Great lunch place, love their sandwiches and the bread bowls are so good and unique. Always super fast and friendly service.

I went here for the first time last night. My boyfriend and I wanted burgers and it happened to be ½ price burger night(Wednesday). They also had various other specials for food nights. I noticed that it said Monday is $.75 wings and Thursday was $.75 tacos. The food was good and the service was also. Was a great place to watch the game. I will be back to try some more of their menu. A few of the other reviews talked about dirty carpet but they have replaced it with laminate flooring.

Just your normal neighborhood bar and grill. Friendly service. Lots of menu items, but majority are sandwiches… and they’re huge. Love the pasta salad and cottage cheese as side options!

Seriously, if you’re looking for solid soup served in a delicious bread bowl… With a son of bitch that’s good, sandwich on the side. Pop in this little joint.

Had a bogo coupon from the entertainment book and found ourselves sans kids for the evening so went over to grab a quick dinner with the hubby. Seriously, how has this place been in business for 20 years??? Upon walking into the dark, dingy strip mall location I am overwhelmed with the smell of stale frying grease. My hubby ordered a burger which he said was«fine». I ordered the smoked stackhouse. The roast beef was tough and stringy. The bread wasn’t grilled or toasted so much as just«kissed» with grill marks. The cheese was barely melted. Not sure what spicy Russian mustard is but think it was the sweet and sour type flavor I was getting. The lettuce was wilted and soggy. This place has 2 things going for it. The waitress was super nice and the fries were really crispy.

Good food, good drinks and great happy hour specials! The service has always been friendly. If the place is crowded then the kitchen starts to slow down but the food is worth the wait.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. The soup was from a can. The lunchmeat was the lowest quality possible. I could only enjoy this food late at night while heavily intoxicated. Quit eating my turkey sandwich with sprouts for fear of leptospirosis.

I must admit I wasn’t expecting much. But what I found was one if THEBEST hamburger I have ever had! I got the mushroom Swiss burger. They use fresh beef and a large amount I might add! It was grilled perfectly, and served on a toasted bun. If judging from the burger alone this place would be five stars. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was because of two things… The two star deduction is because of the following: 1. Place is run down and they had dirty tables left over after people had already left. If the owner would take more pride in the furniture, and cleanliness this place would be packed! Carpet is dirty, and disgusting. 2. The French fries were obviously frozen out of a bag. Why can’t they take a few extra minutes and fresh cut the potatoes? I just don’t get it.

Every sandwich on the menu is amazing! But I have a thing for Texas toast.

I love this place. The sandwiches are all delicious, as are the melts. I highly recommend ordering a sandwich/soup or melt/soup combo. The soups taste homemade, with scrumptious selections like creamy potato bacon and Wisconsin cheddar cheese. All of the soups are served in a bread bowl, so eating the warm, soup-remnant heavy bread after you finish the soup is an almost heavenly experience. For a half melt, soup, and side, the meal is approximately $ 8. The only downside to my visit was the wobbly seat and slighty torn up décor. Everything else was just right!

I’ve never eaten at Gert’s for dinner, but it’s a consistently solid lunch spot. Never too packed to slow you down, but it’s always busy enough to let you know it’s good. Unfortunately, they don’t turn on their fryer during the day, so if you’re hankering for french fries, go somewhere else. But I’d suggest you think twice before you do, as their mainstays are plenty good without fries. First, the sandwiches are great, served on thick Texas toast and with a wide variety of styles – my personal favorite is the Smoke Stack, with roast beef, smoked turkey, smoked Gouda and spicy Russian mustard. And second, they have fantastic bread bowls and soup. They are big enough for a meal in and of themselves, but if you’re feeling extra hungry, you can get a bread bowl and half sandwich combo. With all the options for lunchtime out in Overland Park, it can sometimes be hard to stand out. And Gert’s is certainly nothing flashy, but they are good where it counts – in speed and taste.

We’ve come here a few times to meet friends that live by Oak Park Mall. It’s about half way for each of us. On Friday nights they have $ 2.50 wells and the pour is not light. The food here is decent but I wouldn’t come here just for the food. I had the chef salad last night. Usually you have thick pieces of turkey and ham on a chef salad. This was deli meat instead. Also, there was not any avocado, which I didn’t realize until later. However, it still tasted great. My husband had a Reuben and it came with a bag of potato chips — we thought it was going to be «homemade» fried chips. The Reuben was good. The best thing we have had here are the hamburgers. They are pretty good. All in all, a nice neighborhood bar. We will definitely be back.

Ugh. Slow service. Horrible plastic-y Velveeta slop being passed off as «Wisconsin cheese soup,» served in the wrong kind of bread for the bowl — it should be a sourdough boule, not an oversized dinner roll. Looks like a fun place to go have a drink & watch a game, but the lunch service did not impress me one bit. I see reviews from friends rating it much more highly, though, so I may have to give it a second chance just on the strength of that.

I came back to Gerts Grille(because it’s awesome) and had the half soup, half sandwich combo. The T.A.C. just might be my favorite and the chilli is perfect for a chilly day!

Good place for sandwich and soup. Reasonably sure the bread is homemade. and very good. Place is fairly busy at lunch, the non descript strip mall location seems underwhelming, but its worth a try.

My name is Amanda. And I love Gert’s Grille. It’s true. Tuna & cheddar melt = amazing. Broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl = indulgent. We moved to the neighborhood a few months ago, and we’ve been there a ton already. The service is always great, and all the bartenders are awesome & friendly. We even got a free homemade cookie one night by chance. *YUM* My only complaint? It’s not open 24⁄7 :)

I was in this shopping center just across College Blvd. from JCCC to pick up a prescription. Decided to check out Gert’s Grille, which I’d seen often but never visited ’til now. It was mid-afternoon and empty. It looks like your typical suburban dive/sports bar — no décor to speak of, lots of high tops for sitting around and booths along the wall. Beer selection was not impressive, although they did have a couple of decent beers on tap. There’s a big sandwich menu and I ordered their Reuben, which was favorably mentioned by another Unilocaler. The sandwich is very generous — served on a darkish, thick-cut rye bread that’s actually kind of soft. The filling was plentiful and tasty, and the crinkle-cut skinny fries were hot, crispy and good. It all went down nicely with some Blue Moon. Service was friendly. Not a place I’d make a pilgrimage to, but it’s reasonably close to where I live and I shop in that center often so I’ll undoubtedly be back.

The best little place you’re never been! Great food, great atmosphere, fast and friendly service. This place lives and dies by the sandwich and bread bowl soup combo. Sandwich Recommendations: Reuben, Philly, Chicken Salad(add bacon) Soup Recommendations: Potato Bacon(every day) Tomato Basil(seasonal). I prefer the highly underrated Fiesta Chicken Salad. It’s very good and pretty dang healthy. Prices are great and there are always daily drink specials. I love Gerts!

Each time I go to Gert’s, I end up liking it a bit more. It’s really an awesome place to grab a few drinks and relax. It is almost always quiet, even on weekend nights, and the bartenders are usually really, really friendly. Prices are great, even on drinks that are not on special. My experiences with the mixed drinks is that they tend to be poured quite liberally, making the prices even better. I still have not tried the food, but I definitely recommend this place for a few drinks. That being said, it’s more in the direction of a dive bar than most Johnson County bars. Note, it is NOT a dive bar, but it’s closer to that then most other places in JoCo. Only complaint would be the TVs. I don’t see me visiting here often for any big games. There are several, but they are pretty small. The one big projection screen is dark and not very clear.
