This winery is a family owned boutique that makes wonderful wines in the traditional way. Hand made by the family. The owner takes care of the vineyard and plays music on his stage. Jenni works the tasting bar and is so informative, enthusiastic and genuine she makes you feel comfortable from the start. Ask her about the history of the winery and you’re in for a great story. They also used reclaimed barn wood and metal to decorate which is warm and inviting. Susan Poalillo is a gracious and fun hostess. At any rate this winery is the place to go for wine for any palate and lots of fun !!!

Visited Poalillo a few years ago while touring the wine area. Charlie and his great zin was the highlight of our tour. Subsequently purchased cases of his Extreme Reserve for a couple of years. Recently visited San Diego and enjoyed some good zins, but nothing that touched Poalillo. Hoping to get back there again before long.

This was our favorite vineyard from our weekend of wine tasting and we liked it so much we joined their wine club. Jenn was generous in her pours and also very informative. We like that this is a small, family run operation and also that they use a dry-farm method of growing grapes – once vines are established they don’t water or water very minimally. This is not only more sustainable it also results in grapes that are very flavorful because the sugars are concentrated. Most vineyards have one or maybe two outstanding wines but we found every wine there that we tasted to be outstanding – part of the reason we joined their wine club. Another bonus is that you get 20% off on two vacation rentals that are located on their lovely, rural property.

I will start by saying I drink a lot of wine, I know what I like by am by no means an expert or for that matter, not very knowledgeable about nuances, process, or verbage when it comes to making wine. But I KNOWWHAT I LIKE. This was 1 of two of my favorite wineries on our trip. One of the two places I bought the wine and will be joining their club. They have a small production so they don’t have thousands of barrels for sale to stores. the zinfandel is one of the best I have ever had.(i am 60) have had a lot of Zin. The vibe at this winery is very Italian. You feel like you have entered the property of family and they treat you that way. They were setting up for a wedding while we were there, what a great venue! They have a couple of rentals to stay in. I want to go back and stay here. the grounds are lovely. The story of the winery is inspiring! I wish I could have known the grandparents.

I’m so glad that I found this amazing winery, after going to some larger and more well known wineries in Paso Robles. Walking to the tasting room we heard some great music being played on their stage by the winemaker! As we walked into the tasting room, we were instantly greeted and the good vibes and conversation flowed. I always loved a Big Red wine but until I tried their Zin, I had no idea what I had been missing. Their Envy and Zinfandel are what I’ve searched for and my wife found the Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Canelli to be hers. A small unpretentious winery with live music, great food and small batch, dry farmed wine that stunned my palette! Oh well be back and they will be our first stop in our Paso wine journey. We also found out they have vacation rentals on the property. I can’t imagine a more serene wine country setting to stay at.

We love Poalillo for its fine wines that ar handcrafted, big and intense, yet balanced. You can feel the love of their wine in every bottle. But it’s not just the wines that we enjoy. It’s also the fun atmosphere and great music that the owners create that makes you want to hang out and recharge. Dave is a fabulous guitarist and entertained us and other wine tasters on the patio overlooking the vineyard and hills forested by lush oaks. Susan, his wife, has great energy and soulfulness and has many stories to share. We will stop in for lunch next time we visit Poalillo… pizza and salads are available with their wine, yum!

I love the wine! Jenny is awesome! Angel was the first wine I ever liked. We are part of their wine club! Love it! I love the history behind the winery! Like I said Jenny is awesome, she makes you feel like family. The wine is good and friendly service, what else can you ask for!!! Love Poalillo vineyards

I had the pleasure of going to Paso Robles during last years Harvest Festival and stayed the weekend at Paolillo. Susan and Dave were more than welcoming from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had all been friends for years. Now onto the good stuff! I knew we were in trouble when we started the tasting. There wasn’t a single wine that I didn’t like(…including the Chardonnay that I usually despise… but ended up purchasing a bottle!). At the end of the weekend, we ended up getting multiple bottles and will be signing up for the wine club. I dream about their wines and can’t wait until the next time we can go visit. Take the time to try Poalillo, you won’t be disappointed!

I’m sorry to say that Charlie Poalillo has retired from the business, partly because of health issues of his beloved wife(so doubly disappointing). The winery is run by his daughter and the tasting room is shared with another winery and is a very modest attempt at the large/elegant vineyard tasting rooms in the area. This makes me prize the experience I had under the oak forest canopy in 2009 so much more. It was the end of an era. The good news is that the staff reports that Charlie Poalillo comes by almost every day to flirt with the all-female staff. The bad news is that the wines have changed to a more generic profile, with the exceptional Summit Creek«Westside» Zinfandel(the biggest, plummiest and most interesting Zinfandel I’ve ever had) replaced with a generic«Zinfandel» that is fine, but not nearly as exceptional.

I have not visited this winery just yet but I intend to. I do business with them now and love Susan’s energy and outlook. I cannot wait to try this winery out especially after reading all of the reviews.

We had such a fantastic time at this winery. They are one of the few that serve food(with purchase of a tasting). The owners were wonderful people who had such fun stories about the vineyard. Each wine has a story to go with the label and we spent hours talking about it all. They also allow pets which is lovely. We purchased two bottles and also signed up for their wine club. We cannot wait to go back to pick up our shipment in the fall.

Stopped in on a random drive one afternoon. Dave the winemaker, owner and vineyard manager was pouring for me that day. I always love to hear the story of the winery and was happy to receive a wonderful family history of winemakers. The wine is hand crafted. Dave says it takes him a day to crush a ton of gapes with his method he uses. The wines were nice and I chose a fun Tuscan trio that had beautiful hints of pine and earth. It made me feel connected to nature. The summer seasons they have great bands and food in the evenings. It sounds like a great time. Plus a little bungalow that can be rented.

This was our last stop on the wine tour my sister was and I sharing a reunion together. She lives in Kauai. Susan the owner was there with a very good friend and she was very personable hospitable and funny… sharing stories about her parents and the history of the vineyard. We really enjoyed some of the winesand bought several bottles! This is a must stop! You will have a fun and relaxing time.

Went by recently and was blown away with how unusual and delicious Susan’s wines are! Always a fun light atmosphere and many times there is great music being played outside on the patio. We have stayed in the cute little guest house and it was excellent as well. A must stop in Paso!

Stopped in for lunch and wine tasting! One of the few places that has food available as well as great wine. Our server was very nice and had lots of fun stories about the winery and its history. One of the owners, Charlie, was playing his guitar and singing some great songs while we ate lunch and drank wine. Very cool place. Has a outdoor stage for music and hanging out.

I’m going to go with a 3.5 stars, but I’ll round up. Let’s start off with the wine. Wine is subjective to mood, color, taste buds, atmosphere truly isn’t a drink where it will taste consistent to everybody. With that being said, my husband enjoyed the wines, however, they were not my favorite. They taste very earthy, and the white is very sweet. Not my cup of tea, but it absolutely could be yours. My husband and I actually stayed on the lovely house at the Poalillo Vineyards. It was a cute house with basic needs. Very, very quiet. If you’re looking to be secluded you have absolutely found your place. It’s $ 150 a night. The main gem is the entertainment. It was so nice to simply walk out of our room on a Saturday night and enjoy the band on the patio of the winery, look out at the vineyard, sip on a glass of wine(or tea) and enjoy an awesome gourmet burger. The weekend events at this vineyard were an absolute treat.

The 2-star rating mostly applies to the wine. We tasted about 6 wines: 2 roses, a blend(maybe?), 2 zins, and another zin that had been apparently sitting in oak barrels about 5 years longer than planned(not even drinkable). None were impressive but we bought a zin because we had a voucher. However, staff were friendly, live music was being played, and plenty of people seemed to be having a good time.

Wonderful zin! The owner is lovely and the tasting room is very cute. I had a great time chatting with her and hearing about the story of her family. The wines are very good and very boutique-y. It is really worth a stop on your trip though Paso West! They share the tasting room with another winery so you can do a two taste in one stop deal! WOOT.

Poalillo has deep roots in Paso Robles, which I always find to be cool since so many wineries here don’t anymore. Susan’s parents were the original owners, and she and her husband, Dave, are carrying on the winery now. The ambiance here is a uncommon blend of peaceful serenity and rambunctious fun, which I know sounds unlikely. The serenity is outside and the fun is inside. Dave plays a mean banjo and guitar, so you’ll find him strumming away outside among the vines most of the time. It’s nice to plop down in a chair on the porch and chill with a glass of wine. He’ll get really excited if you give him a tip. The tasting room staff is helpful, friendly and entertaining, especially if Susan is there. Every time I go here people are laughing and having a good time. They have a good variety of wines, too. Also, Stanger has some great wines in the same tasting room — convenient! Friendly, unpretentious people that just want you to have a good time. Hard to not like!
