It was, meh. I liked that it was a somewhat unique experience sitting on the raised floor with butt cushions while eating. The food itself lacked flavor and wasn’t very tasty. I probably won’t be back.

Fresh fish, very affordable and has an arcade to entertain the kids. Interesting location though, you have two sides of the place to choice additional plates if your interested.

Great sushi, very affordable! The important thing is the food and service are always on point. I have been eating here for years, and it always good. I feel the need to defend some of the criticisms though. People complaining about the location and décor need to understand that it is located in a food court with three other businesses sharing a central dining area. The fish fry, Korean restaurant, sushi, and Japanese kitchen are separate businesses. And some of the reviews are either missing that point or glossing over it completely. It is resulting in some misplaced criticism. Anyway, Fisherman’s Sushi is expertly prepared and priced at a point that will not break the bank. It is worth a look, if you looking for good food and don’t worry too much about superfluous things like ‘décor’ or ‘being noticed’. I go there to eat and am never disappointed.

I love that they take the sheepshead fish straight from the tank and prepare it fresh sashimi-style and then use the bones for a soup but not only was our meal extremely expensive, it was just really not that good. We came here after seeing the photos of mountains of beautiful fresh sashimi all over Unilocal. This dish is $ 60 and is meant for 2 people. They serve a ton of food. You get the huge platter of korean-style sashimi, rice, banchan-type sides(pickled veggies, fermented bean paste and kimchi), fish tempura, and then a spicy fish soup at the end. We also ordered two fresh ama ebi(sweet shrimp) which were $ 5 each. I knew not to expect the sashimi to be like Japanese sashimi in that it isn’t as tender and is meant to be eaten wrapped in lettuce and topped with the bean paste and some spicy sauce. But it was just so chewy it was difficult to eat it even like this. The ama ebi were huge and fresh but not very sweet like I normally expect. The soup at the end was bland and not spicy. Our bill came out to be almost $ 100 with tip. The service is nice but the restaurant is located in a deserted strip mall and furnished with old and plastic tables and chairs outside or there’s tatami style seating offered inside. I don’t mind the price of meals usually but I couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed and unsatisfied leaving this place after having paid so much for only okay food. Seems older and family-owned so I’m sure they cater to regular customers. It is a ton of food so it was worth it in that aspect, and I took all the leftover fish and made a yummy ceviche with it at home. The sashimi is beautiful but unless you’ve had this before, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting to dine on flavorful and tender fish.

Best sushi in the area to me. Not the ideal place to find it but it’s my go to place for the best sushi! Its in a older food court that is in need of updating for sure.

Just had the worst experience possible ever they literally tried to rob me and then play dumb as if they could be any dumber. They overcharged me and then gave me my to go order which clearly stated a lower price then I was charged and when I asked them about it it took them 20 minutes of looking for receipts until they finally realize they couldn’t find it and pretty much just said F you. No customer service and then everyone behind the sushi bar was very threatening and vogue about it. Bad people. I live in the harbor and know this is happened more than once. Be sure to check your bills people

Moved to the area in ’95 and have come to eat at(what our family refers to only as) «The Halibut Place» 2 or 3 times a month every month since. What should you eat? The grilled halibut & add garlic and jalapeños. Comes with rice and coleslaw which are excellent. For the carb conscious ask them to substitute steamed veggies for one or both sides. The scallops, calamari and chips combo is also excellent. The calamari is cut in thin strips ala chicken strip style. Dip these in cocktail sauce and enjoy. We have always eaten in the food court area but there is also traditional Korean style tables and seating in the back. The view of the marina is always and added bonus. Great place to meander for a walk post Sunday afternoon meal. Service is always prompt and friendly. Food is delicious and the prices are great.

Love the sushi and the fried seafood. There is a noodle that is almost like glass(maybe called a glass noodle idk) it’s $ 9 but it’s there best thing in my opinion. I will update later when I go again a post the name.

This is definitely one of the most interesting food experiences we’ve had. We came here expecting to visit the food stand next door Fisherman’s House Sushi but once I saw the fresh Pacific Sheepshead in the tank I decided I wanted that instead. I asked how they prepared the fish and I was told that it is sashimi for 2 people and the price is $ 60. We decided to go for it and were told to go around back where they had this kind of tatami like room set up. It looked a little like someone’s back yard. Kids toys were strewn about, there was an upright fridge and just didn’t look very restaurant like. We sat down on some pillows, ordered a pitcher of beer and then were told that the sashimi also came with tempura & a spicy fish soup. Little by little the huge Korean feast began to materialize. They brought out this huge platter of Pacific Sheepshead sashimi, a tempura plate that consisted of zucchini, onion rings and fish! For the sashimi they had all the fixins: bean paste, lettuce to make lettuce wraps, raw jalapeño & garlic slices, a spicy sauce, pickled ginger, and of course wasabi. We were told that the best way to enjoy is to place 1 or more slices of fish in the lettuce and add bean paste, garlic, jalapeño and the spicy sauce and eat it like a lettuce wrap. The fish was remarkably fresh. Apparently this a popular dish and they take the fish directly from their tank and prepare the sashimi to order. AND nothing goes to waste. After the meal and after we were already full they brought out this spicy fish soup. They use the fish carcass to prepare this beautiful, garlicky, and spicy fish soup. This is served rustic style with bones and even the jaw still in the soup. it really was an amazing meal. My wife did fill up mostly on the tempura and she didn’t enjoy the sashimi as much as I did. I love texture and the sashimi is a little more firm than what she is used to. The Pacific Sheepshead is more of a grazer so its flesh and muscles become more firm. The tempura they served was delicious. I’m telling you if they put that battered fish in a corn tortilla with some cabbage and that spicy sauce they already have it would be a top seller! If you are ever in the area and want a unique dining experience stop by this place and look for the tanks with the big toothed red & black fish.

Best sushi around. In a «food court» setting but don’t let that fool you. Beneficial because you can bring kids or a large group. Great service, great food. Been eating here 15+ years. Casual setting with top notch food. Always busy with customers but great service. Popular place.

They really deserve 3.5 stars. It’s fresh but kind of average sushi… but still good, and cheaper than most places. Hits the spot when you need fresh, quick sushi in your flip flops. The real test? My 11 year old catches his own tuna locally that he devours within hours of catching… he still asks for a spicy tuna roll from Fishermans anytime he can get it! Service may sometimes be slow, but it’s the beach. Slow(er) pace works. Just go with it. Waitress is always sweet, and will ask to refill your drinks if she’s not slammed. We never sit at the sushi bar, but the chefs look friendly. Don’t forget to leave a tip — I think the waitresses taking care of tables often get stiffed. Building does look a little dumpy, but food and utensils have always been up to par.

Drove about hour or two from LA to get some sashimi. Owner said they will have sashimi around 4pm. My family was so hungry we just decided to get some Korean spicy fish soup and fried clams. One thing that surprised me was how it was inside some random food court and it did not look sanitary. Sorry to say but the soup was so watery that all the ingredients inside weren’t visible. It was loaded with MSG, my mom was afraid to even drink water out of their water jug since it was so dirty. We ate in 20min and left the place. We will not be going back. I rather hit redondo beach or San Pedro for better service, better quality, esp place that serves better sanitation.

Greasy, deep fried food. They literally took food out of a plastic bag in the freezer and put it in the fryer. I would recommend the water, nothing else.

I’ve been here twice now. And both times, the fish was fresh, and the shrimp was DEEEELLIICCIOUSS! For the amount of food you get, the price is not bad at all. Now, I’ve never had the fish and chips and all that here, but the sashimi style food was great. Make sure you sit in the back part of the restaurant where they bring you sides, lettuce wraps, garlic, and red soy bean paste!

I was so looking forward to this place when we decided to head up to Oxnard after a day of Camarillo shopping. I had never been to Oxnard(passed through a few times on the way to Santa Barbara), and was expecting sort of a mini-SB. Not quite that, I likened it more to a poor man’s Dana Point as I drove through it. As we parked at the building where we saw the sign in Korean, «Fisherman’s House», I was pretty impressed — cool building on the marina, sizable parking lot. Well, the old adage«Don’t judge a book by its cover» applies here aptly, although in not-so-positive light. Sort of like Davinci Code — fancy cover, not much substance. From the outward appearance, I was expecting decent set of tables and seats and some semblance of décor. Instead, what you get is a couple of ordering counters — one for sushi and another for fried and fresh catch seafood. And then it’s a bunch of folding tables and plastic chairs in a spartan(and I mean NO décor whatsoever) setting. You order sushi & rolls(and other Japanese dishes) from one server, and then if you want fried or fresh seafood you have to go to the counter to order separately. Kind of confusing but server was nice and so were the counter people. We ordered several rolls and a fresh sea cucumber, a beef teriyaki bento for the nephew, and a fried squid and scallop platter fries. The food was generally good, and that’s what saves this place. Rolls were fresh if not spectacular, and the fried food was pretty good as well. Wasn’t crazy about the tempura as it was too thick for the size of the meat and not light, but taste was good. The teriyaki was just okay, the meat was overcooked but tempura was pretty good(note tempura here and the squid/scallops were from different places). The sea cucumbers were fresh and outstanding. It wasn’t too hard, but just firm enough. Just the perfect consistency. So just decent but unspectacular food for the most part, downright spartan space bordering on grungy, and confusing system can’t make up for good service and pretty good price(came out to $ 100+ for 5 so it wasn’t that cheap). Driving an hour to experience it? I’ll pass on that but suppose if you live close, it would be decent. Table-for-1 Factor: Like I said, completely devoid of any atmosphere so you won’t even be noticed sitting there alone.

It’s bit of a drive from Thousand Oaks and definitely a LONG drive from LA area. However, I don’t think there is anything like this anywhere but here. It has everything from fried seafood to fresh sashimi served Korean style. The food court is yes old and outdated a bit but it’s about the food quality and the service. I opted to have the Korean sashimi and steamed dungeness crabs with Korean soju for 2 people. It is a bit expensive since the sashimi also comes with spicy fish soup made from the rest of fish bones, lettuce, sliced cucumber and carrots, garlic and korean fresh green pepper. For service, she gave us fried fish and vegetables along with fresh sea cucumbers. It has a nice view of the boat docking area. You can sit at a table or sit on top of wooden patio by the window like a trust Korean. Yeah it just hurts after awhile so keep that in mind. I took a walk around the docking area to digest since I ate EVERYTHING; I shall return.

The food court is a bit run down, nothing fancy, in fact, it might make you stay away. I came back to go to a different place: however, The Fisherman’s house was open. I’m also NOT a fan of friend food. But I had a couple of fried items. Frankly, everything about this place is normally what I wouldn’t do. But, it was late, I was tired, didn’t want to cook and a person needs some fried stuff in thier life from time to time. The fish: was fresh: fried perfectly. Zuchini, fried perfectly AND crisp. Onion rings, better than the Zuchini. The breading was great, not doughy, not a grease sponge, not not chewy. Service was fast, which might be because the crowd was light, but still fast. It’s super relaxed, great place to have a conversation about the day and shoot the @#$# with your friends over a great plate of comfort food. And. they have beer if you’re not driving.
