Mr Beef & Gyros

I used to love coming here, ever since I was 17 that’s ten yeas ago ! Literally I would stop by once or twice a month, just to get my cheesy beef with fries or a gyro. There has been a lot of times ever since the new owner took over my food has been cold or they have added peppers to my beef I don’t like but I let it slide because I loved their beefs, but today really cut it for me my food was cold I waited 17 minutes to get a cheesy beef I got attitude by a black guy there for asking when my food would be ready he mumbled something under his breath so I called him out on it he just stood quiet, Food was cold fries was garbage, it was way better when the old owners where the Owners this new owner I’ve heard those drugs and can care less about this place now that I look at it it’s dirty and to top it off they gave me my food in my had and said they had no trays this is the last time I come here this place should and is going out of Business soon. It’s losing a lot of good customers, this is my last time here I will find a new place.

The worst gyros ive ever had. Used to be good years ago but dramatically declined. I could go on and on but this place is a disgrace to Beefs and Gyros. The name should change to Mr. Grease and Garbage food.

Today is my last trip to Mr Beef and Gyros. After being forced to physically order my food instead of being allowed to call it in, I returned home only to discover that my food was cold by the time we got there (I live less than ten minutes from the store). Beyond that, the tables and lobby were disgusting. I couldn’t even set my arms down at the table I sat at due to the amount of grease and food on it. Sub-​par food, crappy service, and a dirty lobby are all you can expect from this mediocre establishment.

I stop here quite often to get a gyro before work. You can get a small gyro, more fries than you can eat and a drink with unlimited refills for $ 5.50
That have a lot of other daily specials but they can change often so I always read the signs before I go in.
Service is quick and the food is always hot and tasty. A great piece of Chicago out in the suburbs.

Food is ok, service is a let down!!! Lucky for them there are no other place in the area … Ok in a pinch !

I have to say this was the worst meal I have ever had to pay for. Plus the cashier even charged me 70 cents extra for the cheese on my beef sandwich I asked them not to put on. The food took forever to get and we were not the only ones complaining about it. The beef sandwich was so salty I could barly eat it. My wife’s beef had hardly any meat on it, I think it was because they actually had to put cheese on that one. They actually microwave there hot dog buns, not steam them. They ran out of straws and napkins can’t possibly be any thinner and cheaper.
I am so disappointed because when I went there for the first time a few years ago I was excited we found a good beef joint. Now I will never go back! If it would let me leave a no star rating I would.

Every time I go here it makes me happy to be from Oswego. I like supporting local small businesses. The employees are always kind and polite! I love their gyro sandwich!

I’ve been here a handful of times. Nothing amazing and nothing just terrible. It’s somewhere to go if you’re in the area and you don’t want a fast food restaurant. It’s nothing I’d go out of my way to get though.

These guys are THE BEST! Super friendly staff ~ Super tasty food. We arrived at closing and they flagged us in. Above & Beyond on the Customer Service

Gyros are pretty good. They forgot to give me cucumber sauce so I had to drive all the way back from home to pick it up. They aren’t super friendly but its clean and nice inside. I would have given 4 stars if I felt they were more nice. I read other reviews and I see customer service seems to be there biggest problem. I hope they change that.

I am so sad to be writing this! Like I am actually dying a little bit on the inside. This used to be my favorite spot to get Italian beef. Like all time favorite. As I stated in my last review, I have yet to taste a better beef, being a Chicagoan that speaks volumes. When I came in and found out they don’t serve them any more, my heart dropped.
Two things come to mind. 1. Why is the name still «Mr. Beef and Gyros» if they do not serve beef? A little misleading. and 2. Why would you take seriously the best thing you have to offer off of your menu. It also looks like I’m not the only one a little disappointed. The owners really need to take a look at their reviews and make adjustments. I think someone stated below the reasoning they were given for the beef removal was because it was getting too costly to make them. A smart business person would have just raised the price to match the expense to produce. Not remove it completely off the menu, I know I would have still purchased them. I don’t think I’m alone. They were seriously delicious.
I suppose my only option now is to search for a new favorite beef spot. I’m super sad. I really hope the owners don’t take offense to the reviews they are getting, as many do when they receive bad reviews, and instead take it as constructive criticism to move in a better directions. Your customers are telling you what they want. And we want the beef back! I will now crawl into the fetal position and cry. Thanks Mr. Beef and Gyro for ruining my day. What a shame

Don’t get me wrong, the food is actually pretty good. Best gyro sauce ever, I’m always constantly saying how other places need to have there sauce. There fries are to die for! But honestly what they need to improve on is customer service. We all understand that they get busy and slammed with orders, but when employees are rude and seem not interested in taking care of the customer then it makes customers not interested to come back. If they want to keep customers that are loyal then they really need to step up and improve on customer service. I don’t see this place lasting if they don’t turn it around.

The most salty beef ever, don’t even waist your time there. They’re nothing that is even related to Chicago! Ordered cheese fries and they were floating in cheese. Just gross!

It’s with much regret I have to turn a once 5 star establishment down to a 2 star. Mr Beef opened a couple years after we moved to the area. The original owners, two brothers I believe, started this place. They had such pride over the quality of their product they literally showed me the vat of fresh sliced fries made each day. The gyros made fresh off the spicket were outstanding. I knew I didn’t like precut, frozen, processed gyro meat but I never knew meat off the spicket could ever be messed up until something changed at Mr Beef. I noticed the meat was dry on a gyro order. I chalked it up to a bad day. I also began to notice my favorite up beat, extroverted owners weren’t behind the counter anymore. I figured they had built such a great place that now they can do more behind the scenes and staff the restaurant with younger workers. Apparently I was wrong. They sold their business. I put it all together when I noticed the same new business practices being repeated. Now they shaved the gyro meat and stored it in a heated warmer (hence drying it out). The fries clearly aren’t cut same day. The fryer oil is not fresh not at correct temperature. The fries are now too greasy. The fries and pizza puffs are over cooked. Tonight the gyro had red onions on it that looked wilted. The pita tasted as if it was rolled in excess salt. Not one item tonight had tasted fresh, good, or proudly prepared as the original owners once shined for.
I have never experienced rude service or people at Mr. Beef. The new owner seems to be like a really nice guy running his business as well as working behind the counter. I’d recommend that he let his employees do the work while he focuses more on quality, product, management, and improving the weaker areas of the business.
I can’t say I’d ever been able to «taste» the change in a business until now. Unfortunately, I have no desire to make the trip to Mr. Beef for food like this. I will head back to Smokeys in Yorkville for my Chicago quality gyros.

What happened to unlimited dollar HOTDOG Mondays you fools! The only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars is because the food is ok. If this is the closest thing to South Side Italian beef, then I feel bad for the western suburbs. This place wouldn’t last 24 hours in chicago. Also if your sign says your open til 9PM, stay open or people will start reporting you to the BBB. This is what separates you from a great establishment.

4.10.15 (Friday) My family & I went to this establishment @8:20pm ((Closing Time is Listed for 9:00pm)) There were several other tables seated, as well as others waiting for «to go» orders, 2 woman to be precise. My son and I were looking at the menu deciding on what to order (burger or gyro??) When all of the sudden the guy from the counter yells «WERE CLOSED!!!» My family & I were shocked! Like what?! Confused to say the least. We asked WHY? Sign clearly states that their open till 9:00pm There was NO explanation given of why we weren’t being served. As we were walking out, the woman who were waiting for their orders started telling us «YOU DON’T WANT TO EAT HERE!!» Still dazed & confused as to why we weren’t being served, we LEFT! Obviously. So Please DO NOT give these people our Business. They treated not only US but other PATRONS as well like CRAP! We ended up going to Nicky’s on Route 59 They were GREAT!

Okay, so the FOOD is absolutely a 4 or 5. But the service is crashing AND Fast! You go in to place an order for pick up and sense that someone didn’t show up for work as they are way behind. 25 min later for 2 cheeseburgers and an order of fries. Thanks for the wait is with every order.
You call ahead to place an order for pick-​up and get the phone slammed down after being told to hold. Then when you say you want to order for pick-​up you are told «it is 25 min for pick up» in the loudest, unhappiest voice ever. No thank you. If you said it nicely or acted like you were trying then maybe. Instead it is a gruff, I hate my job that makes me not want you preparing my food. Even if it is good.
But I can find an alternative in that 25 minute even if it means waiting 25 min for that alternative. Too bad as I mentioned, the food is great but something is going on with the staff! Fix it or your storefront will be empty before you know it. Look around!

This place used to be delicious but since Steve and Dino left it has gone down hill I ordered a cheeseburger and it was awful my husband got the Philly cheesesteak and it was much smaller and contained much less beef. The fries were the best part and they weren’t even as good as I remeber I told my husband I would like to throw my lunch up and go get something more satisfying we will never be eating here again if I were you I would take a twenty minute drive to yorkville and try munchies the quality of the food is much better! If I could give no stars I would!

They use to serve Vienna beef hot dogs, but not anymore …YUCK!
They use to have wifi… syke.
You have to pay extra for gyro sauce
& they don’t give you enough… weak.
Their fries are the best thing, but not worth the trip there …meh.

This place USED to be so good!
Now that these young kids have taken over they seem to be more interested in looking cool in their stupid hats and keeping the restaurant clean or serving you fresh food.
It’s quite easy to see the irritation on the Spanish cooks face with the guys running the register… If I come back I will only come back when the manager is present!
