Just went in there after not shopping there for over a year. It seemed much better. Clean, tidy, good values and the selection is what we wanted. After leaving Walmart by them it was a breath of fresh air!

Clean enough store, good selection. Seems like not very employees are staffed at this store, which can make it slow to check out.

Not sure how they stay in business but they do. Plenty of parking, clean store, courteous employees.
Overall the interior is stuck in the 1970’s. The place needs new signage, brighter lighting and a top to bottom makeover.
Good sale prices. OK store to shop for basics for your kids but don’t expect designer brands.

I was greeted very nicely by the first staff member up front and the store was clean and easy to shop. Biggest problem was that there was no one to assist me in shoes, so I left to look at Big 5 and found a pair there due to the great service levels. Had there been a sales clerk, I probably would have tried and bought the shoes I was looking at.

Not only did I purchase a fairly expensive jewelry item from them but have continued to give them my service ! I purchased a necklace from them with a box chain, which as many of you know, is supposed to be a stronger chain. Not only has my box chain broken three times in three different places, but I had to call them and ask if my necklace was ready to be picked up from replacement. When I did call I was greeted by an EXTREMELY rude woman who not only interrupted me on multiple occasions but hung up on me after getting an even bigger attitude. I then continued to call the store back and request to speak to the manager and the same women answered the phone, recognized my voice, and sarcastically phoned me over to the manager. Who didn’t have much to say to me at all other than «I’ll talk to her’ I have past work experience in retail and I am absolutely positive that if their district manager were to find out how awful these so called «employees» handle their customers some replacements would be made. I am literally appalled with all of the things I have read about this store and will never shop here again. Those employees should not be allowed to belittle customers and treat them with disrespect like they obviously have been.

Heard they were on the rebound, so we gave them a try. All the stuff is extra cheaply made and wal mart has a better quality if you can believe i. I got a new pair of flip flops from st johns bay for 17 bucks. Wore then 1 month then they got hot one day and all the glue was coming apart. This franchise is on its way out. AVOID, employees start to look for new work asap…

This particular Penny’s is very lackluster when it comes to selection and items in stock. Factor in that the overwhelming majority of the store is set aside for women’s fashion, failure to find men’s clothing is almost a surety as soon as one enters the front door.
Without reservation, the Paso Robles location must be the smallest JC Penny’s that I’ve ever been in. The men’s department is almost non-​existent. You might fair slightly better if you’re searching for women’s clothing, but even that is no sure thing. Although I’ve never used it, they also have a hair salon in the very back of the store near customer service.
In all, this is quite an unremarkable department store.

I’m not from a small town, so maybe that’s why I was expecting a real department store…
This place is tiny, no selection, awful fitting rooms (with those bad lights and long waits). Service was poor. I couldn’t find anyone to help me find another size for something I was trying on. Honestly, I’d rather go to the nearby Khols for their bigger selection, lower prices, and similar service.

I suppose I am a particularly practical person when it comes to shopping. As such I appreciate JCPenney’s to no end because it is just that, a practical department store.
Every time I have gone into purchase something from Pennies I find it immediately, I check out quickly, and the price is very inexpensive. The staff is always helpful and I’ve even have had them order items for me from the catalog, and it arrives at my office — when it’s not available in the store. I don’t get that kind of service elsewhere. Granted it is somewhat limited in its scope of goods, however on the central coast practically everyone has a very limited scope of their goods. Compare the Old Navy store in San Luis Obispo to the Old Navy store in San Francisco and you get what I am talking about.
To all the adult males that must wear a dress shirt to work, I highly highly highly recommend the Stafford super shirt. You can commonly purchase one on sale for approximately $ 20 a shirt, and they hold up well through several years of wash and wear. Washed and dried properly you need never iron them. I have paid more that three times the aforementioned price for a crappier shirt.

I was Christmas shopping and had to stand in line for a while. So observed the behind the counter customer service staff. It was quite interesting.
One young girl came flying in and in front of all of the customers directed an older gentleman where he needed to go after he was finished with his current customer who he was in right in the middle of checking out. He responded very pleasantly and said «Sure.» But I cringed at the way she obviously spoke down to him and thought of my own father being talked to by a young «snip» like that!
So I finally get up to the counter and the same gentleman checks me out because I was in his line already. The woman at the casier next to me. Moved my purse and told me «YOU need to scoot over a bit.»
I have to say… I left there with a really bad taste in my mouth. Except for the gentleman who checked me out, I was about as annoyed as the help seemed to be when I walked out the door!

Kinda friendly staff. We did some shopping while we were waiting on our tires at Walmart. Nice store many associates hanging about to help you.
