I was on the disappointed side here. We, a large group(7 total) travelling together arrived and the greeting was less than welcoming. In fact they chastised us for not having an appointment. I could understand and almost forgive the attitude, but there was only 2 other people when we arrived, so we were a blessing in filling up the tasting room. The wines were good. Certainly worth the $ 10/per person tasting fee. A stand out was the GZM blend of grenache, zinfandel and mourvedre. Tasting fee is waived if you purchase wine which a few in my party did.

The tasting room is quite nice but the real reason to go is obviously for the wine. I love(talking love here) the GSM. Always stop in when I’m in Paso.

interesting wines but most were not really my thing. The grounds are gorgeous and make it worth the trip. How do you review wine anyway, it’s so personal. The staff was lovely and helpful, I would go back.

Cute tasting room, and attractive grounds. $ 10 tasting fee for 6 tastes(waived with the purchase of 2 bottles). Although a cute place, service(3 stars) can make such a difference in my enjoyment; it adds to the experience speaking with, and being served by, someone passionate about the wines, the winery, and/or the industry. Our pourer(a non-wine-industry student, working there for fun) was pleasant-enough, but clearly didn’t display the knowledge, enthusiasm, or passion we’ve found at some other Paso Robles wineries. We still had a good time; we enjoyed the wines, leaving with their 2014 Viognier($ 28) and 2012 Mourvedre($ 45).

Great wines in one of my favorite outside settings in Paso. Very rustic, and beautiful. My current favorite winery in Paso. Do not miss the reds, although I must say, I even enjoy their whites.

They had two very tasty Zins at good price points. Liked them better than Turley. I bought one of each and will compare them to my normal supply of Zinfandels from the Dry Creek region near Healdsburg. If they measure up, this might be my more local supply for Zins. Strongly recommend a visit to Thacher. Thanks to Paul F. for the recommendation to try them.

Thacher has a very special place in my heart! Absolutely love their wines and the grounds — it is a beautiful, calming place to be. The barn is amazing. Even the goats and chickens and pups that wander around are all just so happy and serene. We had our wedding there in April 2015 and Dani and Michelle were so helpful, accommodating, honest, and on-point both in the planning phase and on the day of. They really took care of us and our guests, and graciously put up with all of our last-minute changes and requests. We were able to use some of their equipment and furniture, saving us a lot on rentals. On the day of, Dani was always around checking on us and making sure everything was going well, helping out with all sorts of little things that popped up so that between her and our day-of-coordinator, we really had nothing at all to worry about and could relax and have a great time. Several of our guests commented on what a beautiful place it is, how incredible the barn is, how much they loved the wines, and what a great time they had. The grounds are kept in impeccable condition, and the bartenders they provided for our wedding(which included the cellar master) did a stellar job of keeping everyone happy, describing the delicious wines, and keeping glasses full with the beverages of their choosing. I only wish we’d had the time to properly introduce ourselves and talk with them about the wines! We will certainly be stopping in at Thacher every chance we get. Cannot recommend visiting this place enough!

The wines here are superb. Everything we tasted was so balanced and complex it compelled us to sign up for their wine club. I highly recommend this place as a must needed stop when visiting Paso. The estate Cuvée knocked my socks off.

Another great winery in Paso! Tasting was 5 wines for $ 10, waived with a $ 75 purchase. Tasting was 1 white and 4 reds. What stood out for me was the estate Zinfandel, the Controlled Chaos(a Zinfandel, Mourvèdre and Grenache blend) and a GSM blend. Ended up purchasing two bottles of the Zinfandel and one of the Controlled Chaos. Service was excellent. We sat outside and they brought the wine to us. No issues when we asked to revisit a couple of the wines. The young ladies pouring for us were knowledgable about the wines they were serving. Highly recommended, this place is on my list to revisit!

First of all, I have to mention that I love their label! That green grasshopper on the neutral label is perfection! The wines were decent, nothing special but definitely something you would feel good about opening up at a dinner party with friends. The stand out however was the Triumvirate Zinfandel which was absolutely amazing! In the time we where there three other couples bought bottles of the zin, one couple mentioned it was their favorite wine from the SLO region, another couple bought six bottles and the server mentioned that they thought they would be sold out within another few weeks. That sealed the deal for us! $ 10 tasting fee waived with $ 75 purchase seems a little steep in comparison with other vineyards in the area. Tasting room is small and cozy however this can become a problem if they get busy during your tasting and we had to continually move down the bar area as new people arrived, by the end of our tasting we were basically squeezed into a corner of the bar between the wall and another couple and my husband and I couldn’t both stand at the counter due to lack of room. Just get yourself to Thatcher before they run out of the Triumvirate!

Talk about personalized service and incredible wines. The tasting room was inviting and a delight to rub the bellies of the wine dogs. A treat to have a great conversation with the owner/wine maker and tasting room team and how they found their passion for wine and wine making. This is MUST stop if you don’t stop here you will truly have missed out on amazing wines and great company. For you brides looking for an amazing wedding venue you have to see the Thach Barn here. What a dream. Thank you Thacher team. We can’t wait for our wine club shipment this fall.

Thacher is by far my favorite winery in the Paso area and maybe anywhere. I actually learned about Thacher planning my wedding that was to be in the Paso Robles area. Having never even visited central California, I had no idea where to search but after some internet research and direction from my wedding planner, Thacher Winery was my ultimate selection. Michelle and Sherman are so incredibly nice and it feels like they are opening up their home to you. Along with all of their staff being incredible. Not only is the winery gorgeous, the wine is delicious. I am partial to red wine and their reds will not disappoint, especially the Zinfandels! Not the biggest fan of their whites but several of my guests were very happy so everyone has their own opinion. For those planning weddings, they will not book another wedding your weekend and they were so easy to work with regarding deliveries and any other needs. Loved the entire experience!

Just went here. again…this past weekend. Gorgeous location esp this time of year with all if the greenery. And then there is the pretty tasting room, the awe inspiring barn, and… duh! The wine!!! My favorite is the controlled chaos altho I was really into the blended white on this last visit. Btw: all of the people at this winery are super nice!!! Such a kick to be at a truly family owned and operated spot.

I am absolutely in love with Thacher’s late harvest Zinfandel 2010! Wow, there was a party going on in my mouth. I was so impressed with their selection, the ambience and the drive to the winery was lovely! Friends and I ended up buying a Zin and bringing it outside where we had a picnic… delightful! They have a quaint little picnic area and the whole experience was marvelous. I definitely want to go back soon… I’m dying to taste that Zin once more! My only complaint was that the tasting room was so small that when other people arrived we kept having to scoot down, again and again!(There’s no more room to scoot!) Also, the $ 10 tasting fee is a bit of a downer when so many other wineries do complimentary tastings.

Beautiful new building for tasting or area for picnicking but the wines to my palate were nothing spectacular. There are just too many other outstanding wineries to visit first. Controlled Chaos had the most depth… but not at the price they ask. The wines are from non-estate grapes. Their vineyard is just starting to produce… maybe worth visiting in a few more years. Wine pourer was cute but needs to learn more about wine, grapes, soils & vineyards if Thacher wants to compete. There are just too many other outstanding wineries to visit first.

Love this winery! Michelle and Sherman Thacher, as well as all of their employee’s, have a way of making you feel like you are in their home sharing a glass of wine. They don’t have a bad wine in their repertoire, and you have to try their port! My partner and I broke our rule of never joining a wine club until the third visit, we joined before we completed the tasting!

Thacher Winery was bittersweet. My wife and I went out with our Passport to Paso Robles and was going out for a complimentary tasting and the purchase discounts. It was one of the wineries that was the most furthest out from where we were staying. We were met with our wine guide telling us that they were no longer participating in the passport deal and offers(despite it being printed) and that if we wanted to taste it would be $ 20 per person. So, we shared a tasting and went through their wines. They had a Viognier that was very delicious. They had a nice Syrah and a GSM(Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) and a Zinfandel and a red blend. I liked all the wines, but was put off by the no passport deal after a long drive. so decided not to purchase and just payed the tasting fee. The wines where priced between $ 25-$ 40 per bottle. On a good note this winery is a member of the Rhone Rangers. Check it out

Amazing experience. We made an appointment on Monday and we were warmly greeted by Michelle, the wine maker’s wife. She was friendly, knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the landscape, cellars and their vintage barn. Right outside the tasting room, there were 2 horse buggies that were owned by the winemaker’s family… which was pretty cool to see. The barn was also pretty awesome. We were told they use it for events and«wine club» dinner parties. The wine tasting is best summed up on their website. There was a really nice addition to the tasting — Controlled Chaos. It’s a blend of several varietals inspired by the winemaker’s life, which Michelle described as a «controlled chaos». Lastly, before you leave make sure to grab a bottle of Ginger beer. Its a great way to clean the pallet. We took full advantage.
