This restaurant is a great place with a casual environment. The sunset view is spectacular looking out on the Tomoka River. It is kid friendly and perfect for ladies night. They were also voted Flaglers Best. Great place for lunch too

I had the grilled fish sandwich which was very good Husband had crab legs and he enjoyed. Service was not good at first but eventually all turned out good. I give a 3 star just because nothing is exceptional.

We came here with a pretty large group, and overall, none of us were that impressed. We had to wait about 20 minutes despite having a reservation, and then the food took an exceptionally long time to come out. Our waiter was really nice, but I think we could’ve got a free dessert out of waiting so long or something. The food, once it came, was underwhelming-I mean, no one really loved any of the food. I had the mahi mahi tacos with island rice, and it was all pretty bland. We sat out on the deck area, and that was nice. I think there was a live band, but it may have been on the other side where we could not see/hear. Wouldn’t make an effort to return.

Great atmosphere, service, price and most of all the food. I tried 3 different plates as all those at the table shared to taste each dish. The mango/jalapeño sauce, if I remember the name correctly, was great on the salmon. Mahi was awesome and the steak was on the money. Looking forward to going back and taking some other friends to try it. Give it a try and see for yourself… and don’t forget your camera!

I live in Lakeland, though my parents live in Ormond Beach. Every time I visit I insist we go here. The fish Po Boy is simply fantastic! I don’t even really like seafood but I order the Po Boy every time, it’s that good! My parents also order a chicken certain sandwich every time and I’ve tried that as well, it also is fantastic! Tge food is amazing, the atmosphere is amazing and I love the outside seating right on the Tomoka River. Service is a little slow, but the food makes up for it!

Awful. Service was extremely poor. Our waitress had another table on the outside deck. Too bad for us that we were inside. Took WAY too long to get the check after waiting WAYTOOLONG for everything. Drinks, refills, food, even getting a bag for our food. I was so disgusted that we left without getting the bag. Very disappointing. More than likely this was my last time eating here. However, one good thing… the calamari is good. That is worth a star.

Love the River Grille. Our meals were delicious. The service was fantastic. The dining area over looks the Tomoka River and makes for a great experience.

The River Grille on the Tomoka has large indoor and outdoor dining areas with interesting«old-Florida» décor and a great view of the river. When I visit Florida once every few years, this is one of the restaurants I try to hit. However, they do miss the mark in terms of food and wine quality. For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, there is a LOT of Tilapia on the menu(«Google» how this fish is raised!). The wine list is tiny and barely acceptable, with their best bottles being of only average quality. Fortunately, they provide corkage, at only $ 10. The food is generally good, and the service average. Location is everything!

I and my family have eaten here many times. When it was first opened they had a lot of problems and the staff and management changed. Since then the food and staff has been great. We have come for special event days and just to have lunch on week days. We always go out for lunch so I do not know what it is like for dinner time. When the crowds appear for bike week and special events we try to stay clear due to the wait times. The one reviewer who said the menu on this site is not what they serve is correct. This looks like the original menu that had not been updated since they opened. They have added and taken items off over the years. I miss the Noco-roco grouper(peanut sauce with spice). Now they have a wasabi crusted grouper but it is not as good and not very hot. My wifes vavorites are ASIANSALMON(Asian BBQ glaze with pineapple salsa) — $ 17.99 or the MANGOMAHI(mango/coconut chutney on top) — $ 17.99 If I do not get one of those then I get the MO-JOBURGER(onions, mushrooms, cheese and bacon) — $ 10.99 If you want there current menu you have to go to there web site

We ate a late dinner last night at RiverGrille at the insistence of my in-laws and my wife. The restaurant seemed pleasant from the exterior. The dining room and bar were nice. The outer deck area fronts on a river. Upon entering I immediately knew that this was a major tourist restaurant judging by the amount of restaurant t-shirts and souvenirs for sale. The varied menus features seafood but of course has chicken wings, burger and such. My wife ordered the crab stuffed flounder.entrée. I ordered the full size fried seafood combo which consisted of 6 shrimp, 6 scallops 1 piece of fish 2 hush puppies and a side of coleslaw. My in laws ordered the ½ size each of the fried combo. My wife was very happy with her but my and my in-laws fried seafood was under cooked and the breading was falling off the fish. The scallops were also undercooked. However the shrimp were overlooked and dried out. The sides of hush puppies were very hard as if they had been sitting under the heat lamp a long time. Even thought my wife was happy with her meal, I cannot, recommend RiverGrille. If are going during the dinner rush, itmight be O.K. Since the food will not have a chance to dry out. It is a shame because I liked the looks of the place and the look of the menu. But the bottom line is they are not serving good food. Maybe because I live in New Orleans, I am spoiled on properly prepared seafood.

We ordered the Bayside and the fresh catch grouper. Neither was anything to write home about. The shrimp and scallops were frozen not fresh. The portions were small. The Bayfront was lemon pepper shrimp, scallops and tilapia. Mike had the fresh catch blackened grouper. For $ 25the fish was barely 4oz and included three frozen shrimp. The grits were instant and the corn relish on top was actually good. The portions vs prices was not good value. Everything was just average — including the service. The view on the patio was about the only thing great about this place. We most likely will not return.

Very disappointed! The view is great and atmosphere… We waited for over 30 min for our food we had steaks. When they finally came, they were lukewarm; not even editable. They took the food back to the kitchen it took another 30 min. For us to get it back. Once we got the steaks back they were good. But the whole experience was ruined. Will not return!

Our very large group was taken care of with no hitches! Food, ambience and service were excellent. We sat outside with a nice view of the river.

We got sucked into a bogus listing of the River Grille with great reviews and a completely different menu listing, I posted a 1 star review of that listing as a warning to others… That being said, we went with the flow because it is about 20 minutes out of Daytona through the Ormond Beach area and there isn’t anything else nearby. The hostess station staff seemed harried and on the edge of a break down, which was troublesome. They weren’t clear about how the seating worked and what the differences were between tiki hut seating vs. other inside/outside options, so we were a little worried. They kept looking at each other like something was wrong and sort of rushed us to be seated — like people are coming in expecting something different than what they expected and leave. Once we got settled into our seats and looked at the menu and saw that it wasn’t anything like the listing we had seen we were extremely disappointed. We had already ordered a bottle of wine though and decided to stay and see what it was like. I actually called the restaurant to make sure it was the right place. The lady that answered the phone was very nice, pleasant and explained that they were the only River Grille in this area, but there was another in New Smyrna. She asked if we wanted reservations and hoped we would come in and try their food as it was very good and fresh. I knew she wasn’t at the hostess station. The first number I called said to call another number unless I was calling for the business office. It is on the Tomoka River and it really is a decent place. They keep it clean and swept up. The outside seating is very nice with plenty of views of the river and you get a great sunset view if you’re in the right seats on the deck. You can walk down the dock and see the alligators.(and the sign that says don’t swim with them). It is right at the bridge on US1, so somebody is going to be looking at that and the cars driving by, so grab the right seat. There is a large bar area inside and plenty of inside seating. The outside seating is set up so that it can be very quiet and intimate(tiki hut seating is what they called it). It seems they have a separate bar area with foul-weather enclosure that they can open up for busier nights. Our server Renee was very nice and helpful. We decided to order an appetizer first and see how that turned out before placing our dinner order. We had the fish fingers, which were delicious! I had the scallop bake which had plenty of scallops, cheese and a light, not overwhelming seasoning. D had the hamburger which he thought was good. It’s early enough in the season that it wasn’t too buggy and they do a good job with the lighting. When we were walking on the dock I noticed that they seemed to keep the undergrowth cleared out so it doesn’t breed the bugs you might have otherwise. I think if our expectations of the place had been set appropriately by the Unilocal listing I would have given it a better rating. We come in dressed up and ready for a 5-star meal and experience and that just wasn’t what it was. Making sure your hostess staff isn’t freaking out when someone walks in the door might be a good first step.

«Chillin’ by the River» Not a bad place. I liked the outside seating area along the river. Happy hour prices were good. Dad and I got double Scotches for 5 bucks each and Mom stole sips from ours as usual. We shared a plate of calamari which was okay and then I had tilapia, Dad had salmon and Mom went with a shrimp Po Boy which was actually two sandwiches and a healthy portion of red beans and rice. The tilapia was good and it came with the same rice dish my mother had and my dad liked his salmon. Ditto for the rice. We ordered another round of Scotches and sipped them by the water as we talked and waited for the bill. Dad picked up the tab and we enjoyed the rest of our drinks on a nice evening. Nothing beats cocktails by the water.

I was very impressed! The atmosphere is perfect for me. I’ve only been once(to date) but I will be back. We took a table outside on the river and although it was a 90* day I was comfortable. They need to learn about Pandora and set it on Ben Harper or Jack Johnson channel because either would be perfect for their outside seating areas. The music they play was so-so. More lame than cool but they did play Violent Femmes so it didn’t completely suck. The drink specials were tasty and not watered down. The gator tail appetizer was superb, probably the best most tender I’ve had. I ordered the Oyster Po Boy and my wife had the Clam Roll and both were very good. The service was great, the food was great, and the drinks were great. I loved it. Not sure why I didn’t give it five stars. I really have no complaints. Maybe the prices were a touch high but then again prices are high everywhere so…
