Mmm by far my favorite steakhouse in southern California, way better then Mastro and Mastro was my fav. Im surprised i did not leave a review at all yet… Came here twice within two days, one for an annual christmas dinner with my good girlfriend and the 2nd night my best guy friend treated me to dinner here. I wont lie, this place is not cheap but the service and food here is amazing, worth every cent. Coming back for an early V-day dinner with the boyfriend. Yum! Date: 12÷26÷15&12÷27÷15 Ambience: classy and upscale Price: $$$$ Service: impeccable Food: First night: Started off with a glass Tattinger champagne for me and a omakase cocktail for my good girlfriend which started the night perfectly as we chatted and traded gifts. For our meal, we decided to share the following: Truffle butter edamame(4⁄5) it added an interesting taste to the edamame but it was good. Seared beef tataki(4⁄5) it melts in your mouth and their are little crunchy peppercorns that give it a kick. Sometimes a little overpowering. We were served an amuse bouche which was a bite sized egg roll with xo sauce and it was delicious. Szechuan shishito pepper rubbed ribeye cooked med(5⁄5) this was their off menu special and it was cooked perfectly. The spices gave a good kick to each bite. Now i warn you, I eat super spicy and I am not saying this was overly spicy since for me it was just the right amount of kick but if I can taste the kick then it will be bad for those who cannot have spicy at all. Mashed Potato(4⁄5) it was loaded with butter and super creamy. Mmmm… it was good but way too much butter though Eryngii Mushrooms(5⁄5) i love mushrooms and this is their take on sautéed mushrooms. It was yummy. We shared everything and still did not finish. We were so full that we could not even look at the dessert menu. To end the night we had one final amuse bouche which was a sorbet with frozen pears and a tray of chocolate petite four with a to go bite of peanut brittle. Yum! The service we got was impeccable. I cant think of my server name on the top of my head but he was excellent including everyone else from start to finish that made the night very enjoyable. Second night: My best guy friend took me to dinner here, it just happen he had pick this place too. It was fine by me, i enjoyed the night before. Again I started off with a glass of Tattinger champagne and he had a glass of the omakase cocktail(déjà vu) lol. We also ordered a bottle of this very good bordeaux that was decanted and went well with the food. We shared the following appetizers Grilled octopus(4⁄5) it was light and refreshing Amuse bouche was the same as i had the night before night. I had the 20oz C.A.B prime rib cooked med well with seared foie gras(5⁄5) they only make two roast a night and last night they ran out by 7:30pm. I can see why, it was so tender and the au jus on top made it even better. I ordered seared foie gras on the side and it melts in your mouth with every bite of the prime rib. Delicious. I love me my duck liver. Yum! He had the 20oz Aurora Angus ribeye chop cooked med rare. this was cooked perfectly. I only had a bite and it was delicious. We shared the same side dishes as i had the night before. :) For dessert, they gave us a complementary chocolate soufflé with Oreo cookies and it was delicious. It melted in my mouth.(5⁄5) We also ordered a tart which was mehh(2⁄5) the soufflé was the best dessert. And again. we had one final amuse bouche which was a sorbet with pears and a tray of chocolate petite four and a to go bite of peanut brittle. :) By the end of the night we were stuff with plenty of to go and service again was excellent. This is my new fav steakhouse though it is much more expensive.

Very pricey, but you really get what you pay for. We showed up early to our reservations and our table wasn’t ready, so we made our way to their bar. The bartenders are ALL awesome. They make THE best Old Fashioned. It was awesome. They make it TEXTBOOK. Tipped them nicely then made our way to our table. The service is phenomenal. We were greeted with breads and other complimentary apps once we placed our order. Miyazaki Wagyu($ 108) This is only 3 oz., but it is the BEST beef you will EVER have. Melts in your mouth like M&M’s. This is definitely just something to try, but don’t expect it to fill up your belly. T-Bone($ 78) NOWTHISISWHAT I’M TALKINGABOUT! Huge piece of steak with FLAVOR because it’s bone-in. Medium-rare. Tender. Juicy. Everything you want in a T-Bone. Macaroni and Cheese($ 11) I’ve had some great mac and cheese, and this ranks up there with the best of them. Definitely a great compliment to any of their steaks. Truffle Fried Potatoes($ 12) WOWWOW. This is a home run. Thinking about all the potatoes I’ve ever had, I’m not sure if there has ever been potatoes this tasty. I mean look at the name, «Truffle Fried Potatoes.» That just screams«EATMEEEE.»

Love love love that they opened a location in Pasadena! I was missing Alexander’s from the Bay Area so much and was ecstatic to hear that there was now a location in LA. Service was on point — courses paced out perfectly, everyone was all smiles, and a handwritten birthday card to the birthday boy! Loved all the dishes, my favorite being the duck breast — although the rib eye was delicious as well. The chilled foie gras was interesting and tasty if you like the sweet/savory mix, and the honey whipped wagyu fat(?) served with the bread was the best whipped«butter» I’ve ever had. Aside from the bite sized desserts and the cotton candy, we also tried the jasmine rice matcha mint sorbet. which unfortunately was not my favorite. Slightly too bitter for me. Overall, a wonderful 2.5 hour dining experience! Definitely a must try if you’re looking for great service, food, and have 3 hours to spare for dinner. Oh, and make sure to make reservations beforehand!

I don’t even know where to start with this amazing restaurant because everything was just on point from the service, ambiance, to their food. It was such a pleasant experience from the moment we stepped into the restaurant to when we left the restaurant. All guests were pretty much treated like we were their VIPs. We took our 18 month old with us(she is very well behaved, we are so lucky). She was treated like one mature diner and was brought extra servings for her all night. They even brought out a separate bowl of edamame without the chili~ and complimentary horderves from the chef not only to me and my husband but for my daughter as well! Such a thoughtful service all throughout. Last but not least the food… it was so good! Starting with their bread and butter which comes with 3 different types of bread and 3 different types of butter, one was infused with steak fat was SO good we ate all the breads and literally scraped out all the butter that came with it lol. Doesn’t sound so classy I know… but we couldn’t help it! We also ordered oysters(at a steakhouse) just because. They did something very unique to the oysters where they added seaweed to add a taste of the ocean… I usually don’t like it when they wash the oysters too much because they taste washed out, but with the little touch of seaweed I was all over them. Yes! the $ 105 wagyu beef the size of a ping pong ball was actually worth it I kid you not. It comes with 6 different kinds of salts and they added huge slices of black truffles complimentary because when we first walked in, we were going nuts over this big piece of truffle that was sitting in their kitchen. The wagyu was very tender, juicy and delicious, you only had to put a little bit of salt(from the 6 different kinds of salts) to taste. We also got a USDA rib eye which came with 3 different kinds of sauces. We were too full for desert but they gave us three(yes one for my daughter too) caramel cookie bars to go. I had them for desert the next day and it was so good! Just when we thought this perfect experience was over… when we got out to get the car from the valet… our car was already waiting outside! I don’t know how they did that but we were impressed. I loved everything about the Alexander’s Steakhouse!

This steakhouse is hidden next to a hotel and behind a California Pizza Kitchen, but if you can find the place, it’s amazing. I had dinner here one weekend, and I was blown away by the experience. The staff is attentive and the ambiance romantic. But what really impressed me was the food. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked, and the macaroni and cheese and the side of bread was well worth the calories and carbs. Overall, Alexander’s is perfect for a date or whenever you just want to impress your friends. It’s fine dining at it’s best.

I don’t know what else I can add here that haven’t already been said. If you’re looking for a flawless dining experience, then look no further. When I say an experience, I mean an experience. From the moment I made the reservations until the very end of our dinner, the service was impeccable, and to say the food was amazing is an understatement. Thank you, Alexanders for making a birthday celebration .memorable! I’ve been lucky enough to have experienced various chef’s tables and tasting menus and this ranks right up there with the best. I was a little concerned at first since this is a new establishment in Pasadena, though I’ve heard of them before. But wow! I loved our host, our server and food and wine… just simply amazing. Reservations were easy to make via Open Table, and since it was a birthday celebration, they had a hand written birthday card waiting at the table when we arrived. It was a really nice touch! Since it was a special occasion(yeah, I wish I can do this everyday), we had the Chef’s Tasting Menu with wine pairings. It was 8 courses and it all lead up to the oh-so-amazing Miyazaki Japanese A5. I can’t say I’ve ever had anything quite like it. Each dish was exceptionally unique and the whole experience was phenomenal. They also have an amazing cocktail menu, and you can order them omakase style. Just tell the server what you like and let the bartender mix up something for you. They really nailed it when I told them the kind of drinks I liked.(I hear they have a happy hour!)

To call this place a steakhouse is a misnomer, because it is so much more than that. It is the ULTIMATE dining experience. My wife and I dined at Alexander’s in October to celebrate our first year anniversary. Since we made the reservation and told the host that it was a special occasion, we were seated right away. Alexander’s is a relatively new establishment since they’ve expanded over to Southern California, so it still carries that modern and elegant feel. The wait staff really pulled out all the stops to make this night a special night for us. Since it was our anniversary celebration, they offered us two glasses of champagne on the house! For $ 175 per person, you can opt for Chef’s Tasting, which is what we did. There’s also another option to add $ 75 per person for a wine/champagne pairing, but I’m not that rich… –_– Everything on this menu hit the mark! The hamachi shots with dashi, avocado, and ponzu start off the course, followed by the dry-aged tataki, kabocha soup, apple & pear palette cleanser, Chawanmushi(Japanese egg custard dish), and braised short rib. By that point, the wife and I were hitting our limit, but then… the Japanese A5 Miyazaki comes with six different salts, and new life hits us! It’s just enough to give us room for dessert, which is a chocolate selection called«Textures of Chocolate»… Oh man, I think I died and went to heaven! As a parting gift, well… I’ll leave that as a surprise for you to figure out. ;) Chef Matt really did an amazing job to accommodate my wife and I, and for that, I would recommend Alexander’s to anybody.

My husband took me to Alexander’s for my birthday. It’s located next to the Pasadena City Hall where you can enjoy the full historical building view as you walk towards the restaurant. Valet parking is $ 8 on Los Robles. I wasn’t feeling too well that night and had lost my voice. Luckily with the $ 175 Chef’s tasting menu, not much talking was needed. All items were pretty good. Surprisingly unlike other fancy steak houses we have been to, some of their dishes taste like Asian food: sweet, tangy, use of Asian red scallions. Every dish looked like a piece of art, I couldn’t help taking pictures while my husband was patiently waiting :) By the time we got to the Wagyu kobe which was the last item on the chef’s tasting menu before the dessert, the meat was sooo rich and tender that it was almost too much for me. I know it sounded weird that it should be a compliment, but to my stomach at that time, that little piece of meat was hard to handle. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside, clean bold lines with elegant taste. Service was great too. But I noticed they only refilled my water but not my hot tea. They did provide complimentary sweets at the end, so you might want to hold off from ordering too much dessert. Great experience! Thank you!

Come if you can. Amazing meal and wow-ed every minute of our time here. Came in October to celebrate my S.O.‘s birthday. Parking was easy at the hotel and they do validate for two hours, albeit we were there for much longer. We were seated right away. The décor is very modern and clean. It’s not like an old boys club steakhouse like Mastro’s or Morton’s. The staff was super friendly and our waiter was AMAZING! I don’t know his name, but you could tell he had an amazing passion for the food and really wanted to make sure that we picked plates that fit our tastebuds. Since it was a birthday celebration, they gave us two glasses of champagne on the house! I also ordered a cocktail called… something Porch Juice? Not a class name, but it was a mixture of bourbon and pear cider. Seriously refreshing and hit the spot. Ordered a few hamachi shots, which were amazing. We weren’t sure if the default number of 6 was too many, so we just ordered 2. But at the end of the day… definitely wished we did the full 6. They serve some amazing complimentary bread with a great selection of butters. Japanese milk bread, squid ink baguette and a wonderful manchengo cheese roll(!!!). Butter was marrow bone butter and a few others I couldn’t classify, but they paired well! Then we ordered the truffled potatoes, new york dry aged and the prime rib. First of all, every bite was heaven. The dry aged steak was topped with a herbed marrow butter. It was unfortunately mostly melted by the time it got to me, but wonderful nonetheless. The prime rib — amazing. A nice big portion that was flavored beautifully and comes with fresh horseradish! The truffle potatoes were well seasoned and has amazing character to it. It wasn’t just potatoes doused in truffle(thankfully). We also received a few delicious amuse bouches throughout and all were amazing bites and palette cleansers. For dessert, we received a complimentary plate of chocolates and sweets for my boyfriend’s birthday and a small cup of raspberry sorbet which was to die for. Oh, and complimentary snickerdoodle popcorn to take home. Overall, amazing. A bit pricey, but well worth the dollars.

Came here for my birthday dinner and I really enjoyed it! We ended up doing the Chef’s Choice to get a full experience of what this place has to offer. A little history. So this restaurant actually came from the Bay area. I’ve heard great things about Alexander’s from my friend’s up north so I was eager to give it a shot. This restaurant originated from a chef whose father was a Texan Cowboy and a Japanese mother so the menu has a variety of quality American style meats as well as a hint of Japanese influences to the menu and wagyu meats. The menu. We chose to do the wine pairing with the menu which is a total of 4 ½ glasses each! They definitely do not skimp on the alcohol and price is quite reasonable. We received at least a 1 complimentary drink, appetizer, and dessert in addition to what we ordered which was generous and delightful. Hamachi Shots w/Dashi, avocado and ponzu. Very refreshingly and tasty without over powerment of the ponzu. There’s these crispy little rice crackers that add texture to the bite as well. I really enjoyed these! Dry-Aged Tataki w/burdock, charred onion, and yolk. Delicious as well and very simple dish. You can really taste the quality of the dry aged meat without a lot of distractions. Kobocha Soup w/Smoked Trout, apple olive, and maple. Full bodied soup. The soup really takes on the smokey flavor of the trout without it being fishy. Yes I know… trout and kobocha sounds strange to me but it was delicious! Apple & Pear Salad. I was unsure about this one. It’s a little dark and I didn’t really see a lot of apples and pears. The salad we got was tasty and half of it seemed to be tried because the leaves were very crispy. Textures was different. but good. Not my favorite dish but a nice refreshing dish. Chawanmushi w/Ossetra caviar, uni, and lobster bottarga. One of my favorites! Japanese style steamed egg with caviar uni and lobster. It’s very light and silky. The saltiness of the caviar compliments the egg and uni very well. Anything with egg is my favorite!!! Sturgeon instead of braised short ribs. Perfectly cooked sturgeon. The menu stated it was supposed to be braised short ribs so I was a bit disappointed. Miyazaki Japanese A5 — MYFAVORITEDISH. OMG… the wagyu A5 was amazing and super buttery. It just melts in your mouth… I love the varietal of salts given up to 6 unique salts to taste with your wagyu or just simply enjoy it alone. I was dreaming about this piece for days after… mm… textures of chocolate — Dessert was good. Toffee chocolates with crunchy bits. Very good but I only had a few bites. Wine makes me sleepy. I was full and ready for bed after this meal. The service is exceptional here. They are definitely on top of it here and food came out in a timely manner and well executed. I can see the disorganization a bit when one person places glasses and two seconds later another takes them away. But nonetheless the service was great and we weren’t short any silverware or glasses. Will come again and most likely we order a la carte to try the foie gras and entrees. YUMM.

STEAKDATE There was a lot at stake. Monsieur Know-It-All invited his crush to this sizzling-new Japanese/French/American steakhouse hoping she’d see him as a cultured gentleman and not as just another hunk of meat. Perusing the menu, Monsieur happened to see a 3 ounce Washugyu wagyu tomahawk steak for $ 315. He started to perspire over the thought that she might actually try to hit that. If she did, Monsieur was ready to order the same and sprint out after eating knowing he’s not the one impaired by high-heels. Luckily she ordered within budget. Monsieur himself got the more modest Omaha T-bone. The popcorn flavor of the dry-aging was insanely good. He paired the steak with a smoky salt-rimmed cocktail called«3rd& Los Angeles»(mezcal, rye, citrus, chocolate bitters). It should be honored as the official cocktail of Los Angeles and be given a parade. FINALANALYSIS: Service — Disorganized but well-intentioned. Crew’s obviously new, so don’t have a cow. Food — Steaktacular. Cocktails — Stood out from the herd. Date — She said she wasn’t into red meat, but that turned out to be a bunch of bull.

Had an excellent experience here for dinner. The service was top notch from beginning to end. The ambiance is very simple yet classy. The open kitchen is awesome– u can see all the drool worthy meats being cooked. Everything we tried was good. Must get the hamachi shots for appetizer. The apple pear kale salad was unique, but prob wouldn’t get it again. The steaks were delicious– we tried the bone in ribeye and dry aged tbone. I will say it was quite heavy though, especially with a foie gras on top of my steak! I regret not ordering dessert because I was so so full but I cannot wait to be back to try the cookies and cream soufflé!

Kenneth, our server, really made our dining experience exceptional. What a true professional. We came here to celebrate a birthday and they truly went out of their way to make it a special occasion. The little touches and attention to detail really made us feel welcomed. The food was top-notch! Alexander’s has become one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. I would recommend the 20 ounce prime rib. It has a perfectly seasoned crust and was cooked perfectly. I dream about that prime rib sometimes. You can’t go wrong with the bone marrow as well! We opted to have the bone marrow as an appetizer instead of an addition to the steak. My only qualm was the Hokkaido scallops. I ordered the dish on the recommendation of the server, but was not blown away by it to say the least. All in all, I will back.

Visited Alexander’s yesterday to attend a birthday celebration. Unfortunately there were some execution errors that prevented this visit from being a better experience. I really contemplated downgrading this to a one star review(as I typically do in severe food execution errors) except that the front of house service was beyond reproach. The service provided by front of house was excellent as they were able to address some of the short comings of the kitchen. Both I and my fiancées sister ordered the ribeye mid rare and after a lengthy delay(kitchen backed up possibly) a mid well steak was delivered to both of us. After notifying the front of house, they quickly refired the order. Unfortunately this time my steak came out raw.(Not rare, but blue inside). I think the other ribeye steak came out a little better, though I couldn’t confirm. Everything else however was cooked well, except the ribeye steaks. Because of the nature of our celebration I let it go and decided to simply take the raw steak home to reheat/cook. The front of house did come back to check on us and also offered a few soufflés for the issue. I did not mention the raw steak issue as I did not want to create a scene on this special occasion and at which point mostly everyone was already done with their steaks. On the other hand, I had some of my fiancée’ grass fed filet which was cooked to order perfectly. Perhaps this was a one off from the kitchen but it seems they had problems with execution(e.g. Steak temps), which is what they specialize in. Moreover for the manager or owner of this establishment, Kindly take a moment to really relay to your kitchen that they need to pay more attention to care. Scenarios like this would not be typically tolerated when dining at a higher end establishment, especially after a mistake first time around.

After my person decided against my brunch idea, he took it into his hands to plan out my birthday celebration(because one can never have too many) and he took me to Alexander’s Steakhouse. While I did make a reservation just in case, we decided to opt for the bar, as there was the happy hour menu along side the dinner menu. Arriving around 5:30 p.m., I will say the bar area was quite packed, there was an area free but no chairs so I kindly asked if they could grab us a pair. Social hour is between 5 – 6:30 p.m. so from that menu I ordered Today’s oysters, Hamachi shots, and the Wagyu Burger. From the dinner menu, I wanted the Bone Marrow Custard. I opted not to do steak as I’ve had that pretty much the whole month but will definitely come back to try. I loved the Hamachi shots! My favorite. Overall the meal was lovely. Was I extremely wowed? No, but it was a delicious meal nonetheless. This is where I’ll say that I’m very torn between the 3 stars or 4 stars. I very much noticed that the staff wasn’t as attentive or friendly as I would expect from this sort of restaurant. Let me just say while other patrons had the bartenders attention, we were given the most standard treatment. For example, I really wanted another Hamachi Shot before the HH was over, couldn’t get anyone’s attention so I missed the time. However, I think I’ll give my 4 stars based on the fact I had a lovely time with my person and I’m the nicest Unilocaler you’ll ever meet! Just don’t let me miss my HH ordering time! Tip-Valet is $ 8. Street and structure around but I hate the hassle of finding a spot in Pasadena.

What an amazing experience at Alexander’s Steakhouse! I’m from Cupertino so I have been aware of this restaurant chain for a long time. I never actually dined at their main dining room for dinner, but I did have lunch at their café which was connected to the main dining room. I made reservations a few weeks in advance for a friday night to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We arrived a few minutes late, but that wasn’t an issue at all. We were seated at a very spacious and comfortable booth. One thing that bothered me was the wall we were next to looked really cheap. In our photo, it kind of looked like we were at a cheap dining restaurant, not at a fine dining restaurant. Everything on the menu looked so amazing. We had such a hard time deciding what to order. We ended up probably ordering way too much because we were so stuffed by the end. We were first brought out some bread and butter. Now, this isn’t just your average bread and butter. There were 3 different kinds of bread and butter? One was squid ink, one had cheese in it and the last one was a japanese milk bun. My favorite was probably the one that had cheese inside. I don’t really remember what the different kinds of butter were called, but they were all pretty good. For the Table: Hamachi Shots 3.0 — This was quite refreshing and the flavors were quite strong. I would have to say it was a tad bit too salty for my taste. If the saltiness was toned down a little, it would have been perfect. Dry-aged Tataki — Perfectly seared raw beef. I don’t usually like beef, but this melted in my mouth. Course One: Grilled Octopus — This was cooked perfectly. The texture wasn’t chewy at all like some other octopus’s I’ve had. Charcuterie Trio — Came with pork terrine, porchetta, and foie gras and different jams. This was the only dish I was really disappointed with. There was just too many different flavors that mixed together and it was just all over the place. Too much going on. This dish wasn’t worth it for us. For our entrees we ordered: Passmore Ranch Trout — Wow. My trout was amazing. So light and the skin was nice and crispy. I’m sad that there was only a little bit of the corn marrow purée because that was frekin delicious. Wonderful dish that was beautifully presented. Farm Filet Mignon — My boyfriend ordered this with a bone marrow addition. I didn’t actually try his dish, but he said he enjoyed it. Miyazaki Wagyu — This was my first time having wagyu that wasn’t at a shabu place haha. Super fatty! The portion is tiny, but I’m glad it was because the wagyu was very, very rich. My boyfriend and I shared this and I couldn’t finish it at the end because it was getting too rich for me. The different salts that accompanied the wagyu was quite interesting as well. It was a good experience trying this, but I wouldn’t order it again for the price and the richness. I prefer fatty tuna haha. Side: Creamed Taro: –This tasted kind of just like taro leaves mixed together almost like a creamed spinach/mashed potato kind of dish. It was kind of salty and just whatever to me. We weren’t going to order dessert because we were on a time crunch, but we just decided to yolo it since we pretty much ordered everything else we wanted. While we were waiting for our dessert, our server brought out nicely gifted popcorn and some assorted chocolates. Yum! Dessert: Cookies and cream Soufflé — Oh my god. i don’t regret waiting the extra 15 minutes for this dessert. It was like no other soufflé I’ve ever tried. Okay I’ve only tried like one or two before, but this one make those other souffles look and taste like dirt. So light and fluffy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I didn’t care much for the ice cream sandwiches because the soufflé was definitely the star. This was probably one of my favorite dishes of the night. Our server also brought out a small cheesecake with a candle for my boyfriend for his birthday! How cute haha. Service was great. Food was pretty amazing. Dessert exceeded my expectations.(Only dessert matters right?) We had an unforgettable birthday experience at Alexander’s. Even though I’m going to be broke for months now. it was worth it.(:

Wow! Beyond impressed with the level of service and the quality of dishes I tried. The pre-dinner and pre-dessert complimentary samplers were unexpected and delicious. I can’t remember what the pre-dinner sampler was exactly(a jelly?) but the pre-dessert buttermilk ice cream mini scoop was so good. +Service and knowledge of the waiter was outstanding +Tried the prime rib, which was a perfect red because they use a special technology to make sure it is thoroughly cooked and colored to perfection. SOFANCY! +Delicious truffle potatoes and udon macaroni and cheese +Free 90 minute validated parking in the Westin lot underneath the restaurant +Great ambiance and environment +Amazing bread and butter selection– squid ink baguette, cheese bread(?), milk bun and wagyu butter, beef fat, and salted butter(they had more elegant names, I apologize) +OMG free chocolate and popcorn at the end of the meal, swoon… +Free wifi(LOVE this. Yeah, I’m a Millennial, sue me. Also because my cell service wasn’t so great in there) No cons to speak of, as you definitely know what you’re getting yourself into in terms of price. But you definitely get what you pay for, and in this case, it was a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend Alexander’s!

Food quality, 5 stars; services, 5 stars. Cocktails, I’d give 6 if I could :) For the main menu at the main dining room, many had already shared their wonderful dining experiences, very courteous staff and management. Not to mention the widest selection of Wagyu steaks in LA. So I’ll chime in on their bar and crafty cocktail program. The bar inside the steak house deserves a name of its own. It’s not like any other great bars at a great steakhouse. Eric who started the cocktail program at Republiqué is now heading the program here at the bar. If you have had cocktails at Republique, you would know why I’m so excited and I really don’t need to say more. His signature cocktail«the celery» is here, refreshing cocktail with tequila. My favorites are«4 ways to leave your lover»(a mezcal based cocktail that is not for the average Joe) and«The Belle»(a rye cocktail with the freshest bell pepper of the day). He also makes one of the best negroni in town. Other than his signature drinks, he makes a perfect Vesper and many other classics. For the whiskey & wine drinker, the restaurant has a great list of both. Be careful what you wish for, they have the rarest Japanese whisky that’s no longer in production. Now for the bar menu, they have the wagyu burger with 9 oz patty cooked & perfectly medium rare! Keep this up, next year they may be able to de-throne Petit Trois for the best burger in LA. The potatoes on the side are also not to be missed! During the«social hours» 5 – 6:30, many of the appetizers are largely discounted. There is patio sitting area just outside the bar. If you feel like splurging a bit, you could also enjoy the full restaurant menu in the bar area. I’ll most definitely return and secretly wish that you would not finish reading my review and thus the bar would not be overcrowded :)

After patiently waiting for Alexander’s to open up, I was stoked to see the lights on while driving by on Los Robles last week. After discussing it with the wifey, we decided to dine here on a Friday night. Making reservations was quick and easy with the Open Table app. Arrived a bit early to find a nearly empty restaurant which wasn’t surprising seeing how it was still early. This quickly changed after about 15 minutes of us being seated. We aren’t knew to the restaurant, having dined several times at their Cupertino location but the first thing we noticed was a different menu being offered down here in SoCal. There are a few items that were on the Cupertino menu but a lot of the items were unique to the Pasadena location. We were served an amuse bouche of some sort of hamachi on top of a wonton crisp which was tasty. We started the meal off with two appetizers, the chilled foie gras which was divine. Being a seared foie type of guy, this appetizer was a nice change of pace and didn’t disappoint. Seeing how the wife isn’t much of a meat eater, she wanted to try out the tomato which was light and refreshing. Next came out their bread basket which is tons better than what I remember being served at their Cupertino location. Highlights were the Japanese soft milk bread along with their manchego cheese rolls. What really sets this location apart from the ones up north are the variety of butters(fats) to go with their bread basket. The bone marrow butter along with the rendered beef fat(?) were simply mind blowing. Then came out our entrees where I ordered the ribeye chop(added on a piece of seared foie) along with the eryngi mushrooms and their truffle fried potatoes. Though the ribeye was flavorful, I would’ve preferred the meat served with a bone attached but I know it’s more luck of a draw type of thing. The beef was cooked perfectly but I remember the meat up north to have a stronger smoke flavor. The seared foie gras was awesome as it was perfectly seared and seasoned. The mushrooms were tasty and I would definitely recommend ordering those but the truffle fried potatoes were just so so in my opinion. Somehow we still had room for dessert and ordered their soufflé and their strawberry almond cake. Both super delicious and not overly sweet. Definitely make sure to save room for either desserts as you won’t be disappointed! Will definitely be back especially seeing how Alexander’s is literally 4 blocks away! Their private dining also looks pretty intriguing.

Every once in a Blue Moon, my husband can still catch me off guard(yes, it was a blue moon that night, so I had to incorporate it into my review). Planning a date for Friday night, husband told me to get ready by 7pm for steak. When we were heading to Pasadena, I thought same old, same old(we have been to all the steakhouses in Pasadena). Lo & Behold he found a place so new(2 weeks) that they were still doing their soft opening and have done no advertising. Parking: valet is located on Los Robles for $ 8. Location: Restaurant is located across courtyard from valet, past all the families at CPK. Upon entry, we were greeted quickly and hostesses offered us the option to be seated or sit at the bar for a cocktail first. Nice, Cocktail it is! The cocktail menu suggested to omakase(let the bartender make a creation), so I put them to the challenge. I said I wanted vodka, & something refreshing, cucumber, mint, etc. Sure enough, they brought back a delectable pre-dinner cocktail. Husband ordered the Texan mule which was good & spicy/gingery. We then headed to our table and Dining room was standard for a steakhouse. Given a good table in the corner(I love people watching). Service? FANTASTIC. Staff was knowledgeable, took the time to explain every aspect from the history of Alexander’s(husband had just been to the Cupertino location) to their expansion, to showing us that some items are staples on the menu and some items are chef’s own creations. Wine? Copain Pinot Noir. Perfect for our dinner & sommelier was great. Food? Bread: fresh & great variety(squid ink bread) and I loved the butter, fat, etc spreads. Hamachi Shots(6 pack): Excellent. I LOVED this. Iceberg: I didn’t order but thought it was average. Aurora Angus Filet Mignon(blue cheese added) Medium Rare: Excellent. Cab Strip Steak: Very Good Mashed Potatoes: EXCELLENT. How can you take a standard like Mashed Potatoes and make it so much better? We were too full for dessert, but they brought us out delightful chocolates and caramel popcorn to go(YES, they were eaten that evening). As this place gets busier, it’ll be interesting to see if the service can maintain this standard. Everyone from Hostesses(sweet & super friendly) to Bartenders, to Servers, Sommelier, Bussers were above & beyond. Fantastic Date Night.
