The Van Cleve Collection

My mother popped into van Cleve to start looking for my brothers up coming wedding. Being that we are from the Main Line this was the obvious recommended spot to go.
Ironically reading the last review did not swing us away from the store which is unfortunate because we had a very similar experience with the snotty woman who represents Van Cleve. It seems as though our business was not welcome there. The woman barely acknowledged my mom. When she caught the first whiff of attitude, instead of name dropping she decided to just act like she was someone random strolling in to browse. And when I say name dropping I mean naming our connections to the the store.
She was offered ZERO help what so ever which pretty much infuriates not only myself but my little brother and his fiancé.
Gladly taking business elsewhere.

Moms and I, while Mother of the Bride dress shopping at the VanCleve… it’s two little houses — one with wedding stuff (we didn’t go in) and one with general women’s wear on one floor and prom and mother of the bride stuff on the other floor.
We went in and were told «just one minute» which turned into 15 while we poked around in the dowdy room… and then we got taken into the better area and shown around.
We found a few things to try on– the woman seemed really unclear on what it is that we wanted even though I explained to her a few times– not square neck, preferably pants, detail in the top (mom liked beading).
She tried on a bunch of stuff and the woman was a lot more hands on– which I liked– in the last dress, she walked her out to the three-​way mirror and crouched down behind her, holding all the excess fabric back so that mom could see what the dress would look like if it were fitted.
Then, this seems to be a problem on the main line, some woman comes in and they know each other and they get to chatting and it’s *all* I can do to get them to stop talking about pilates or whatever and help us out… we’re in our last dress, we like it, we have questions. I know you’re only working because you’re bored– but close the deal.
Overall it was fine and the selection was actually pretty good… but I’ve had much better service elsewhere.
