One of the few local Farmers Markets open during the winter season for those of us who live in the Northwestern part of Westchester. For the 2015 winter season they’re moving indoors to the Claremont Elementary School so you(and the vendors) won’t have to freeze your butt off to get local produce. I like to visit other farmers markets during the regular season but this is the only market I go to in the winter. I would say in the winter season there’s about 15 vendors total on any given Saturday. My favorite vendor is the Pickle Licious guy. He lets you try whatever you want before you buy and he’s super friendly. Meredith’s Country Bakery is another favorite of mine as they have an extensive amount of gluten-free breads and snacks. Their kitchen where they prepare and cook the gluten-free foods is completely separate from their«regular» kitchen which is rare to find. I also recommend checking out the calendar to see when Bombay Emerald Chutney Co. is there because they have THEBEST chutney. While some vendors take credit cards I would highly recommend you bring cash. As a resident of Ossining I’m really proud of our winter Farmers Market and highly recommend it to other’s in the area.

This market is good for just the basics, but don’t expect to find more unusual or specialty sort of fare here. Other farmer markets around the area tend to have a more gourmet selection of goods, foods to eat on the spot and entertainment and activities to add to the atmosphere. This market tries once in a while to have live entertainment, food tastings or activities, but it really doesn’t do it consistently enough to make coming to this market more appealing and a regular must do.

I was very happy to see that the local community was taking full advantage of the offerings at the Ossining Farmer’s Market at Market Square. This market is held Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food stamps(EBT tokens) are accepted at this market opening up to those who might not be able to afford such fabulous goods otherwise. And the prices are very fair. We loaded up on up fresh bulbs of garlic. Though we grow our own as well, we never have enough and when the going’s good… $ 2⁄3. Sweet! The ubiquitous Bread Alone has a stand there as does Picklelicious. Some markets make it a rule that one has to grow or make what one offers. I believe Ossining has that rule as it looked like the crates had fallen off a local turnip truck, in a good way! That is truly supporting local/regional agriculture. No pineapples here! 3.75 stars. great for the community but on a personal note, not a market I would return to time and again.

Rejoice! A winter farmers’ market! At the first market, vendors included Kiernan’s grass-fed beef, Cowberry Crossing for poultry, pork, and more(no eggs til March, though!), Picklelicious, Dines, Pika’s quiche, an egg vendor, a cheese vendor, a produce vendor(from Riverhead– with a small but varied selection of winter veggies), a wine vendor, and more! 1⁄24 2⁄7 2⁄21 3⁄7 3⁄21 4⁄4 4⁄18 5⁄2 5⁄16
