Been wanting to come here for a while because of all the great reviews, which, after going there I really don’t understand. They can’t even make French fries. How do you screw that up? The asada was horrible. To sum it up just google basa fish. I couldn’t even eat my food when I found out that’s what they serve.

This place has been around forever. Yes, even before Unilocal was around. Gerlach’s Grille is located next to a liquor store. There is no indoor seating, however there is a somewhat of a countertop on the back of the place for you to stand & get your grub on. A few chairs in front of the order window for you to wait for the food to be made & prepared. Sounds tacky right? Maybe, but they make it up for the food. My last recent visit, I ordered the falafel plate. 5 falafels on top of white rice, side of hummus, white cucumber sauce, & this house special sauce that comes with the plate. A side of salad & a pita bread comes with the plate as well. This place is great due to different varieties of food for you to choose from. Situated in a busy corner in South Pasadena. It may be busy during lunch hour, but it’s worth the wait!

Hour mixup. Seems they’ve changed a few times. As of 9/2015, their open hours are: 11−8pm Monday-Saturday. Closed sundays. I’ve also been there a few times after that and they were closed.

Love the fish tacos here, and the location is convenient to driving, bicycling, walking, whatever! To-go only, as there is no dining area. There are two tables out front by the liquor/wine shop, but those are not technically for Gerlach’s use. We’ve side-stepped this before by going in and buying some cold beer to wash down our tacos. The family is not Mexican, I believe they are Middle Eastern. The style and flavor of the food is very good, especially their grilled fish dishes. Lots of fresh quality ingredients, great salsas and the green side salad is nice on top of the tacos or by itself(the vinaigrette is so yummy). Very friendly and welcoming staff at the window, and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend if you are in the area and want a fast, healthy, cheap meal!

I’ve yet to be disappointed. I’ve known of and have been supporting Gerlach’s for years. Truth be told me mother, when she was a mail carrier, turned us on to the spot. So they come highly recommended.

I’m impressed :) this is pretty much a hidden whole in the wall but my experience was great. The cashier was extremely friendly, the food took maybe 5 – 7 minutes to be ready, and it was delicious! I ordered the salmon plate dinner, which was easily enough food for 2 people for just about $ 12. The salmon was super fresh and tasted great :) I will definitely be back!

Great place for lunch i work right up the street. I usually get their chicken burrito and this chicken actually has flavor. Im not a fan of the rice but you can ask for salad to substitute that and let me tell you the dressing they make(their own) when i first tried it i was like w.e. but then after the 3rd time i always ask for it, so sometimes i just get a chicken salad. Just about everything i get here is great. The falafel(how ever you spell it) is great ive had it at other«famous» places where they just salt the shit out of it. Any who it looks like a hole in the wall but there is flavor here for sure.

I’ve been going to Gerlach’s Grille occasionally for years. It’s a hole-in-the-wall place(literally). The staff are not what you would call«social» people — they are straight to the point and don’t talk much — but I have always been treated politely and professionally by everyone. I’ve tried several of the items on the menu over time — it’s not the greatest food on the planet but it is good food and not too expensive. My favorite is the calamari and chips which comes with either soup or salad, flat bread and hummus. There are a couple of tables in the parking lot but my idea of a good dinner is not sitting next to cars with the engines left running while people run into the liquor store for lottery tickets, cigarettes and booze so I opt to take it home to eat.

Love it… salmon burrito is a must. Nothing more to add. Get your food and enjoy! Quick, easy, and delicious!

I say go for the Salmon and skip everything else. They have salmon plates, salmon salads, salmon tacos, salmon sandwiches, etc. so you have plenty to choose from. Gerlach’s portions are very generous and the prices are very affordable but its a casual spot with an order window and no place to sit and eat your food so their costs are down.

I come here frequently on my lunch break. I usually get the salmon, mahi mahi, or basa wrap or burger. The fish is always fresh. I also like their feta, pickle, and olive plate. It goes well with a salad, or by itself.

As someone who lived in the middle east, I have to say that finding this gem in Pasadena was a dream come true! The hummus is definitely made fresh there, and you get a ton of food for the money. I would recommend the beef kabobs and chicken kabobs. If you’re looking for a quick, cheap place to get delicious and healthy food, head over there!

We’ve had take-out lunch here several times and have enjoyed each and every takeout. This is a small, take-out only place located next to a liquor store, but does have a small outdoor counter for those who cant wait to munch. The wife always orders the chicken kabob lunch… myself; I like to mix it up between falafel wraps, fish tacos, mahi mahi lunch — it’s all very good and reasonably priced. Check out this place as you really cannot go wrong here. Parking is a little tight and the intersection to get there is busy at times, so my suggestion is to call your order in ahead of time.

This is one of those lucky dives that you find because you’re hungry, you’ve seen it 100 times but never have stopped :-) it’s just a little window with an extensive Mediterranean menu but they also serve tacos burritos sandwiches and other appetizers. I ordered the shrimp burrito and it’s literally the best shrimp burrito I’ve ever had. It is so stuffed with shrimp that they were bursting out the sides :-) every time I’ve gotten a shrimp burrito from anywhere else it’s always very skimpy but this one was loaded to the max. I also ordered the Turkey burger and was very very surprised on how delicious it was. The french fries are the fat steak fries and they’re also perfect! This is my second time and today I’m trying the mahi-mahi burger and I’ll update on the quality later but for now this is A great little find and I will definitely be back. The people that work here are also super friendly and nice and serve you with a smile which I have grown to love in this LA food industry. Some places you go and you either love the people that work there or you hate em, these people I definitely love them :-)

This is a hidden jewel! I have grown up eating here! I drove by yesterday and saw a line. My mom and I decided to visit this place again after YEARS!!! And I’m sooooo happy we did! I got the salmon salad and she got salmon tacos plate! I don’t know what they put in their dressing for the salad but it’s so good! Their food is so fresh! We have been eating here for 15 years and the food has not changed, everything is still delicious! I would reccomend getting something to drink at a 7 Eleven or something because the liquor store next door is a little expensive!

Me: «Can you guys bring me home something to eat?» #1 Son’s girlfriend: «We’re at a place called Gerlach’s. It’s both tacos & Mediterranean, specializing in fish. They’ve got salmon tacos! We’ll bring you home a plate.» Me: «Gerlach’s?» My eyes widened at these beautiful tacos! So full of a plate for only $ 6-something? Salmon Tacos(3) plate. Excellent! With a crispy lightly dressed romaine salad and white rice. Had two for dinner with some salad and saved the rest for the hubby’s after-work snack. She had the Grilled Salmon plate What a generous portion. It came with rice and a cole slaw she said was so-so. I’ll be ordering this when we get ourselves over there; I’ll eat slaw any time. #1 Son ordered a Beef kabobs plate. This guy. He’s all about the kabobs & hummus! (I stole the cucumber dip. Good stuff!) According to them, Gerlach’s is hidden away on the side of a liquor store. It seems that perhaps the stand was previously a store room. There’s only a few seats on the outside so this is better for take-out. Kind of surprising to hear because these plates were out of the ordinary for a taco stand. They named all the different kinds of fish on the menu and it’s drool-worthy. Rather fancy, eh? But not with the fancy pricetags you would expect. Can’t go wrong here! +++++++++++++ Edited to add– The hubby & I returned here several times and I’ve discovered the goodness of their Basa Tacos! Took some to my cousin’s and he’s loving them too.

I had lunch here yesterday and just came back from a second visit today. This place is a GOLDMINE! [To be clear, its a dive bar hiding behind a liquor store in the middle of nowhere between South Pas and«north» Pas ;) ] They serve a variety of fresh fish in filet, burrito, taco, and salad forms for a fantastic value of 7 to 8 bucks a meal! The portions are quite generous, the taste is D-licious and the food is not heavily condimented or greasy. They also have kabobs, hummus, falafel, and the sorts. So far I have tried the salmon taco plate: comes with 3 amigos(not the usual 2 offered at most places), lots of salmon meat, side of jasmine rice(not sure why, but tastes great and can be saved for later to eat with some eggs), a lightly dressed salad, fresh juicy limes and a pretty good garlic red pepper hot sauce. Salmon burrito: YES. Pinto beans, rice, pico de gallo, and lots of salmon is packed into this bag of food in which the bag is also food(definition of a burrito). This also comes with a side of rice and a side salad and it tastes just too damn good and fills up a large hole in your hungry stomach. Falafel: Crispy on the outside, soft and smooth on the inside. Nothing else to say but great tasting falafel served with a garlic and herbs aioli. Definitely something to try if you’re craving it. I’m pretty thrilled with this place right now. I have not seen many places selling fresh tasty fish meals for such good value. I can tell this is the start of a very good relationship. FYI there is just one table to sit at – I think most people take their food to go, but sitting at that one table outdoors facing the mountains is a great experience for good eats on a sunny SoCal afternoon.

If you look up «hole-in-the-wall» you just might find a picture of GG. Located in a tiny parking lot adjacent to a liquor store, this little food shack can easily be missed if not specifically looking for it. I was initially intrigued after reading online about their healthier options and cheap prices so I decided to check it out. When you first pull up you can tell this place is not very sit-down friendly for dining. It’s in a parking lot shared with a liquor store and there were about 8 total parking spots and maybe one or two picnic tables outside the liquor store so it’s definitely more of a take-out spot. The menu is pretty simple and what I particularly liked was the cheap seafood options. I got three salmon tacos, rice and a side salad all for under $ 7. That definitely cannot be beat in this area! Their food is quality and you can tell they make everything healthy and fresh per order. It does take a little bit longer for orders to come out but I don’t mind if it’s freshly made. That being said, the food itself was not very flavorful, at least by our typical American standards. Not too oily, fatty, salty or sugary this somewhat«bland» flavor might be geared more towards a simple health-conscious eater. So to recap I give it 3-stars for flavor but 5-stars for being cheap, healthy, quality food. I’ll give it 4-stars overall though especially since I’ve been on that healthy tip lately. P. S. Since their orders take a while to come out, it’s best to call in your order ahead of time. Cheers!
