Have gone to the Central with a group of 4 – 8 several times in the last couple of years. Prices are good. Food is good, though not great. Service always good. One couple always has potato salad and love it enough to ask for a container-full to take home. I’ve only had dessert once, but enjoyed it ~ appears to be homemade and huge serving. Watch your sizing. One of my dining companions has found that the large salad is huge. The medium is pretty near huge. The small is still good sized. If you don’t want much salad, skip those choices and ask for a side salad. It’s your own fault if you go away hungry. Large outside seating area, with overhead tenting, in the rear of the building. Or is it the side, or the front. Hard to tell with the Central.

Crappy service. It’s crazy to see 3 people get seated after me and they get there food and check before my meal even comes out. Discrimination at its finest! I will never eat at this chain!!!

Food is sub-par and over priced(think of a diner minus the diner prices). A single fish fry and a side of mac and cheese to go was $ 30. Also have been there to order just drinks and french fries– they came out with only about 9 french fries on the plate. I questioned this and was told they were understaff and running low on food so they couldn’t give me a full order… unfortunately they didn’t lower the price considering I got a fraction of the size. Also, waitresses don’t seem to want to work but just do enough to get by. You will need to hunt them down if you want a refill. Honestly, there are much better places in town where you can get more bang for your buck. P. S. There acclaimed«meatless» spaghetti sauce actually have meat in it even though most of the waitresses are unaware of this and will tell you otherwise. The owner does admit to this when you ask him to directly.

Homemade taste. Ordered salmon entrée and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Both delicious. Ambiance is casual, local. Friendly and attentive staff. Welcoming. Free refills. First time here.

We were staying overnight at a hotel in Painted Post and found this place on Unilocal. It was a good choice for 2 low-maintenance adults and 2 kids. Went for dinner on a Thurs(Italian night), chose the spaghetti & meatball special. It wasn’t great. Not my favorite kind of sauce — it was dark, sorta thick and had very little flavor. Meatballs were also boring. Best dish on the table was the kid’s «fish fingers». The salad was fresh and crunchy and the simple Italian bread in the bread basket was good. Homemade Oreo cookies were pretty good and the serving looked like it should have cost way more than the $ 1 price! Our server was friendly, but not smothering, and did a great job anticipating our needs. Big outdoor seating area(we sat inside due to the weather). Kid-friendly staff seated us right next to the big fish tank. Bathrooms were clean. Prices are very reasonable. Would go again, but not for the pasta.

We had breakfast there this past weekend and it was great. The service is great and the food had an old school italian twist which I loved. I will go there for breakfast everytime we are there. You can feel family oozing out of the walls and all the old photos are fantastic. You can feel history while ypu eat.

Oh yes, The Central. It’s where you eat in the Post when you want to meet up with friends and catch up on the goss. Their daily specials are awesome. Love the mac and cheese and the chicken and biscuit special. Also if it is summer and they have the strawberry shortcake special, do not pass it up! Know that service can be slow, but just roll with it.

Definitely a home grown, home operated restaurant. Interior is 50s casual with pictures of family, from 3 generations hanging on the wall. The menu is also Italian 50s comfort food. Our table had the pulled pork sandwich, shrimp, stuffed rigatoni, and chicken fingers… all good. Very friendly, welcoming service. Just a homey place to hang out for awhile… love these places. Tanta gracia!

The Central is a quintessential small town diner. It’s definitely a local favorite amongst long time residents. It’s not uncommon to see lines going out the door, especially on Friday nights.

Best fish fry in town! Best fried everything pretty much! Fried zucchini, fried mushrooms, fried mozzarella sticks, fried onion rings, fried cordon bleu balls(bleu balls, that’s funny), fried cauliflower, fried chicken strips, fried popcorn chicken, fried french fries, and of course fried fish! Gotta LOVE it! The clam chowder was actually pretty tasty but it wasn’t fried. Darn! The macaroni and cheese was death-defying enough as is and didn’t need to be fried, though some deep fried macaroni and cheese balls sounds pretty good now don’t it? Got the blackened cod(not fried), but I think the blackened red snapper might actually have been better. Minus 1 star cuz Poochie’s all about eating healthy, but when in Painted Post… Plus the cole slaw was pretty lame. I hate lame cole slaw! Great service!
