of admission and there were some seats that were marked as splash zones that i hardly saw water touch.
Oh and if you use this place as shelter from the rain you will not find reprieve from the humidity. Fortunately the show is large enough that you can sneak out unless you’re stupid enough to be in the front.

If you are looking for a place in the shade to cool off and rest your weary feet, this is the place for you. If you are looking to sit, rest and be entertained, you’re better off sitting on one of the benches throughout the park and doing some people watching.
This show is at least 10 years old and it shows. Either than or the target audience is young kids, if they aren’t scared off by the loud bangs, bursts of flames, explosions and monsters/​witches (huh?). The sound itself was pretty bad and we all had a hard time making out what they were saying.
This reminded me a lot of the pirate show at TI in LV.
Quite a few people walked out of the show. If I didn’t need to rest my aching legs so badly I would have joined them.

A ridiculous stupid piece of junior high school level drama. Bad for all ages, especially for young kids, unless you are ok with them seeing a fellow human being burned to death.

There are a few parts of Universal and the Islands that seem very outdated and are in extreme need of and overhaul. This show is one of them. First, the sound. The special effects are extremely loud but I couldn’t hear/​understand what any of the actors were saying the entire show! The plot was typical but a little difficult to get when you can’t hear anyone. The stunts are very G rated. The actors react well but it’s obvious that the punches/​kicks are a good foot away from them. The set also seems very old– circa early 90s. Overall, not worth your time unless you need a break from all of the rides.

A show that is inside the Islands of Adventure in Universal Studios Orlando Florida.
You will enter to a small area with benches that all face towards the show. Honestly I didn’t think the show was that great simply because it wasn’t very engaging to the audience nor were the special effects that great. Didn’t really have a deep storyline so that too didn’t help.
In my opinion you are better off using the time to get one a ride that you really like.

An okay show. The splash zones are near the middle of the seating instead of the first 3 rows, so beware. Lots of fire, water and stunts but just wasn’t all too interesting for me. The story was a bit lacking but still glad that I got to see it once.

I can’t remember how many times I had been to Islands of Adventure before I realized that this was a ride. For the longest time I thought it was just a talking statue outside.
When I realized that you could snake around and go inside, I got really excited! Then was almost immediately let down. The time we went through there was some problems with the show in front of our group, and we sat in this one room for what felt like an hour. It was like being trapped in boring land.
When we finally got going again, I had completely lost interest, and couldn’t wait for it to be over. Nothing was exciting enough to hold my attention, and I felt like I wasted a good chunk of time I’d rather have spent riding The Hulk.

Go to Islands of Adventures and don’t waste your time here if you’re between the ages of 12 – 33. Although, if you are with A child between 3 – 11 then he/​she will enjoy it. But again, islands of adventures are rides!!! Not shows. If you want a shows, go to Universal Studios instead.
2 stars because I’m 26. But I enjoyed the overall theme decoration of the entire area.

This show was pretty boring. I wish I would have just spent the time standing around in awe at the Harry Potter world!
The show was pretty boring and for a stunt show, there sure weren’t very many stunts.
I recently went to the «Waterworld» stunt show at Universal Studios, CA and THAT was a cool show! It literally ‘blows this one out of the water.‘
Seriously, unless you’re just looking to take a break at the park and sit down to rest or maybe in the summer it’s just to get some shade for a bit, don’t waste time here where there’s so many other great things to do in the park!

The show itself wasn’t that great, I still think the talking fountain is waaaay better and I would’ve watched the the fountain trick and make fun of the kids instead of the show if that option was available. I think this show is better for little kids, it is entertaining if you have nothing else to do or to get out of the rain since its covered. Unfortunately during our show it started pouring, so everyone crowded around the exits, we should have just gone down to the floor to meet the actors. Oh well… I was kind of expecting something like the Water World show at CA Universal but Water World is soooooo much better! There were a ton of pyrotechnics but nothing like jet ski chases and a guy shooting water at people as they fill the show area in Water World. They did have one zip line and a slide and diving. I wouldn’t waste your time here if you have to come back to see a show but if you have nothing else to do and its on the way then maybe.
P. S. Not to sound harsh but the princess was kind of chubby in her revealing tight clothes and she looked old. I guess they don’t have an abundance of attractive stunt women?
