Auto Max

I had my first experience with Auto Max today. My a/​c suddenly started blowing weakly and making a whining sound yesterday. While others I called were quoting up to $ 160 to diagnose and letting me know it may not be repaired until Monday or Tuesday (since Saturdays are so busy), Chris at Automax asked me to come on down and let me know he’d personally check it out and only get a tech if needed. That was a quoted price of about $ 40. Turns out he didn’t need to get the tech involved. Upon hearing the sound, he pulled out my a/​c filter which was a travesty. I am embarrassed, but will include the photo. Whew! I avoided a high diagnostic fee and am currently waiting for my new filter to be installed. I think I have found my Pearland auto repair shop.
P. S. it is very clear that I do not know much about cars. Just look at my filter. So it is good to find people who won’t take advantage of the ignorant

Took three weeks to replace a front bumper; all kinds of excuses, always blame on others fault, never remember what they said; i made a mistake in the first place, i should not go there since they might only know how to do oil change

I came in for a state inspection 3 hours before the shop closed on a busy Saturday afternoon. They helped me right away, especially Chris. He explained the parts they wanted to replace and why it was important; I never felt like I was being taken advantage of and he helped me understand my car a little better. Everyone at the shop was friendly and helpful, I had a great experience with Auto Max!

Great Service! I was there for a State Inspection. They got me in and out in 30 minutes.

Max’s group started out rough; customer service was poor, repair prices were outrageous. But after a lot of working with them (they’re outside my office building, so it’s honestly just convenience why I go here so much), they’ve started turning over a new leaf. Their customer service is doing better, and they try to do whatever they can to help me. Not the best mechanic, but better than most.

I only use two mechanics to do service on my car and Auto Max in Pearland is one. They always are very honest and have impeccable customer service. I have a 2003 Toyota Camry with 274,000+ miles and Auto Max will help me insuring my car with another 200,000 miles.

So… Took my car in a month ago for electrical problems thinking they could help me. They kept the car over night, called me the next day saying they’ll have to keep it a few more hours and would call me. Not hearing anything back, I called them. They said basically they don’t know what’s wrong with the car that they’ll have to run more tests. 3 hrs later they said they’re searching for a $ 1000 part and will call me when they find it. Long story short, I never received a phone call; I ended up calling them again when they told me, «oh we’re still looking for it. We want to get you the best deal». I show up unexpectedly looking for my car wanting to get it back so I can take it elsewhere. They said «oh it was just a computer issue. We reprogrammed the computer module and the problem is no more». Charged me $ 200, and I went on my way thinking it really was fixed. I go to work a couple hours later and the problem happened again! I ended up taking it to the dealership where they gave me an accurate diagnosis (of course paying more money at this point!). The dealership said the other guys didn’t do anything and that I would have to have the entire module replaced. Auto Max, if you were unsure of what the issue was, you should have told me and I would have gladly taken my vehicle elsewhere and saved my money!

DO NOT GO HERE! You’ve been warned! I wouldn’t allow them to repair my car if it broke down in their parking lot! 1. Fat front desk attendant is rude! 2. They proceeded with repairs I didn’t authorize, then lied and said I did! 3. Charge extremely high prices ($ 900 for an alternator) 4. Found out through the dealership that it wasn’t the alternator anyway! It was a computer board. $ 900 gone for their incompetence. Again, you’ve been warned.

Almost thought I found a new place to get my car maintenance done (Auto Max) vs. Goodyear in Pearland… then I come outside and my car window is down while its sprinkling outside. Then I get in my car and notice my radio is on which it never is because I always have my aux cord plugged in for Pandora. So I go to plug my phone up and my aux cord is gone. Now rewind to when I first got there, I had came back into my car to reach into my glove box to grab my insurance for my inspection. So now that I see my cord is gone I go back in and said I think they dropped my cord because it’s no longer in my car. So they go get the inspection guy and he says «It wasn’t in there I don’t steal.» So I replied «I never said you did, all I’m saying is it’s no longer in there and maybe you dropped it.» So we go back to my car and look. Then he goes in the garage and there is a manager (an Indian guy) and front desk guy (a black guy) and there’s another black guy working on the car, I’m looking through the door and the Insoection guy YELLS «now yall two (manager and front desk guy) know me I don’t steal!!!» So I come out and repeated that I wasn’t saying he stole anything then he yells «she’s acussing me of stealing!!!» And I just repeated that I wasnt… so then the manager turns his back to the black guy working on a car and points to him and WHISPERS to me «was it him.» Smh!!! Then the white guy/​inspection guy who made a big deal and accused me of accusing him of stealing left the garage and went and found my cord where I had originally parked. So he did drop my cord like I said when he moved my car from the parking spot to the garage to do my inspection!!! But the manager wanted to blame the black guy for stealing when he didn’t come anywhere near my car!!! Smh. Guess I’ll stay at Goodyear. They take care of my stuff. Goodyear also doesn’t put words in the customers mouth not try to accuse an innocent black employee of stealing vs. the white guy who actually worked on my car. Need I remind you, I NEVER accused anyone of stealing!!!

AVOID THIS PLACE!!! CONSUMER RIP-​OFF! DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE; YOU’VE BEEN WARNED! Auto Max is a great name for this place. The prices here are inflated to the MAX! I was quoted a price much higher than the dealership. Then they fixed my car without approval and lied and said I’d given him the ok over the phone when all I’d told him to do was standby. He then told me that it was a nonreturnable part and since it was already installed on my car I had no choice. When I protested he had the nerve to say «I’m done talking to you». WHAT? Two other customers (different vehicles) were protesting the same type of injustice. I later found out that 1) The alternator that they replaced wasn’t even the problem! 2) The price I paid was more than the dealership and they don’t even use oem parts! Probably Auto Zone! They don’t even deserve the 1 mandatory star. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

So I have been twice now. The first time I got an oil change, they were nice and efficient and no problems. This second time however has been awful. First it took an hour and 40 min for an oil change and tire rotation, they quoted me less than an hour. Second they either didn’t replace the oil cap or didn’t tighten it down so when I drove off oil exploded around the engine area and then leaked all over our driveway. I took it back and they cleaned it up, replaced the cap and added more oil but this shouldn’t have happened. Will be looking for a new place…

This place is a rip off… I was having immediate car problems. I stopped here because it was the closet shop around me. Walked in Tony sitting behind the desk without a smile on his face just nonchalant. Told him my problem & before my car was even diagnosed he started telling me major issues. They diagnosed my car & told me i had multiple problem & it woud be $ 1200. I decided not to get my fixed there. I took it else where & come to find out it wasnt the problems he diagnosed. After all said and done my car only cost $ 400 to get fixed. Tony/​Automax is shady & i wouldnt trust them.

Super shocked to see this highly rated! We took my husbands car there for the inspection and were told it needs all new tires. I said okay to getting the tires when I was told a final price. I asked for all fees, disposal fees, taxes etc. to make my decision and was told one flat price. Shocker, when we went to pick it up the guy told me it was that price plus $ 140. I said no no I got quoted X prize and was told that with everything included! He then made me think I wasn’t going to get that price there was no way and that he has to «check with his boss», he was the person that told me the price initially. In the end I did get it for the price I was told but not after having to complain and haggle.
In addition my mother-​in-​law had the oil leaking from her Silverado. She took it to her Abilene car care place and they said whoever did the last oil change did not put a cap (?) On correctly and it was leaking. Well, last change she had was at this place when she’s visiting us! Beware.

Great service. Came for an inspection on my Harley and it was done in a timely manner. The inspector was friendly and professional and the men behind the desk were as well. I’ll be back with my business in the future.

Ladies, unless you know something about cars, don’t go here by yourself. Many auto shops will try to upsell, but this shop is condescending in the manner of which they do so. One of the mechanics gave me a spiel about gasoline and told me he wanted to replace six different components because today’s gasoline is only 85% octane… just be weary.

Fast, professional and courteous. The waiting area is clean and they are stable enough in their employment that I continue to recognize employees even after a year of coming here.
