I enjoy a meal or two at Hook Line and Sinker every time I’m back in Oxnard. You have your choice of all kinds of fish. The fish is always fresh and well seasoned. And the portions are extremely generous. The fries are really tasty as is their cole slaw. The restaurant is clean and well lit and attractively decorated and the prices are very reasonable. Try them. You won’t be disappointed.

A very cute little place in Oxnard, found it through Unilocal after searching the closest seafood place from our hotel. We ordered a few things: — Grilled salmon: A little bit on the bland side, but they do have a lot of condiments on the side so you can flavor it more. The side of fries and tomato basil rice is a good combination if you like carbs. The tomato basil rice is really like a Mexican rice. — Fish and chips: The fish in the fish and chips are so HUGE! There is a perfect amount of batter and the meat and batter sticks together really well. Great value for you money. — Tostada with Ceviche: nothing special but not bad either :) Would definitely recommend it!

There are very few restaurants that serve fresh fish at a reasonable price I had the Mahi Mahi one night and the next day I treated one of our branches to the catfish. Everyone was pleased.

Second visit here because we got a coupon for buy 1-get one free. Fish piece was ok but the shrimp and scallops batter was hard. Fries were the same so-so fare but the coleslaw was better. Not going again unless I get the coupon, just not worth the money for underpar food. I think I’d just get fish pieces and skip anything else.

My go to fish and chips shop for at least 10 years. Fish is always fresh, the batter is so crispy, the fries are thin and crunchy, and they include some coleslaw in the fish and chips order, unlike the«A» place in the Ventura Harbor. Love the wall mural, too! Yes, it’s in a strip mall but I can overlook that.

I got ½ lb of king crab legs and they were not good at all! They were not fresh-Very fishy tasting. I also got the ceviche it was ok. My husband got the grilled salmon and it was yummy just small. Over priced for what we got.

Great seafood and reasonable prices. Excellent New England Clam Chowder, stir-fry, and fish tacos. Good sized portions. Good value for the money.

Where is one to go when having a mad craving for fish and chips, not near the a beach? Well, if you’re living in inland-Oxnard this is where you unfortunately find yourself. Stopped in for lunch with some co-workers who rave about this place like its their last meal… so as a foodie, I had to try it out. It’s located in an old shopping center, so don’t judge a book by it cover. Once your actually in the restaurant they have cute beachy-fishermen-décor which fits right in with their name and theme. So everything and anything seafood is what they offer on the menu here. I opted for their«famous fish and chips.» I have to say that my seafood cravings are very sporadic, meaning if and when I have the rare cravings of seafood, I REALLY, really crave it. Maybe it this day wasn’t the day, because I really didn’t enjoy my halibut and fries. The batter wasn’t quite crispy, more soggy and the quality just wasn’t there for me. I ended up catching a few bites from my co-workers tacos,(should have gotten that instead.) for what you have to pay, I’d say it isn’t worth it… But if you’re a true seafood fan, give this place a try. This is probably my last and only visit here.

Not gonna lie – I only go to Hook, Line, & Sinker when Fisherman’s Catch is closed. You can find more or less the same variety of fish as at Fisherman’s Catch, but the fish usually comes slightly underseasoned and costs a little more, or a lot more if you shell out to upgrade to vegetables and/or sweet potato fries for your sides. Tuna, mahi, Chilean sea bass, and swordfish are all very good, but the highlight is the side of sweet potato fries – ask for them extra-crispy!

QUALITY Fish & Chips joint in our area! Oxnard is a beach town but this is nowhere near da beach, interestingly. So no soothing sounds of waves crashing or seagulls singing ’round here. All u get are sirens & screeching cars off Oxnard Blvd. in the captivating backdrop of Smart & Final Extra! Heh heh ;) This has become our family favorite of all the options available to us here for fish & chips. It’s interior actually has some lovely artistic impressions of what goes on in Nemo’s world as well as teles firing away to help distract you from the window views. Counter service here with friendly helpful staff to guide u thru their large menu. So what did we order? 3PIECEFISH&CHIPS($ 11.25): Of course this for sure! Real question is how many pieces are we getting today?!? HUGE cuts of Alaskan Cod prepared with a yummy crunchy batter that never got soggy. Just the way I prefer it. Hefty serving of fresh & hot fries and probably the best cole slaw I’ve had in years, if ever! So good :) OPAH($ 13.99): Oh My Gosh!!! Never heard of this fish, but we felt bold today and went for it. Really happy we chose it, too! REALLY thick cut of filet, prepared«medium» with some concoction of balsamic vinaigrette marinade on it. This was so delicious, that all of us had the same eye popping amazement face when we sampled it. It’s like the best prepared swordfish I ever had, BUTBETTER! And I prefer swordfish all the time. Nomsters!!! Who cares where this place is located!!! The chow here is BOMBTASTIC! This place is definitely worth your time if yur craving seafood. We sure dig it! REALLYEASYRECOMMENDATION unless you crave a beach or harbor view. In that case you’ll have to settle for something substandard compared to Hook, Line & Sinker ;)

Ordered the fish and chips and clam chowder. Not the best. Soup tasted like a canned soup. The batter doesn’t taste crunchy but the fish was okay. The coleslaw looked old not fresh. I’ve had better elsewhere so kind of disappointed, maybe they have better options on the menu I haven’t tried. The service and people were nice. Probably wouldn’t come back again. I’d recommend Lure or Duke’s as my top two seafood restaurants.

How is it possible that I’ve overlooked reviewing this place for so long. Hook, Line and Sinker has been my favorite local seafood spot for years. Originally named Fresh Catch, the first group of owners had a dispute that ended up in one keeping the name and the other keeping the location; thus, Hook, Line and Sinker was born. Eventually, Mr. Dorado, the restaurants head Chef bought the restaurant but not much else has changed. The service is warm and friendly and the food is always spot on. Facts and Favorites: –Free drink w/lunch combo –10% discount w/Yelp check-in –Rewards card program to earn free meals –Southwest fish tacos w/jalapeño fries –Souper special(2 piece fish combo w/cup of chowder and a drink) –A crispy, flavorful batter I strongly prefer over tempura or panko. –pineapple coleslaw –Half off clam chowder when it’s raining Finally…HUGE pieces of fish. They should really provide a conversion chart. Pieces of fish you normally order=2 # of fish you should order at H, L, S=1 I actually use to come on the all you can eat fish and chips nights they use to have back in the day until I realized it I couldn’t eat more than the 3 piece meal and the 3 piece meal cost less. I recently asked them why they discontinued the promotion and they actually said«because everyone realized the same thing you did.» Try it or Diet Final Word Oh yeah, definitely try it. There’s no harbor view but there’s no harbor view prices either… And it would still be worth it if there were.

All I can say is WOW… this is how a simple but delicious fish fry place should be… Obviously they do more than fish fry you can even buy fresh fish out of their fish counter. Service was friendly, helpful and smiling, atmosphere was upbeat, place was clean and good was delicious.

Lunch specials are what it is about here. Love the options and you cannot beat the price. Salsa was great, Shrimp were ok. I have had better, but mine were slightly overcooked is possibly why. Customer service was great and this is why they are getting 4 stars not 3

The fish and chips are pretty good and on Monday they throw in a extra piece. The $ 3.99 side salad was sad. The best part was the tartar sauce. The cole slaw was ok and has pineapple in it. The service was good and the server was friendly but the restaurant really needs a good wiping down. The condiments on the table all looked worn down and were sticky and need a makeover. The salsa was suppose to be on ice but was floating in warm water.

I keep giving this place a chance cause it’s close to my work but I think today’s experience was the final trip. There is a bunch of seafood places in Oxnard, I can see this one doing ok only cause it’s the only«Fish and Chip» spot really on this side of town. If you are willing to drive closer to some of the other places near the harbor it would be worth the drive(even with high gas prices). But if you like fried dough, then by all means this is the place for you. I had the original combo plate which is 1 fried batter, I mean fish… 3 Fried Shrimp that were flavorless and dry, Fried Scallops, well at least they called them Scallops… I think they were more like fish tots… Oh and the fries which were probably the tastiest part of the dish. Expect more as usual and especially for the price that was spent. I was actually quite surprised when reading the other reviews since this wasn’t my first time here. I use to love it when it first opened but I think there has been a change of ownership or something because it just hasn’t gotten any better since. Nothing really to hype up here…

We keep coming back… and it’s always delicious. I would like to try other things on the menu but can’t pass up the Fish, Shrimp, Scallop and Chips dinner. Had a friend come from out of town the other day and this is where we took him. We all ordered the same thing. There was not one bit of food left on his plate. I am guessing he likes it too.
