Amazing lamb kabobs and gyros. Everything is fresh.

3.5 easy for a grab and go chicken rotating vertical spit grilled wrap, Turkish doner style. decent grilled veggies with it, but not as great flavor as a place like Mediterranean Wraps in the area.

Very mediocre place. I ordered Spinapakota — turned out very small but the price was almost $ 6. I asked to get it warmed

There’s almost never a line, yet this place has the best hummus, falafel, Greek salad, etc of all the Mediterranean places. And they give you tea! They’re baklava is out of this world better than any other I’ve tried. Great friendly people working here and the food it fresh, tastes 100%legit and made in house. My new favorite spot on university for good fresh, filling, casual food.

The place was empty and depressing. Should have realized right away it was not going to be a good choice. Price was expensive for the lack of quality. We got a grilled platter of meats(meat kebabs weren’t fresh you could taste it) while the lamb and chicken were fine. Falafel wrap had barely 4 falafel balls and was just bread wrap. Bad falafels. The hummus was okay but a different taste than what I’m used to. Overall, just skip this place.

This review is specifically for their beef and lamb gyro. Now I’ve been to plenty of places downtown for a gyro but this one truly surpasses them all. The lavash wrap is made toasted which gives a crisp texture into every bite. The meat is cooked to perfection while being soaked by Tahitian sauce. The price of one is about $ 8, just like the other gyro wraps in downtown. Another interesting thing about this place, is that they use Tapatio hot sauce as oppose to the traditional red chili sauce. I like this idea of Tapatio much better! If it came down to it, I say go here for their gyros!

I ordered the chicken gyro wrap and it was okay. They provided a fair amount of meat but grease constantly dripped from the bottom. It satisfied my hunger but I don’t know if I will go back. Service was a little sloppy as well.

Good food all around. A big step up from a generic gyro place. We had a gyro salad and chicken kebabs, with baklava for dessert. Everything tasted great, though the chicken was a little bland. The owner(?) was friendly.

Been here multiple times. Easy location in Palo Alto. Halal meat is served here. We have tried the kebabs, falafel, wraps, and a lamb dish that comes in an earthen pot. The food is decent. Service isn’t that great. They were the only ones to be open on Christmas Day last year.

Let me begin by saying we are EXTREMELY picky :)! I rate on behalf of my colleagues who simply told me their food was just alright. The specific worth mentioning is the naan was not fresh! I think a huge part of a Mediterranean meal is the naan! Some places kick ass with their naan quality, so we fully understand they won’t all be amazing, but this was very chewy and tough to eat. The flavors were good though, and it was definitely good enough. But we have experienced better… DishDash is our standard. Café 220 is eh!

My granddaughter took me here for dinner since I was in town and she wanted to take me to dinner… The place was cozy and delightful. The food was incredible, especially the dolmas. Actually, they were the best ones I had ever had and the pudding was so good, I didn’t want it to end. The owner was especially nice and accomodating. I wish I didn’t live 3 hours away or I would eat there very often. I still drool when I think about it…

The place was not crowded but the sign stating«casual Mediterranean» was intriguing. I ordered the chicken kebab and my friend had a lamb and beef gyro. The cashier/manager informed me that the kebab would take around ten minutes to cook, which was okay with me. When the food came out, it had been apparent that I was given a beef kebab instead of chicken. I asked the server to change it, and had to wait again for another to be cooked. My friend and I shared their dish until mine came out. When the chicken kebab did arrive, it was not very flavorful. Probably the least flavorful Mediterranean kebab in recent memory. My friend had ordered a Turkish coffee, which was delivered at the end of the meal. They had complained to me that it was made too sweet and that they didn’t want to ask the server to change, since we already had too much other discrepancies with our meal. At a previous Mediterranean place we had eaten at a week earlier, they asked us if we would like cream in our coffee. Café 220 didn’t give an option and just brought it out sweet. It is actually better if they would bring it out unsweetened: at least then you could ask them to make it sweet, afterward. Overall the experience was the definition of mediocre and I was regretful we had not gone to the Mediterranean restaurant a few blocks down that had more of a classic diner aesthetic(which had more people dining there, than Café 220, when we walked by).

A friend and I were walking down university and decided to try this Mediterranean place. We both ordered the falafel plate with a hummus and pita appetizer. The falafel plates were about $ 10 each, not bad pricing but it was lame. The hummus was very bland and the baba ganoush was flavorless. The salad was ok but very simple. The falafel was great. When we received out appetizer($ 6), we were shocked. It was a small plate with one pita cut into pieces and a quarter cup of hummus. We asked if this came with refills because it was SO small. No refills and the guy said we were paying $ 6 for the hummus. Ummm… excuse me? The hummus was bland as can be and was definitely not worth $ 6. The attitude we received was very unappealing and no, we won’t be coming back here.

Let me just be blunt, the food here is terrible. The lamb, beef, and chicken all had no flavor, plus they gave me attitude when I pointed out that they got my order wrong. I had ordered the lamb shish kabob wrapper and they gave me chicken instead. When I walked up to the guy who made the food and pointed out that it was chicken, he pulled out the receipt and said I ordered chicken and just stared blankly at me so I walked away. My boyfriend then went up to the cashier who also insisted that I had ordered the chicken, which is #23. When my boyfriend pointed at the menu and said #23 says it’s lamb, they still didn’t offer to remake my food. I was very disappointed by the lack of accommodation and was even more irritated that they kept insisting that’s what I ordered when I clearly had ordered the lamb. After about 30 minutes, they probably realized they should have remade my food and brought us 2 small cups of tea and a small plate of lamb. By then we had already finished eating so it was a little too late. They should have at least offered to remake my food initially rather than accusing me of lying. Needless to say, I will never be going back to eat here.

The best things about Café 220 are its consistently good quality food, its quick service, and its ample seating. We often find ourselves coming when in the area on errands. And, while it never finds its way to the top of our list of places we really are craving, its simple, no-nonsense style always finds us going pretty regularly. I’m a fan. First, the food. I love chicken at Mediterranean places, but I wasn’t too satisfied with the chicken plate here(though my girlfriend loves it). I found it kind of dry and kind of bland. On the other hand, I adore the lamb and beef gyro plate here. In the 10+ times I’ve come, I haven’t found myself wanting anything else. They also have a big menu, filled with things like spanakopita and other pastries, and many more kebab/gyro/etc type dishes. Second, their service is quick. If you only have maybe half an hour to eat, that’s plenty. You order at the counter and it comes out usually within 5 – 10 minutes. Third, the seating. For some reason whenever we come it’s quite empty. For most places this might be a downside, but the food is good and this also allows us to bring our massive Sunday groups here(12+ people) with no extra hassle. Big plus in my books. In the end, Café 220 is a good, solid place that I enjoy more often than not. It’s a bit expensive, but the plates(~$ 13) are at least a good amount of food and, really, the prices are not out of line with University Ave. What puts me over the top is that their hot sauce has a nice kick — that always endears a place to me. :)

Very good quality of the ingredients. At least my friend Yadira and myself were very satisfied with our lamb kebab plates(and even her little one was happily eating, considering that he does not like to eat just whatever, this was a success!). We actually did not expect much of this place and were looking for Thai food, but the Thai close by was not offering more food(it was around 2:30, which was strange for us), but luckily we stumble upon Café 220. It has a fast-food format: go, check the menu, pay and sit. Food is served to the table but do not expect a fancy place. You go there for the food and if you sit at the tables next to the window then you have nice view of people passing by. I will go back again and again, and loved the tea offered complimentary.
