Like the other reviewers, my husband and I were the only people in the winery — very nice couple that runs the place. J Paul Winery is not on the Paso Robles map — I think they choose to not participate in the Paso Chamber of Commerce. Regardless, their Petit Syrahs and Syrahs are second to none — quite good at a good price. They do a good club business and, in my opinion, need to participate more in the local chamber to get on the tourist circuit. Apothecary is a terrific wine and I joined their wine club as I loved the Syrah assortment so much. Great people, great wine — I hope they make it in this competitive field.

An unassuming little winery with the most incredible reds. Anytime were in Paso, we MUST stop in at J. Paul Rosilez and pick up some vino. I’d never heard of reds being made in a steel barrell before this place but man o man does it seem to have a wonderful effect on all their wines! Every sip tells a story, and we love popping these bottles with family and friends.

this was a perfect way to start our introduction to paso robles east. this was our first stop on the wine line, and it was an absolute pleasure to taste here. it makes all the difference when the people who are pouring are passionate about the wine. they shared insights about each bottle, swirling techniques, even the story of their 3 cats. we took home a bottle of apothecary and a new found appreciation for j. paul and his parents.

Great wine made by great people. I went with a member so I don’t know of there is a fee or how much, bit it would have been worth paying it. They only serve wines that have had several years to age. The wines are on the pricier side, but in my opinion, worth it.

First, I’d like to just say that this winery is run by the parents of the wine maker, J. Paul Rosilez. My buddy and I stopped by and like most wine tasters, we were the only ones in the tasting room for a long while so my buddy and I got the chance to meet Mrs and Mr Rosilez(the parents of the wine maker). I must say they are extremely nice. They are very hospitable and friendly. They talked to us about the wines and about the commitment of their son in making wine while he works as a pharmacist during the day. I enjoyed hearing the story about how hard he works at balancing the wine making and his primary job — pharmacist. There was a lot of wine to taste here in the tasting room. First, they had some wines on sale if you were interested in buying by the case. The deals were very good. But, I must say some of the wines I tasted away from the main tasting room had somewhat of an after taste. In all fairness, my taste buds must have been overwhelmed. One important thing I did notice in most of their wines tasted HOT(high alcohol content). Now, I know that on most wines you’ll find at 14.5% alcohol content and from what I read if it’s higher, then it must be considered a dessert wine. Don’t know if Rosilez wines exceeded this by accident or intentional. You do taste the high alcohol and when you sip, you find yourself feeling the buz quicker than you want for a simple wine. So in essence you feel as you’re tasting plain ALCOHOL. In summary the wines to me didn’t have a lot of depth — just alcohol. So, maybe the boxed good-deals were wines that didn’t make it to what the wine maker had hoped. I will say that the parents really will win you over. They really put their heart into making you feel at home at their tasting room. To me this tells me that once their wines catch up to the customer service you receive when you visit Rosilez Winery, this winery will be better than any winery in Paso Robles — in my humble opinion.

This is a review for J. Paul Rosilez’s new tasting room in Paso Robles. We went here on a recommendation from our limo driver about their Pinot. Upon arriving late in the day, we were the only ones in the tasting room and had a chance to speak with the owners. They are really nice people and they definitely love making wine and meeting the people who drink it. We ended up getting 3 bottles, the Apothecary was my favorite of their wines. It was not the best wine that we tasted during our trip, but Joe and his wife were definitely the friendliest people we ran into!
