This butcher shop is one of a kind! The best place to find German goods on Long Island by far. The friendliest staff and most authentic butcher experience you could ask for

Love this place! Great meats and great counter help that’s very knowledgeable on preparation and type of products for an outstanding meal or snack. The only German butcher in my area that never fails to impress.

I have been coming here since I was a kid. Growing up German in Long Island, this was one of the few places you can rely on to get all your German groceries. My grandmother would take me with her here at least once a week. They used to give out free a couple of those little smokey sausages to us kids. Always loved the meat selection. Love their bratwurst, bloodwurst, head cheese, and most of all their leberkase and smoked sausages. I know they have closed a bunch of their locations, but I hope they never close this one, or any more for that matter. I love this place!

I always forget to shop here and I don’t know why. They have roast pork(or fresh ham) that they make sandwiches with or you can buy like deli meat. They also usually have two excellent homemade soups. Of course it’s an excellent butcher store so you can get the best meats available in the county. I have to learn to remember to shop here. It’s so good.

When I tell friends and family, «I’m going to see Karl» they assume from the child like grin on my face that I am going to see a loved one. Who is «Karl» they ask themselves? His best friend? Maybe his Onkle Karl? Or perhaps the«best butcher on the block?» Wait. The best butcher on the block?! Karl Ehmer has been a New York institution since 1932 with a presence in Patchogue since 1965. While many other Karl Ehmer locations have closed their doors in recent years, Karl Ehmer’s of Patchogue is still here to satisfy our desire for European meats and treats. If you’ve never been to Karl Ehmer’s, don’t be thrown by the word butcher. Yes, Karl Ehmer’s is a world class butcher with amazing cuts of meat, cold cuts, and German specialties like Bratwurst, Bockwurst, Weisswurst and more, but that’s all! Here you’ll find imported European candy like Kinder and amazing marzipan, imported spreads including Düsseldorf mustard and apfel spread and many other hard to find imports. I could go on and on about this little slice of German heaven, but you’re better off checking it out yourself.

So far I love their cuts of beef and deli meats! Haven’t had the chance to try their entire selection but I am working on it. Steve is very friendly/helpful if you have any questions, too. I wish they had longer hours, since I can only stop by after work and they are closed on Sundays. Well worth the trip for some quality meats if you are not too far!

Dead south of the«Famous» Four Corners and Furman Square( ) on South Ocean lies Karl Ehmer Quality Meats of Patchogue, a old-school German deli, pork and gift shop(for people think meats and imported foodstuffs is the perfect gift): Christmastime isn’t Christmastime in the L. household, unless someone is having a Karl Ehmer Cervelat that was case-formed into the shape of a 2 lb. pig(hint*hint). High-end products and a great location, a true Patchogue institution. I recall as a wee youngster, the counterman passing me over a free sample link of a peanut frank.. . I have known to this day they will still do so too, if you show interest: Check it out, fine specialty stuff behind that glass, hot dogs and wursts.. . «still the best butcher on the block.»
