Y’all, this place is world-famous for a reason! I was born and raised in the south, I’ve eaten a lot of fried chicken in my day, and Gus’ doesn’t even compare!(Sorry Mom) The tenders are crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside with just the right amount of spice! Get the greens and fried okra for sides, ah-mazing! Oh, but start off with the fried pickles, some of the best I’ve had, they’re spears, not chips, YUMMY! I’ve eaten at Gus’ here in Oxford and also in Austin, TX. Be sure to finish off your meal with a slice of Coconut pie! I’ll be back, fo sho!

Bottom line: I won’t be going back because it was not memorable. The chicken was fine/okay but not anything special. When you have as much fried chicken as we do in Oxford, then you sure better take«it» to the next level when you open a new chicken joint that is right off the Square! I’d rather drive to Mama Joe’s and get«real home cooked» fried chicken. Yes, the chicken was delivered to our table hot. Yes, it had a little kick to it via the spice that’s used. But in comparison, the chicken was no better than Abner’s or Lindsey’s Chevron. I even like Lindsey’s Chicken-on-a-stick better than Gus’s Fried Chicken. Side dishes: The sides were NOT exciting. Sorry, but they were nothing special. I tried the greens, cole slaw, baked beans, french fries, and potato salad. Everything was average in «taste». For example, the cole slaw did not have any flare to it. It was basic mayo-vinegar-sugar-slaw and wasn’t even that good. Chick-fil-a’s is better and that’s fast food. Cleanliness: The restaurant was clean as it should be because it’s fairly new to the Square. I didn’t enter the bathrooms. Service: The server was nice and friendly, offering his fav’s on the menu and supplying iced tea on the spot. Price: For $ 43(our party was 3 adults and 1 child) I could have gotten KFC’s family bucket for a lot cheaper and it would have been just as good.

Slow service. Disorganized. Atmosphere lacks comfort and was appointed cheaply. I had pricy fried chicken that somehow disappointed from all the hype given this place. I enjoyed my meal but I have had similar chicken in roadway gas stations.

Soul food on the square! The chicken always comes out piping hot and the spice is not something you get when you bite it, you get that heat as a third or fourth note while chewing. Yum! I love that they sell sweet potato pie, fried green tomatoes, and chicken by the piece. It makes me think of Chris Rock in the movie I’m Gonna Git You Sucka hoping to order just one rib. He would have liked this place. I really did ask for one chicken thigh to go. For $ 2.25, it came in a cute, convenient brown paper bag with no sides, no fuss! I sat in the floor and ate it for breakfast. Our waitress Virginia was super sweet and very patient by the way. Good service. Good food. My cousin’s who live in the area say this is their go to spot for fried chicken.

We’ve been to Gus’s several times in the past two months. It’s sheer perfection. Always top notch fried chicken, light and crispy with the breading and piping hot brought to your table. I find it very hot and spicy – enough to make my nose sniffle but still flavorful and delicious. The meat is very juicy, even the breasts which I usually steer clear of at other restaurants because they tend to be dry. Love the fried okra and fried green tomatoes. And don’t forget the fried pickles! We eat these with a little hot sauce in the ranch dressing. Good selection of local beers. You can’t go wrong with this place.

Home fried chicken, a bit spicy but not nearly as much as they indicate. Very thin crusted — they just roll in in the flour and drop it in. Mine was a bit dry and the sides were obvious holdovers from lunch. The chicken was very fresh, people friendly. Lots of seating room. It’s a nice enough spot.

Mmmmmm, mmmmmm… this is what southern fried chicken is all about. Spicy, cooked to perfection with traditional sides to round out your meal. Laid back atmosphere, clean bathrooms, low prices and the waitstaff all had southern accents. What’s not to love? Nothing, and after your meal you can stroll around Oxford square and look at all the preppy stuff in the cute shops.

Not only does Gus’s serve World Famous Chicken, but they also accompany their chicken with incredible sides. Their mac & cheese is to die for and the Cole slaw is the best I have ever had. Don’t miss out on the fried green tomatoes — they’re incredible!

Tastes like the ones in Memphis, can’t find better chicken!

I really like the atmosphere of this place. It’s very inviting, They have two large bars and ample tables and chairs. Decent beer selection although nothing on draught. The potato salad was fine. Mustard based with lots of pickle and egg flavor although I didn’t see any hard boiled eggs and I’m good w/that. Cole Slaw was cole slaw. The chicken was very solid. The skin stayed attached so that you got some skin w/every bite. Very important! I found it to be far too spicy and I’m a Texan that can handle some chile peppers; nevertheless, that’s personal preference so not a knock against Gus’s. The prices are very fair. The svc was friendly and snappy. Why is there another S? Shouldn’t it be Gus’?

I’ve always wanted to try Gus’s and it did not disappoint! The chicken is SOGOOD. It is flavorful and fresh and was served piping hot. I ordered mine with baked beans and potato salad. While the potato salad was a little bland, the chicken made up for it.

Very tasty chicken. Portion of the breasts were decent but if you cant handle spicey, find an alternative. I like spicey but not everyone can. Service was very slow just after the lunch crowd

I have eaten fried chicken all over the world, this is some of the best you will find. No variety though, so if you want anything but fried chicken you have come to the wrong place!

This is some mighty fine fried chicken! I live in New Orleans and we have some great fried chicken but this has way more spice and heat. This is similar to spicy Popeye’s but with more kick and flavor. I think Gus’s is far better chicken than Wille Mae’s Scotch House in New Orleans which has been touted as the best fried chicken in America. I also really like this joint just as a bar as they have great TVs and a nice bar space to just enjoy watching sports. The beer prices are also very fair and affordable compared to most of the other spots around Oxford that have jacked up their prices to New York City levels. Tip: Get the greens as a side because they are great too!!! Request: Please add some foot rests on the bottom of the bar as your bar stools are high and I want a place to put my feet.

As both an Olé Miss alum and a current memphis resident, I have been to Gus’s in Memphis since I was a boy. This was my first time to sample the one in Oxford. It was disappointing to say the least. Upon being seated we were informed that they were out of breasts, which changed the dynamic of all our orders. Refills on drinks were few and far in between and the staff seemed generally aloof. Once the food finally arrived after 30 minutes plus(in a near empty restaurant), the portions were noticeably smaller than the locations in Memphis, yet the prices were still higher. And to add onto that the orders were incorrect. Once we were ready to pay the bill, the waitress managed to incorrectly charge my friend for the meal that I had. I would have made an issue about it but by that time we were just trying to leave. In short, if someone were to ask me if they should sample Gus’s from Oxford, I would wholeheartedly suggest some rural gas station fried chicken instead.

Chicken fried perfectly, you can pick and choose pieces for your plate or family-style for the table. Nothin’ fancy, just delicious. I’d recommend the fries and the beans for sure and don’t sleep on the fried green tomatoes!(Mac is ok, but there is better in town if that’s all you’re in for). TVs are up to watch games and there’s a bar. Free soda/tea refills!

Great flavor, spicy kick. Slaw chopped a little too fine, but great taste. Baked beans, sweet, red skin potato salad very good.
