Oh hell yes! These are the best sausages that I’ve had around KC. Let’s see — Creative? Check. Local? Check. Well-priced? Check. Delicious? Double check. I got into the habit of getting these at the Farmers’ Market over the years and always try to pick up a four pack of frozen Pale Ale brats for at home. I’ll admit I don’t have a grill, which would make them even better, but Jess who runs the show(and Dave!) recommended baking them and they turned out great. They even have veggie and vegan options here. All in all, this is one of my favorite quick meals around town!

As a hotdog-hater, I am shocked to be writing this review, but really, Wiener Wagon serves basic gourmet hot dogs PLUS about fifteen other gourmet non-hotdog items on Saturdays at OP Farmer’s Market. I have purchased lunch here twice, and both times were to die for. The first time, I got some kind of chicken and gorgonzola sausage on a Sasha’s bun with yummy saucy stuff on it. I was stuffed for about $ 6. The second time, I got It’s Not Easy Being Green, a chorizo verde sausage with some spicy white cheesy sauce and some other gourmet items tossed on, along with the Sasha’s bun. Good Lord, I did not even make it to the car. I parked it right on the curb next to the Wiener Wagon and snarfed it down with bags of peaches and eggplants at my feet. Next time, I am going to buy some of the packaged product to take home and prepare for lunches. I will also give some to family, and they will also be hooked. I know it. I really hope Wiener Wagon expands beyond the actual wagon so that I can go whenever I want, because before long, I will be working every Saturday and will have to miss out.

A «hot dog» made from beef brisket? Yes please! I have stalked the wiener wagon on Facebook for a couple of weeks, but our schedules were not meshing. The Merriam event finally brought us together and I instantly fell in love. All the different sausages make the decision tough. I’m already a huge fan of Werner’s and their different concoctions increase that fandom. The frankenburger is loaded with flavor. Nicely seasoned, but not overly done like a lit of sausage places. The beef really us the star. The buns are homemade. Not a typical hot dog bun, more like a short loaf, thick sliced into buns. Light and airy and delicious. The bread could stand alone with a pat of butter. Service was perfectly friendly and quick. Prices are high for a hot dog, but these aren’t just hot dogs. Well work it for the quality. I would like to see a little better bread to wiener ratio, but hey, this is a darn good dog! No more Sonic or QT in my future when having a dog craving! Off to continue stalking and try the rest of the menu.

Met my son at the Farmer’s Market this past Saturday, in the rain. At his recommendation we tried the sausages from the Wiener Wagon. We had three different sandwiches. I had the Muffaletta which has the bacon sausage with olive tapenade, grated cheese and a mayo like sauce. It was very good, very messy to eat by hand but very good. Everybody like what they had. The way the different sausages were combined with other ingredients to make better than the sum of their parts sandwiches reminded me of Hot Doug’s in Chicago.
