Ordered the shrimp fajitas — very good. Chips /salsa also very good. Good place to eat and the prices a good.

The service here is horrendous! But it’s consistent! Every time we come here the food is really good and it comes out fast. The only challenge is the brain dead staff that actually blocks your way from enjoying the good food. Need silverware for your meal? More chips and salsa? Water to drink? Forget about it. The help nods their head and then disappears into a black hole. I’m guessing this is a family owned restaurant that hires family that is completely inept and incompetent at serving customers. Sorry mom and pop, please hire someone besides family!

Have visited this superb Mexican restaurant three times and have had excellent service and food each and every time. I wish there was one in Arizona. I wide and diverse menu sure to please anyone with particular tastes. Highly recommended.

Not sue why this restaurant is underrated. We ordered Chili Rellenos &2 carne asada tacos, chicken tostada and an ala carte chili rellenos. All was really delicious. The staff was very attentive. Salsa was homemade. Chips need some work as some were soggy(big no no) margarita was tasty and had plenty of tequila. And Coors was served ice cold and in a bottle. Food was served with 10 minutes pipping hot. Great meal — all for $ 30!

Just average. Nothing special. We ordered dinner to go. I asked for a water while I waited and it took the waitress awhile to bring it over even with the place being mostly empty. The guacamole had no lid on the little container when they put it in the bag. The shrimp meal was like soup and spilled all over the bag and table when I took it out. It should have been in a soup type bowl. Chips came with a salsa big enough for one person even though we ordered three entrees. The rice doesn’t have much flavor.

El Jefes If you’re in for an authentic mexican spot. This is it! Look no more. Every time we are in town we just have to stop here. The waiters are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. They take care of you like if you’re their only customers. Sexy as waiterskeep up the good job. This family own business know how to take care of you. Recommend Pollo a la Diabla.

Everything was Excellent! The chips and salsa was delicious. I had the cheese enchiladas with red sauce and they were amazing. You can also order tongue chicken, and ground beef for your tacos and they are all amazing, especially the Tongue!!! Overall great place for dinner. The only note is that the red sauce is a little spicy for younger kids. The service is excellent.

The chips, salsa and guacamole were pretty good. They were a little bland however. I ordered the mole chicken enchiladas — they were really good. The rice, beans and salad complimented it well, too. I really enjoyed my meal but my waiter never came over to ask me how my food was. I had to go to the take out window to pay my bill, because I still couldn’t find my server anywhere. I’d go back for the food, not the service.

I was there in November, and really enjoyed the meal. I have to admit it was some of the best mexican food I have had in awhile. However my little podunk town in Ca has no clue what Mexican food is. So i was very pleased that this little town had such good food. Both of us ate a good meal for less than $ 20. very pleased.

Service was fast and friendly. Chips and salsa arrived quickly. Based on the rim of the corn tortillas I had with my main course, I would guess that they fry their own chips. They are a little thicker than I prefer, but had good crunch. I was pleased that they were not overly-salted. The salsa was a little sweet, but had fresh cilantro and onion. It has potential if they added a little salt, more onion, and jalapeño kick. My taste buds were in no danger of spontaneous combustion. I ordered Tres Sabores(three flavors). Grilled chicken, shrimp, and beef, served with rice, beans, pico de gallo and choice of corn or flour tortillas. Although the shrimp were on the small side, they were perfectly cooked. The chicken and beef were sliced very thin and as a result, were overcooked. I know it makes it look like more food to slice this way, but I would rather have my meat look small, and taste big. The grilled meats grew cold quickly because the plate was not hot enough. An avoidable error. The rice and beans were utterly unremarkable. They were put on the plate without any love at all. The texture of the beans was good, but they were flavorless. A little salt and a ham hock during cooking would really improve them. The rice was yellow, but not from being cooked chicken stock with some onion. Again, flavorless. This is a real sin, because I _like_good rice and beans. They shouldn’t be relegated to 2nd-class standing. If it goes on the plate, it needs to enhance the meal. I am not sure if I will return while I am in town this week.

Good fresh guacamole! My #1 judge for any Mexican Restaurant. The chips were a little greasy. and salsa was just ok. Very friendly waitress. Main courses were large and above average for a small town.

Okay, maybe 5 stars isn’t quite accurate, but in my opinion the incredible consistency and good quality of the food at a low price at El Jefe’s makes this a great place. I have probably eaten here 25 times, and they have NEVER screwed up my meal. I love the fajitas, my kids like the quesadillas. Had to get used to walking in and finding our own table. Service is solid but not blazing fast. And price has to be factored in — the food is very fairly priced.

Walked in and no greeting. Had to ask if we just find a seat. And you do. Very few people in the restaurant, but more than half of the tables had not been cleared. Should have turned around and left! Thought we would give it a chance. Sat down and waited! And waited! And… you get it. Finally got some water and a very greasy basket of chips. Ordered right then, from a menu off another table. Don’t let the wait staff walk away, you will not see them again! Got our food… Not worth the wait! Seemed like someone was in a hurry to put the plates together. Not sure why, no hurry to serve them… waited for the check! And waited… Yep lots of waiting! Had to go ask for the check, that had not been prepared yet! Save yourself some time and money! Find anywhere else to eat!,

Always good! Tonight it was extra good!!! Had the chicken diablo and enchiladas which were hot and fresh! I would have taken a picture but I ate everything by the time I remembered!!! They are probably the best Mexican place in town!

We were coming into late so picked up some take out to take to our room. Service was fast. Got a beer while we waited. Servers all seemed bored. Had chile relleno and pork tacos. Both were traditional Tex-mex fare. Not bad but I wouldn’t make a special stop. Was filling and hit the spot as we were tired. Good spice to the dishes.

LOVED the food here! I got the pork tacos and was blown away by how tender and flavorful they were. The salsa was amazing and the service was very good. Atmosphere there is a bit meh, but I was there for the food and for that they get 5 stars.

We had our dog in the car and went in and ordered carry out at the cashier. Very friendly staff. The Carnita plate was delicious, pork seasoned and tender, very good. My husband ordered the Carne Asada Burrito. He thought the meat was great. Our carry out came with tasty chips also! We plan on dining in, next time. Looking forward to that.

El Hubbo and I we in town staying at Spring Mountain Motorsports & Resort and I was craving a margarita. We were skeptical about coming to El Jefe because it really had mixed reviews from fellow Unilocalers, but we went anyway(I like to live on the edge, hence the reason I was even in this town in the first place at Spring Mtn Motorsports). We arrived and were surprised that the lot had several cars. That’s a good sign IMO. One of the staff greeted us promptly and sat us down. We got chips and salsa, which were very good. We ordered our margaritas and since we knew we were getting fajitas, we ordered that at the same time. I am surprised that others commented on it being slow … quite the contrary for us … our food and ritas were out within 15 minutes max. Since we are use to Tex-Mex, the fajitas were a little different for us in that they came with zucchini and bell peppers(versus the jalapeños & onions that were use to). Not a big deal because they were tasty! They were a little on the salty side to me, but as I always mention in my reviews, this is an issue with me, because I don’t use salt and it may be just right for someone else. The tortillas did seem to smell as though they were store bought(like the low carb tortillas I buy back home) but they tasted fine and it wasn’t really a big deal. El Hubbo was also disappointed that they didn’t have Chile con Queso, but again, this may just be a Tex-Mex thing. Nonetheless, he lived to see another day even though he couldn’t have it. While I cannot say I was«over the top, blown away», if I found myself in town again, I would most likely stop back by.
