I’m a English Literature student at UWO, and was turned on to a place that reopened, which was an Oshkosh beloved restaurant. I went there this last Friday, and got the perch with the potato pancakes. My meal was super yummy. The wait staff was freindly and quick. Usually people comment on their bad experiences, but I have to put in a Hussah to Jansens, an excellent home town place that makes you feel at home.

I lived in the neighborhood for ten years and it was the best. Just read in the oshkosh northwestern it is re-opening with hew ownership on Tuesday. here’s the link to the article. I hope it get’s back to it’s former excellence, which it was from service to food to drinks, all well made at a fair price.

I’m not one to start rumors, but I believe Jansen’s has closed. I was passing through town and stopped tonight and it’s all dark. Went to another restaurant and asked about it. Was told they closed«about a month ago.» If so, maybe they’ll reopen someday…

Excellent food, atmosphere and drinks. Bloody Mary was awesome. I had the seafood platter and my boyfriend had the perch sandwich. Wonderful! Clams are hard to find on a seafood platter!

This is the standardbearer for the Wisconsin bar, and I damn well love it. It doesn’t put on airs or try to be something it isn’t, and as long as you don’t expect it to be something it’s not, you’ll love it. The waitstaff is more than friendly — it’s neighborhood friendly even when you’re not in the neighborhood.(Also, their waitstaff show up as the local paper’s Volunteer of the Year, or as board members of the local historical society — I learned a ton when I made an offhand comment about whether Oshkosh had, um, houses of ill repute back in the day. Turns out one of the waitresses has done archival research on it. Seriously. How great is that??) And you can’t get better drinks for a better price — what they charge for premium is what other places charge for well. The sweet potato fries and fried green beans are great. Great fish fry, more kinds of potatoes than I can count(but at least they’re all listed on the menu now!), good fried everything. I’ve had most of the fish dishes and loved ‘em.(Although it’s not necessarily your first diet restaurant choice, I found out that low-carb options available — I mentioned I was doing low-carb and was told they can change anything accordingly.) It’s a great Wisconsin bar with great Wisconsin bar food.

We go here about once a year. We went last week. The food was very good, tasty. The prices were great. Our bill with a steak, Biggie burger and pie and drinks was under $ 25 with tip. We did have a coupon. But the pie was fabulous too. The place is a little run down. But the service was friendly. And a lot of the staff knew the customer’s names. It looks like a place that people go to meet their friends, like a corner bar. But without the drunks.

I’ve gone back to Jansens more and more and we really like it here. Really good food every time, very reasonable prices and good portions. It’s definitely one of our favorite places to eat.

Biggy Burgers, preach plates and great old fashions… when you say Wisconsin you said it all!

Very good food at a reasonable price. The bar/restaurant is tiny and creates a cramped atmosphere which is somewhat awkward and uncomfortable. The staff is very friendly and the customer service is above average. If you avoid busy times this is a great place to eat. Good fish, steaks, chicken.

Classic Wisconsin tavern and smokeless to boot. Great fish fry and potato pancakes, friendly staff, inexpensive drinks. Not much more you could ask for from a Wisconsin Tavern.
