Located inside the Westfield Palm Desert Mall, this place is known for its cheese on a stick. It is basically a corn dog without the meat, perfect for my vegetarian partner. He had the pepper jack and american cheese on a stick, I had a bite of it, was not really a fan of it. For me, I had the hot dog on the stick, aka corn dog. It was really juicy, not dry at all and the breading was not thick either. Paired with their lemonade, the corn dog is delicious. I will definitely revisit this location when I am in the mall because the ladies working there still let me make a purchase right as they were closing.

I have always loved these places and am so happy they now offer all-beef hot dogs as an option for your corn dog as well as their usual turkey dogs. The cheese on a stick is always a decadent treat. I wish this location served fish on a stick as well but I don’t know if any of them do this anymore. The crew is always friendly and helpful, and Kourtney must be their queen. She seems to remember everything we order every time we show up – gives the place a small-town familiarity which is nice.

I’m going to try not to give such a biased opinion of this place, but you know, I can only do so much. So starting off, solely basing on the quality of food, Hot Dog on a Stick does do an amazing corndog. The food was speedy for a busy mall, it was fresh, and was cooked to perfection; neither overcooked nor dough-y. We also had an order of funnel cake, which was displayed just like fries would be, but covered with powdered sugar and a fruit glaze. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his veggie dog on a stick. For being a vegetarian and never had tried their veggie dog, he was very impressed. Its hot dog on a stick though, its pretty much a carnival hotdog stand in a mall. As for the service, it wasn’t too great. One of the employees were very friendly, and help answer all the question we had regarding their menu. The register lady, however, was not as friendly. She had an air, seeming like she could care less what we wanted, and how welcomed we felt. We could overhear her telling a patron how much she wanted to leave and not be there. But you know, I can’t solely base my rating on a rant, so that’s why I give this place 2 stars instead of 1.

If you’re ever shopping in a mall, craving a corn dog… STOPIT. Because, it is highly likely the only place serving corn dogs will be Hot Dog on a Stick. Just for myself — I paid a whopping, $ 11.64 for two corn dogs, small fries and a small lemonade!!! After all was said and done — I netted two small wooden chopsticks(hot dog skewers) and was still hungry! Yes, the fries were hot and the corn dogs were fresh-made…but the Wolfgang Puck price was completely unjustified. Not only are you paying the space rent for the small stand — but also for those silly outfits late founder Dave Barham has made every employee male OR female wear… since God knows when. I say WAIT next time you want corn dogs, simply because AM/PM Mini Mart has exactly what you crave, for LESSTHAN ¼th the cost. I saved my two wooden sticks and walked across the Food Court to finish my meal at Panda Express…
