If you like Jose Peppers but have not yet been to this location, don’t. When we came in and were taken to the table, I(and a few others) slipped on the floor. The server told us they tried to fix it. Rather than having us avoid walking on the slick floor or even warn us to be careful they just kept letting us slip. As far as the food goes, this is the worst I’ve had so far. Normally I just get the shrimp fajitas. Easy enough right? My plate came out with the peppers not even cooked and the shrimp tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple of days. Also, there were bits of the shrimp tail in my food which I ended up eating by accident and gagging on. Needless to say I spent the rest of the evening feeling sick. Great way to spend Friday night eh?

I love Jose Peppers, been coming here for years and my favorite has changed over the years, currently I love the Cod Tacos, they are big so I only get one, so good and I love that some of the staff remember me, always a pleasure coming here.

I’m just in town visiting a friend and he and I have always loved Mexican food. So I looked up local restaurants with Mexican food and Jose Peppers was already reviewed pretty good so we gave it a try. We quickly realized we loved the place. The atmosphere is great and the staff is very nice and the food is so delicious. We have been several times over the past few weeks and have deemed Jose Peppers a must if you like good Mexican food. Thank you to the waiting staff and cooks for several great visits! My friend always gets the Steak Enchilada with extra chipotle sauce for his rice and I have switched it up between Chicken chimichangas to nachos to pork enchiladas and it all has been awesome!

We go to Jose Peppers very often and so do most people that I work with. The service and food are excellent! The only bad thing is that I have a hard time getting through the rest of the day since I usually eat WAY too much when we eat here!

I go to Jose Peppers at least twice a week. The service and food is great. I order the yellow cheese dip everytime as soon as i sit down, and they always get it out fast. The food is always fresh and hot. Its a very good atmosphere.

Great food! We sat at the bar and our tender was awesome. She made a nice drink and was friendly. Many items on the menu that are worthy.

Jose Peppers is essentially the gold standard of Mexican food. The food is always excellent and reasonably priced, the alcohol is very reasonable as well.

It’s been a while since I’ve had Jose Peppers. Stopped in for lunch with coworkers. Service was great! Food was okay. We had to send our chips back. A lot of them were soggy but, espinaca dip and salsa was pretty good. I tried the shrimp taco on their lunch menu and subbed the rice and beans for a side salad. It wasn’t the best taco that I’ve had but, it was edible. Luckily, only one taco was included in the order.

This is a weekly occurance. seriously, weekly. I have gone here for 15 years, my kids love the espinaca, as do I. I LOVE the taco. I have never ordered anything on the menu I didn’t like. I have noticed the kitchen is getting slower and the checkout is slow as heck. There is also a funky rotten egg smell outside frequently but once you get inside and dive into the salsa… you forget all of that.

I am a Jose Dinner reward member for good reasons — I love this place. Tonight I ordered the Tequila Lime Chicken and I am hooked on it. The chicken breast was really juicy & moist! The tequila butter was the bomb! I even asked for a side of it to go for my leftovers. It has a real tangy flavor but doesn’t taste like butter. They brought back their 2⁄7 margaritas so I would recommend it as it is a very reasonable price — you can drink two. My dinner card gets me free espinaca — which is a staple item to order. I also like the light non greasy chips(add a couple of dashes of salt). Fresh salsa that has a good amount of cilantro. I like the new addition of the cilantro rice and charro beans(they have a kick). Only reason for 4 stars — our waitress seemed like she was rushed & was doing her job but not really providing her attention. There are plenty of delicious items to chose from so don’t stick to just one item.

The food was very good. I ordered the tacos al carbon they were fresh and very tasty and full of meat and fillings. The beans were good as were the Spanish rice. The margarita on the rocks tasted like straight tequila no other flavor. The salsa tasted like it was canned diced tomatoes with cilantro added. The atmosphere was overly loud and felt more like a bar than a restaurant. The service was adequate but obviously the server was an order taker and not a seller. I would only get food to go in the future here.

Excellent food and service. We got a mahi taco plate, enchilada plate and tacos. All were awesome. Very large portions too. We could have split a plate if we had known. I would definitely come here again. Great food!

Great espinaca dip & salsa. Thin, crispy chips… just the way they should be done. Definitely not authentic Mexican food, but still yummy. It’s been described to me as authentic Mexican 30 years ago, but we’ve now got more authentic options. It’s definitely above your neighborhood Mexican place… as I described Tequila Harry’s. Tons of lunch specials and they seem to be used to getting people in and out quickly. I go back and forth, but currently loving the Parmesan Crusted Shrip Quesadillas with avacado. Decent fish tacos, chicken and steak burritos. Always friendly staff. Never a bad meal. Clean bathrooms. Get a points card and get free espinaca dip every other visit!

The service is excellent! Sitting in the bar, and our server Nate couldn’t be nicer. I love how they use the buddy system to take care of the customer! Everyone is involved. Way to take care of the customer!

Once upon a time this was a great Mexican place to visit in OP… that was many moons ago. I have tried this place at least 3 times in the last year and every SINGLE time it is worse. The food smells like vomit and the last two times we left, my daughters were vomiting within an hour of leaving… scary part is that multiple people have said the same exact thing. To be fair — I have not experienced this nastiness at any of the other Jose Peppers

Good Mexican at a reasonable price with good service. You will leave satisfied and with a full tummy. Years ago in the late 1980s, this place opened at the corner of 103rd and Metcalf. For me, this was about as far south as I knew to go. I mean, sure, Showbiz Pizza was just a block away, and then there was that Laser tag place, but for Mexican food, there wasn’t another around. It was pretty barren out here. The Blue Valley area was still being developed. So, you drive the«loop» around Metcalf as a teenager, and end up at The Glenwood theater, Chili’s or Jose Peppers, where you turn around and come back North. It’s not that way anymore. Teenagers today don’t even know that loop, and the Chili’s and Glenwood theater are not even there anymore. Jose’s has become a chain across the area and simply a Mexican staple in Kansas City. It might be required eating, in Johnson County, I don’t know. If you live around Johnson County, then eat at a Jose’s. So, what should you expect at this location? It has changed a bit, since the 80s. But the food has remained consistently good. There is a full bar side to the restaurant, with plenty of seating and, for some reason a lot of open space that resembles a dance floor. I’ve never understood that space arrangement, and feel like they are missing an opportunity for 2 or 3 additional tables. The staff is a mixture of newbies trying to get it right and people that have been there for years. It’s not run and staffed by Latin folks, as many of the best KC chain Mexican restaurants are(Taqueria Mexico, Mi Ranchito), but the food is still consistently good. And what is that food? An Americanized Tex-Mex mixture of yummy goodness! You can gauge a good Tex-Mex place typically by the Carne Asada plate or Fajitas, but sadly they aren’t a stand out there(missing one, and just OK on the other). What they do have and do well are local creations like Pollo Magnifico. This burrito like creation is well seasoned chunks of chicken wrapped up in a burrito, chopped into two halves, topped with jalapeño cream cheese and melted cheese on a plate with standard rice and beans. It’s just so good! Each bite comes together in an assault of Mexican inspired flavors with a little bit of a crunch to the burrito flour. My personal favorite is the Diablo Taco. I don’t think it’s even on the menu, but it’s a solid soft shell chicken taco with some kind of spicy slightly oily sauce to it. Great with black beans on the side. Well. I’m writing this on a plane to Houston, Texas and thinking I really can’t find this kind of flavor at any of the Mexican places I’ve tried there. Maybe Jose’s has Kansas’d it up a little, I don’t know. It’s good stuff. Eat there.

Peach margis are to legit to quit! I only had one sip but it smacked my palette into submission and made me want more but I had to be good since I was the DD. The girls convinced me that espinaca dip was a must since we had a ‘cupin’ and it was free. I decided to check out their new carnitas tacos with a green chile queso. Yah, I think they found the hottest Hatch chiles from the fields of New Mexico. my throat burned like I had trekked the Sahara without the aid of a camel or canteen. I’m no sissy when it comes to hot and spicy, I mean my car is nicknamed Kiki Sriracha and I have deviled my eggs with a squirt or 3. A little warning Jose, it’s only right for those folks that may not tolerate such palette sweats!

My lovely grandma and I came here last night for dinner. Surprisingly for a Mexican restaurant on a Tuesday, this place wasn’t busy. We got seated and ordered waters and we were off to the races. I placed an order for an appetizer and just as a word to the wise, they automatically will try and give you the full order of anything you order if it comes in a half also. So I had to specify half when he came back(since he ran off quicker than I could say anything else). That was fine, the guac was delish. We ordered dinner, I had the flautas(since they were on special) and grandma had the creamy steak enchiladas and they were both very good. I don’t like that our server didn’t seem to give a care about us… and it was like pulling teeth to get refills on salsa, chips or waters. I also was very surprised that he didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert since that’s usually a norm. Just slipped by, threw down our check and came back when he saw a card laying there. Foods fine, service could be significantly better.
